A Body in Motion

...is unfortunately not my body.

This is not a good thing.  Zumba is on a 2 week hiatus and the clouds on our mountains keep threatening rain so we can't go for our evening walks.

I'm also eating a lot of cookies and little cakes and brownies and amazingly delicious Crispix mixes and mochi and manju... oh... you name it.

The 8 mile Aloha Run/Walk is on February 18th.  I need to get into condition again.

Art says this is why he likes to sign me up to do the Walk.  It forces me to think about getting into or staying in shape.  Our son, Jon is like his father and makes sure he gets his exercise through every kind of sport.  Our daughter has been trying to work out now and running like her father and brother.  Even my 6 year old granddaughter is proud to show her race medals to us.

I wish I could stop being lazy.  I have to really push myself to exercise.  It's not something I take pleasure in like the rest of my family.  Good gracious!  Even mom is on her treadmill everyday.

Ah well... I'd better get in shape because the new year is around the corner and as tradition (and mom) dictates, we have to clean the house and get everything organized before 2013.

I guess I'd better count my blessings that I have such a motivated family that insists I get into motion.

OK... fine...

tomorrow.

  1. I have been thinking along these lines myself. We have been getting a lot of exercise over the holiday, doing a lot of walking. No marathons yet though ;)

  2. It is easy to be lax during the holidays and today I return to my cardiac rehab. Oh it's going to hurt!

  3. I went for a walk yesterday since everything was closed. I am so glad to have my regular exercise class back today! You are either fortunate (if you think like me) or exasperated by having a family that insists that you stay in shape! :-)

    1. I know I'm fortunate, DJan. If it weren't for everybody on my case, I'd be 20 pounds heavier. I would also already have diabetes instead of keeping it at bay so far.

  4. don't worry Kay , you will be OK, you have a great team behind you, pushing all the way!!!, lol, It is hard to resist all the goodies and goodness knows we don't need them, I wish I had Art's dedication!

    1. You should see him dabbing all the grease off a pizza or cutting fat off bacon. He watches what he eats VERY carefully.

    1. I definitely don't exercise when I'm not feeling well.

  6. Oh, I know how you feel, I find exercise really boring. Thank goodness for the dog now, as I take her out for a forty minute walk each morning, and it's very hilly around here and the fields are extremely muddy at the moment, so I certainly get breathless. But I'm afraid that's the sum of my exercise routine.

  7. I'm not sure how I would react to someone else telling me that I need to get moving, but I was definitely telling myself that this morning. Since it is a little cold (7 degrees) for my long walk this morning I'm hoping I get motivated to go to the rec center or at least downstairs to the treadmill.....or like you, maybe tomorrow.:)

  8. Best wishes for a Happy New Year Kay! I think you have to figure out what kind of exercise you really enjoy...it sounds like evening walks and Zumba (or any form of fun group exercise), all good!

  9. Well, good luck to you, Kay. David considered joining the Aloha Run, but his orthopedist told him not to walk too much. He advised low impact exercise like swimming. So David swims every day at the gym and also when he travels if the hotel has a pool.

  10. Your little poster says not to work on Jan. 1. It's okay to be a bum on that day without any guilt! Yes, as Scarlett said, "Tomorrow ..." DrumMajor

    1. However, you're supposed to work your buns off before that day. Art cleaned some window screens today, but I was too busy making preparations for our holiday dinner tomorrow night with my brother's family.

  11. The weather has been too cold & wet, I've been too busy, and I've had a cough for three weeks. Those are my reasons not to walk. However, we have seen our grandchildren for the last three weeks and they have kept us very active. I'm hoping it balances out, what with all the good food, too.

  12. Kay, you have a very broad definition of lazy if you think it includes you. I've seen you in action, and you're a high-energy lady! But I guess if you're planning on doing the marathon again, a little bit of a reminder from Art now and then can't hurt.
I love the January 1 idea, but it sure wouldn't work around our house, LOL.
Wishing you and your whole family the best for the remainder of 2012 and for the new year.

    1. Oh.... nooooo... I'm in no way looking at a Marathon except on TV. I'm trying to get somewhat in shape for the 8 mile Aloha Run/Walk in February. I'm always worried I won't be able to finish. Art runs it and has to wait a long time for me to show up at the Aloha Stadium. He's thinking hard about doing the Marathon next year. I don't like it. I think it's too stressful for a body to run 26+ miles.

  14. I'm with Mage on this one, especially as our week is filled with awful weather although we had a brief respite yesterday and walked our stir crazy dogs. Dianne

  16. Family activities kept me from a morning walk. Rain kept me indoors this afternoon, and I couldn't face the stationary bike. I'll start tomorrow. The pounds have been creeping back on with all of the holiday eating, and it's not over yet
