That terrible stomach virus that has been hitting the nation has now taken hold of my poor little granddaughter. She ended up getting sick at school and having to go home. KC was not a happy little camper since there was supposed to be an evening school event and she would have to miss it.
My daughter, Tiffany has had to contend with a fussy daughter who was upchucking constantly and not wanting to drink Gatorade or Pedialyte. She could hardly hold in water.
"I have discovered the best trashcan for barfing children," said Tiffany.
Tif informed me that this trashcan that she bought at The Container Store was perfect. It has handles on the sides that a child can hold on to, a manageable size, plastic and can be cleaned easily.
You can see that Tiffany asked KC to pose for grandma's blog.
What a wonderful granddaughter to be willing to help grandma come up with a blog post even when she is not feeling well at all.
I'm hoping that the next post I do about my precious little girl will be a happier one.
POSTSCRIPT 1: Sigh.... I wrote this post a couple of days ago. Very worrisome... Although my granddaughter is up and feeling much better, Tiffany has now caught it and seems to have it even worse if that's possible.
POSTSCRIPT 2: Incredibly, not only did KC and now Tiffany catch this terrible stomach virus in the Midwest, my granddog, Mungo ended up at the vet with the same thing in Washington D.C. My son was worried they would lose Mungo who was also bleeding. Thank goodness Mungo is also doing well now. I'll be calling Tiffany to see if she's doing better today.

I got the same wastebasket at Bed Bath & Beyond, which I use for the garden. It's got a lot of uses, I guess. I'm so sorry to hear of the sickness going through the family.
ReplyDeleteOi, not easy when both are sick. So sorry, Hope it will be over soon.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's just a posed photo.
Leave it to Gramma Kay to ask for a photo of the kid throwing up. :) I love your real-life blog, Kay. Good onya.
Sorry to hear they are ill.
ReplyDeleteHere's a tip: put a carrier bag (do you call them that in the States? The plastic bags with handles you get in supermarkets) in the bin and line it with tissue paper/kitchen roll/toilet roll. It stops splashback, is easy to dispose of, and makes the bin easier to clean.
Hope they feel better soon.
Oh thank you! I'll be sure to tell Tiffany about the bag idea. That would surely make it much easier!
DeleteOh dear, what a bummer. There was a doc reporting on TV that it is more contagious than any other virus, so it sounds like a horridly powerful virus. Hope Tif can try to keep some fluids down. Yep, a wastebasket liner seems like plan, even with the spiffy barf bucket. Sounds like separate everything would be a good idea for this virus. Praying for a quick recovery. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteI can still hardly believe our granddog caught a stomach virus too. Jon and Sarah said they'd never seen him so sick.
DeleteAww I am so sorry about the bug attacking your family. It is just not fair for kids to be sick. I hear it is really and easily spread bug. Hope both recover soon and it spreads no further. Guess it wouldn't hurt to line up something that can be used for that purpose now since you don't have time to hunt for one when it hits.
ReplyDeleteoh no!I hope they are both well soon, That bucket is a good idea,
ReplyDeletemy friend caryn has been sick...it's scary!
ReplyDeletelove that container! But so sorry to hear about these illnesses...hope they recover quickly.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that kind before, makes sense.
ReplyDeletePoor little thing!Does your daughter know the tip about ice chips? I remember sitting on the couch feeding chips one by one to my then little daughter when she had a terrible stomach flu. They were all she could keep down. She was the sickest then she has ever been
ReplyDeleteI read about the ice chips and did tell Tif about it. Tif says now she can drink all the Gatorade that KC refused to drink.
DeleteI have heard that this is a terrible thing to have. Hope they are better soon.
ReplyDeleteI would line a plastic bag inside it though, as I see others here have suggested.
Thanks, Kay, I love your pratical, caring advice!
Well the title of this post certainly grabbed my attention LOL! Hope everyone is better soon.
ReplyDeleteOh my!!!!! Ours are on the way here. I'll let you know which virus they bring this time. I should be sick in 3 days. Isabelle, (2) barfed last week. We're doomed! But I love their visits!! I like the barf bucket idea.
ReplyDeleteCheers from Cottage Country!
Best wishes to all concerned, even to Jon's poor dog. It's not fun being sick. As for David and me, we prefer to barf in the toilet. Easier to flush away.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear your loved ones are sick. But thanks to all for sharing with us the best barf bucket tip. Last night my daughter said their family caught a respiratory cold. I was sick a couple weeks ago with only a bad nasal congestion, no coughs. Last week we were out to a buffet luncheon at Todai and the serving thongs were probably packed full of germs...I tried to caution my grandson not to handle the thongs but he sneaked trying to serve himself and touched his food too many times with his fingers. I hope he's not sick.
ReplyDeleteL...w
I think I'm going to avoid buffets for a while. I'm getting nervous. Just when I thought my granddaughter was better she started vomiting again. Did the virus boomerang back to her from Tif? I don't know.
DeleteThat awful bug has gone through both my daughter's families....no fun! I hope all your family feels better soon. That trash can does look like a handy thing to have for this type of illness, especially for kids.
ReplyDeleteMy family always gives Ginger Ale and Saltine crackers at a time like this to settle the stomach. It works plus children will accept it and not resist.
ReplyDeleteWhy wouldn't this stomach epidemic actually be the flu which we've been hearing about lately? I always get my flu shot.
Both my daughter and granddaughter had their flu shots. I guess they do call it a stomach flu, but is it really? I have no idea.
DeleteOh, this is just awful. I am so sorry this bug hit so hard. Hope you all are ok in the islands. It's hit really hard here too.
ReplyDeleteI think the islands are also being hit, but not quite so hard as on the mainland... yet.
DeleteCome on spring....... Get here and wash away all of these germs!
ReplyDeleteThe wastebasket tip is up to your usual, useful standard, even it the purpose is yucky! I always fear when my grandkids get sick too, and especially my daughter, who has a very hard time bouncing back. So far, so good here. I hope your loved ones are all recovering
ReplyDeleteOh jeepers, the dog too!?! The TV doc news said that it is a stomach virus, not a stomach flu, and that it's not the respiratory flu that we all got shots to prevent. I hope I don't get it. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteThis is really a nasty stomach virus. Tif says she's never been this sick before and to add to the misery KC has started vomiting again!
DeleteOh gosh, Kay, this is not an easy time for all your kids. I hope and pray for improvement soon.
