Getting Ready for our trip to Illinois
OK, we're about ready to leave for Illinois. We've had these Delsey suitcases for a few years and they've traveled very well.
However, there's only one thing really wrong with it and it's annoying!
The zipper tabs are just crumbling off! One by one they snap off. Perhaps we should replace the luggage, but the rest of the suitcase is doing quite well. In fact they're doing better than the expensive luggage that someone (who shall remain nameless) bought. The sides of their suitcase started fraying.
So here's my solution!
I used heavy duty paper clips and wrapped it with colored duct tape. It may not look great, but it's doing the job as the tabs fall off one by one.
I'm pacing the house right now wondering what I'm forgetting. Art says he's noticed I'm a bit cranky.
Really? Me? No.....
OK, it's true. I'm tense.
I know it's silly because my daughter keeps our seasonal clothes in the attic. We don't really have to bring any clothes at all. But will the airplane be too cold? We were on another United flight and it was freezing. Then again, our son-in-law just upgraded our flight to first class so they'll probably give us blankets.
And yet I'm tense. And now my luggage is falling apart.
Maybe I should bring more paper clips....

oh my gosh so clever, you give us the best tips, hope you calmed down enough to enjoy the flight!
ReplyDeleteFirst class? You were in comfort, then. I've never flown that way, usually in back with the other livestock. :-)
ReplyDeleteFirst class on United, the only way to go. What a great airline it still is. Dianne
ReplyDeleteglad you survived your pre trip jitters and are home safely!
ReplyDeleteThe worst part of any trip for me is the packing. I hope your pre-trip jitters dissolved once your packing (and suitcase repair) were done.
ReplyDeleteUsing paper clips is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteWhat a clever idea, and it must have made it easier to spot your luggage on the carousel. We've just got back from flying to Glasgow and back and just took hand luggage, which was a new experience for us.
ReplyDeleteBLESSINGS.....
ReplyDeletelol, lol, lol, lol, whatever works, who am i to judge?
You and Art do a lot of traveling.
Hope your trip is delightfully wonderful and wonder filled.
First class huh, wow not to bad.
have a great one.

what a great idea, I have never seen orange duct tape, I like that!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the paper clip and duct tape idea!! But so far none of the zipper tabs on my Delsey are falling off (yet). My only problem is the slight fraying around the zippers. This happened after my first use and I was quite disappointed. It also stains easily but wiping it with SHOUT removes most of it. Otherwise it is a very lightweight luggage that holds so much right up to the weight limit. We bring a travel scale along just to be sure.

Love the duct tape! L.L. Bean coats have wonderful zipper pulls, but another brand I purchased didn't even come with decent pulls, so I used the large paper clips too, but I like the duct tape wrap. You just need a tiny bit of sake before traveling in the future. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Where did you happen to find orange duct tape?
ReplyDeleteI think I bought it from the mainland a long time ago at a craft shop. I have seen all kinds of beautiful duct tape at Home Depot. The selection is amazing these days.
DeleteUpgraded to first class!!?? Luggage tabs should be of little concern then, even though your fix was clever.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly understand you, Kay; I abhor packing. That's probably why I haven't gone anywhere out of the country since 2007. So much easier to stay home.
ReplyDeleteNice paper clip hack. You could also fasten them together to prevent the zipper from opening en route. I do that or use twist ties on my ancient backpack.
I saw the tsunami on the news. I hope it didn't affect you.
