My friend, Jean just sent me another idea that I tried out with my iPhone.
And it worked! If you put your iPhone into a glass bowl, it amplifies the speaker sound. Sometimes, our kids will call and we both want to hear what they're saying. I tried it with just music and it did amplify the sound. I wonder if it will work with all smart phones. I guess it depends on where the speaker is.
Our daughter just called and we tried it out with her. Wow! It got almost too loud. Art had to tone the volume down a bit.
Another idea that I don't have a photo for is to use a folded sticky note under the spot where you're drilling. It catches the debris nicely. Next time I drill a hole, I'll know what to do.
Uh oh.. That just sent a shiver down Art's back.

We will be trying the phone in a bowl. Neither of us can hear our callers and this might make just the difference we need. Thanks for the tip! No drilling done by me. Too dangerous for me and/or innocent bystanders:)
ReplyDeleteOur land line phone has a speaker phone feature that allows people in a room to hear the conversation. Am surprised the iPhone doesn't have that feature.
ReplyDeleteThe iPhone does have that feature, but I've not tried to use it yet. I sure do like my iPhone in all the ways it has been used so far, though! If I cannot hear the speaker phone feature, I'll try this! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea. I'll try it out with Christopher's smartphone.
ReplyDeleteThey also sell the classic phone adapter. Does the trick.
ReplyDeletegreat idea except for the drilling...lol!
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea!! I'll have to try that! And I do want to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas, Kay!! Enjoy!!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips Kay, I'll remember those, thank you.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine Art imagining you with a drill. LOL
ReplyDeleteBut the sticky note idea is excellent, and I'll try to remember it. (I do more drilling than Dick does. He never owned an electric drill until after he met me, but my drill was already old and well-used.)
The bowl for the phone sounds like a good idea. I'll tell Dick about it, in case we ever both want to be in on the same conversation.
Luv, K
blessings..s..
ReplyDeleteYou learn something new everyday, thanks for the lesson.
thanks for the neat tips Kay, will have to pass the iphone tip to my son.
ReplyDelete2 VERY Clever ideas! Love it!

Kay - the phone in the bowl is like cupping your hand behind your ear. Just don't put cereal and milk in the bowl at the same time. Without drilling the phone, I'm having trouble picturing the folded sticky tape on the exit side of a drilling task? I'd heard of putting clear scotch tape on a wall where you plan to put a nail, as that keeps the plaster from breaking up.
ReplyDeleteI've been using your previous hint for toilet paper roll cores, cut once lengthwise, to keep wrapping paper from unwinding. Paper towel roll cores, or the cores from used up wrapping paper works too!

I wanted to post a photo to demonstrate the drilling and sticky note thing, but I was too lazy to get out the drill from the tool shed. Sigh... next time. The folded sticky note is put under the spot where you're drilling so that it can catch all the debris from your drill.
DeleteI really like the toilet paper roll for wrapping paper too. It's amazing to me that the toilet roll keeps the tension. I'll have to keep the paper towel roll cores too. Thanks for the hint.
