Helpful Ideas

I now have another friend who is sending me some helpful hints.  Her name is Myrtle and I'm rather liking these ideas so I thought I'd pass them on to you.

I'll have to check this out next time we travel.  I usually just bring a multiple plug attachment when we travel.

I really like this idea and will try it out soon.  I have often found uneven heating in the microwave.

Art isn't sure he likes this idea because he's worried about leaks.  It  might be better if you put the holes up a little higher, just in case?

We haven't had left over pizza in a long, long time, but I'll try this the next time we get one.

This is good to remember when you're driving.

Art tends to over-pop his popcorn so that he doesn't get as many unpopped popcorn.  However, then you're in the danger of getting that burnt flavor.

I like this idea.  Blue ice can be expensive.

I decided to post this for Art although he hasn't had many problems with this.  He's usually carrying a travel book or flyer to show people at train stations.

And that's it for now until the next time Jean or Myrtle sends me helpful ideas.

  1. Good tips from Myrtle. The sponge one is so simple yet we don't have to go out and buy a thing for it. I won't be using the pop corn one because I'm one of those odd balls who loves burned pop corn. I burn it on purpose, but in a pan. ha

  5. These are some very handy things to know. The circle in the middle of food in the microwave is one I have used and it really works.

  6. How funny that I never realized that freeway exits were coded left and right that way. Not that I do much freeway driving any more!
The tip on taking pix of destinations is a very good one1

  7. Great ideas. I didn't know about the freeway signs. Trashcans. Custodians poke a small hole near the top of the bag. It does the same job as a hole in the can. Taking pix with your phone is a great idea if your phone takes pix. The folks putting together the latest inauguration are telling visitors to download an app that will show them the nearest entrance for their color coded ticket. What about those of us that cannot download apps. Ah well.

  8. Great suggestions here. I never realized the exit could be determined by the end of the sign its warning is aligned on!

  10. I heated up some leftover Brussels sprouts the other day and they were very uneven. I hadn't realized uneven heating is a universal problem. As usual, I just blamed my own slipshod ways. I'll remember the hole-in-the-middle tip for next time. On the other hand, some peolple might just say forget the Brussels sprouts. But not me. I'm a fan. I grew the tiny cabbages in Ohio and they could be harvested well into the Winter. Yum. Frost only made them more delicious. However, I admit I never could get my family to be 100% committed. Children and Brussels sprouts just don't seem to go together.

  12. Thanks for sharing Kay! I've used, and told my grad student son (who likes his Christmas wrap just perfect for storage,) about the toilet paper core roll, cut lengthwise to keep wrapping paper rolled up. Works dandy, even with a paper towel roll core, cut in half and lengthwise for wrap. Never knew about the sign placements, but I've panicked wondering which side of the highway an exit was located.
