12-12-12 Christmas Lights

There's not really a whole lot of lights on our street.  Perhaps this is because of the high cost of electricity in Hawaii.  I shudder to think what the December electric bills are for some of our wonderful light enthusiasts.

Art and I took mom to see the efforts of some of the people in our neighborhood.

We began to notice that the brightly decorated houses seemed to appear in clusters on some streets.

One neighbor must have started a beautiful light display and then encouraged their friends to decorate their houses as well.

Think how long it must have taken to string up these babies.

This home allowed the Star Advertiser to list their address for people to view.  I hope nobody minded my standing out in the dark taking photos with my camera on a tripod.

For sheer quantity of lights and size of electric bill, we think this house wins!

It was fun to see everybody's hard work and then we went back to our dark street.  I hope all those lighted houses had solar panels.

  1. We enjoy looking at other peoples' lights and we enjoy looking at our own electric bill:)

  3. They are truly beautiful. I admire the ones I see around here, too, but I've got no desire to emulate them! :-)

  5. Several of our neighbors have strung up lights outside their houses, but ours remains dark. We are too lazy to bother and, besides, we don't want a humongous electric bill! Pretty pics, Kay!

I dreamed I was in Hawaii last night. I remember thinking in my dream that I needed to call you.

  8. A tripod! No wonder your night shots are so clear.
Who has time to put up all those lights . . .
I was just watching a video about how to change the fact that 1.3 billion people have no electricity:

  11. Kay, I'm with you I love seeing how creative people have gotten with their lights. Almost all the neighbors in our new neighborhood have decorated in some form or another. We have yet to drive through the other neighborhoods close by but I see they have tons of decorations up and lights!

  12. Our next door neighbors put out an extravagant display but light it only when they have friends and family over. We will put up a tree and some lights and have a potluck party and that's about it. I did see a street that had rather nice displays and might go over and take some pix.

  14. Wow! This is how most of the streets look at Diwali in India. Lovely captures Kay. I think using tripod helps in taking better quality pictures. And lol at the first comment.

  16. They look beautiful Kay and such great photos. I am hopeless at photographing lights at night. Did anyone come out and say hello when they saw you with your camera? There is so much effort that goes into decorating houses I bet they are pleased that others are also getting some enjoyment out of it. Electricity is high here too which must put a lot of people off decorating their homes. Other than a wreath on the front door we do not put lights outside. I did it maybe two years in a row and it was all too much trouble... and I gave up.

    1. Nope. Nobody came out, but we saw a few people looking out their windows.
