Hot in Bed

Yes he is!   But not just in the way you're thinking.  Art is hot when he sleeps.  It's the strangest thing.

He's always complained that the mattresses don't breathe enough and he gets hot at night.  Even in Illinois he often kicked off his blankets which was fine, because it left more for me.

I was cold the other night so I snuggled near him and put my freezing feet on his leg.  I got warm in a jiffy.... no... no...no... not in that way.  I was just too warm near him so I had to scoot back to my side to fall asleep.

Art was looking online today to see what his problem might be.  He found a number of people complaining of the same thing.  Some people even got up and checked their temperature and blood pressure.

I'm wondering if that's why he's so thin.  He must always be burning a lot of calories... even when he's sleeping.  On the other hand, why do I sweat more than he does?  He says it's because I'm not in the same condition that he is.  Well, that's for sure.

I don't know what the answer is.  Whatever the case, he's the one to be near during a snowstorm.  However, with the amount of energy and heat he's putting out, he's going to peter out fast and be glad I've got more reserve fat on me.

Do any of you get hot at night?

I meant temperature-wise.

  2. Cute, Kay!
OK, it appears he's under a feather-filled comforter, (since you DID send us a photo of your husband in bed...) Have him ask his doc. I doubt it since he's in such good shape, but even slender people can have diabetes. One symptom is being warm or sweating at night. But now, I'm off track, because he says you're the one sweating sometimes at night.

I know some people have said that the specialty mattresses, the tempurpedic or sleep number, make one sleep too hot. It may be that he doesn't really need any covers. Maybe he can sleep on the roof and direct his thermal energy to the solar panels...

I have my warm waterbed mattress with a comforter, which is really nice when it's 9 degrees outside.

    1. This was our first day back in Illinois in October and the heating vent wasn't on. The comforter was actually quite light and thin.

    1. Oh and also we are exactly the opposite. I am the hot one and he is the cold one. Plus neither one of us is skinny.

  4. I flipflop from hot to cold....ha
My hubby stays cold all the time, then we go to bed and he only wants a sheet to cover with...says he gets hot!!! strange......

  5. My guy is warmer than I am at night, but sometimes I wake and I'm very hot. I usually kick the covers off then, too, but within a few minutes I'm back under and fall asleep again. I suspect Art has a very high metabolism.

  8. Sleeping next to my 10 yr. old granddaughter is like sleeping with a hot brick.....and she is also very thin. Hmm? You may be onto something.

    1. Somebody said they thought it was hereditary. I'll have to ask Art's sister how she sleeps.

  9. Well, I'm warm and my skinny husband is always cold...any more theories-lol!

  10. It could be due to Art's body hair. Does he have a lot of it?

  11. My husband is cold and sleeps with his side of the electric blanket turned way up. My side is low because I get too hot. But I am not skinny. I do still have hot flashes, but mostly I'm either too cold or too hot. Just right is elusive.

  12. Let's be brazen. If Art cooled off by, yes, "in that way," vs. your "no, not that way," maybe he'd be cooled off enough to sleep..., or both of you to sleep? Just trying to help. DrumMajor

  16. Is that a duvet on the bed? That would be too hot for me to sleep under in Hawaii.

    1. Yes, it is. However, it's a very light feather comforter. The photo was taken in Illinois during a cold snap on our first night back in October.

  17. lol Kay, I have no idea if I get hot at night, but I know these days I'm pretty cold jumping into bed as it's winter! Art must have a high metabolism you're right.

  18. I wake up several times at night because I'm too warm. I stick my feet and arms out from under the duvet until I cool down and then I can get back to sleep. Mind you, Christopher seems to be much warmer than I am, yet it never wakes him. We use summer weight duvets all year round because we find winter weight duvets too warm.

  19. I often throw the bed clothes off but then I get cold and have to snuggle down. Gregg is the same way.

  20. Sweating is good according to my Kaiser physician. He said it means your body can cool properly. I also wondered since I tend to sweat profusely. Thought my doctor was going to say the reason was not being in condition. Maybe because Art is thin he needs to conserve heat. That's my guess.

    1. I didn't used to sweat much when I was a kid. I remember my aunt saying it was odd that I was so skinny I couldn't sweat. I remember being insulted by that. Well, I've proved her wrong. I can sweat with the best of them now. :-) Fortunately for Art, he can sleep anywhere, under almost any condition. Not me though.

He is such a good sport about your blogging, Kay. :)
When I first get in bed my feet are freezing, so I pre-warm the bed with a hot water bottle and then keep it on my feet for a while. So nice.

  22. So cute! I've been hot, and cold, since Sept;. 2005 when menopause hit me. My Mom was getting cancer, and I was stressed at work. I empathise!
