We had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner although we missed our nephew's wife as well as my sister-in-law who had to work.
Art had gotten up early to make his once a year pumpkin pie. I made a flan.
My brother, Dennis is a fabulous cook so I put him in charge of making the gravy. I'm horrible at gravy. He went out into the garden and collected some sage, rosemary and thyme and showed his sons how to make great gravy.
Dennis also brought a wonderful green bean casserole, mashed Okinawan sweet potato and Irish potato. I loved seeing the guys take over the kitchen.
Here it is! Giant green salad, bread stuffing, mochi rice with bacon, lup chong, etc. stuffing, kinpira gobo, green bean casserole, mashed purple Okinawan potatoes, mashed Irish potatoes, brined turkey with gravy.
Dennis was really surprised at how moist and tasty the turkey was. I'm a real fan of brining.
Mom enjoyed all the food as well as having the family together.
Everything was really tasty!
The best part of it all was the guys did the clean up! Woo hoo!
I'll be off to Black Friday...after zumba, that is. I need to work off the calories!

Scenes of the ideal American family at the unique American holiday of Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteSigh.... I just wish Tif, Jon and their families could have been with us, not to mention Barry and Dennis' wives.
Deletewhat a wonderful meal! I like that the men did the washing up after, I'm suggesting that in a few weeks at our Christmas dinner,
ReplyDeleteYour mom is so beautiful! And so are you, Kay. I love Dennis' herbs, but where is the parsley (to go with the sage, rosemary and thyme)? :-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny. Actually, there was parsley, just not from my herb garden that Dennis planted. I bought it at the store.
DeleteWith those purple potatoes, it makes for a very colorful plate! It looks like you had a wonderful day with the guys. My guy is wonderful help too. and like you, we had a whole lot more food that six people could eat. I sent left overs home with Jake and the cousins, and I will not have to cook for several days.
ReplyDeleteHave fun shopping. I will not be doing that today.
What (another) beautiful picture of your mom. It looks like you had a great day and a great meal. With 17 people here I didn't take one picture.
ReplyDeleteI, too, always love the pictures of your Mom! Looks and sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving, Kay!! Hope you have a great weekend as well!!
ReplyDeletewhat a feast! I could have used some help washing all my pots and pans and large platters.
ReplyDeleteI did so love it that we had nothing much to clean up after they left!
DeleteKay, please submit your family for extensive research: you ALL keep looking younger with subsequent photos! In the redneck Midwest, if guys took over the cooking, the turkey would be deep fried with beer on the side. Happy leftovers! Aloha, Linda B.
ReplyDeleteWonderful food and party! Thanks for sharing! Let us know how the Black Friday sales go.
ReplyDeletehow fun, my son was the main cook and we had a brined turkey delicious and moist! Good times with family...
ReplyDeleteYou answered my first question before I could ask it. That was "Did they clean up?" Good for the guys!
ReplyDeleteBlack Friday sale yesterday was a disaster for me....never again. I went specifically to Target for the iphone, but could you believe after two hours waiting in line and fighting the crowded isles in the electronics department....I was told that the Black Friday ad was a mistake and the store never intended to carry the Virgin Mobile iphones. I won't go into the disaster that was Walmart...grrr I knew it was a mistake to venture out last night but now I know better.

What? That's just so disgusting! I hope they offered you some kind of discount, anything... because that's bait and switch, isn't it? Shame on Target!!!
DeleteI'll be posting about our Black Friday. What a day! Did you have the torrential thunderstorms your way with lightning and everything? That was sure unusual and now it's too muggy. Sheesh!
Nope...no rain at all. I am still fuming...the line went all the way to Genki Sushi at Kapolei Commons. The store passed out candy bars and store maps but didn't bother to announce any ad discrepancies. The electronics guy said someone made a mistake with the ad...something about we are not Target mobile...but I bought my Triumph from Target last year. While having this conversation a lady stuck in the aisle with her cart which literally couldn't move farther than a few inches overheard us and told me to go to Apple store or nonlinear and they will have to honor the Target price..that's their policy. Walmart misinformation was downright callous and more irritating.
