Blog Lesson: How to Make Comments

About a month ago, I changed my comment format.  I thought it would make it easier to use the embedded form so that I could reply to questions directly underneath your comment.  Then if anybody else wanted to also add their idea to a train of thought, they could.  It felt more like a conversation for me.

I have some friends and relatives who still haven't commented, but read my blog.  I love it that they do (of course), buuuuut... I sure wish they'd leave a comment just to let me know what they're thinking.

And just in case they don't know how to comment on this new format, I thought I'd do another tutorial.

When you get to the bottom of the post, click on the word comments.

That will open up the comment box.

If you don't have a blog or Google account, you can just click on Anonymous.

Write your comment in the comment box and remember to write your name so I know who you are.

Are you seeing how easy it is?

Now all you have to do is click on the Publish button.

If you want to preview what you wrote you can click on that button, but that's not necessary.

OK, you guys...

I'm waiting.

  4. I may have to link to this nice tutorial of yours. Except for yours, all my comments come from readers I know only through blogging. I know some RLFs back in the Old Country also read the blog, but they have never left even one comment.

  5. Good suggestion. I tried it and I like the effect. Thanks.

  6. I am dazzled by your use of everything technical. I do little to my blog for fear of dropping it into a void.

  7. I changed my comments from embedded to full page, since some of my Wordpress friends were unable to comment. Blogger might have fixed that by now. You are one of my favorite bloggers so I comment as often as I can! :-)

  9. I like the new comment form. I have a question though. If you reply under my comment, do I get an email telling me this? Or do I have to come back to see your comment? I usually don't go back to a blog twice, so that would be too bad if I missed your reply. Of course, to read the answer to this question I will be back. haha

    1. It would be the same thing as the other form. If you asked to see a reply, you should still get an e-mail notifying you of this. Could you let me know if it's true?

  10. When you changed your form, it became difficult for me to use. I am on WP so it should be almost automatic, but i have to type my blog address everytime. It pops up automatically on Mage's site. Boohoo. Dianne

    1. Did it work better under Anonymous? I have the same problem when I write comments to Wordpress users. It won't let me comment except under the Wordpress back-up account.

I stopped using the embedded form a long time ago because there were problems with it, but they seemed to have fixed it. That's why I switched back. Doggone it, I know some people did have problems using it. I hope it resolves itself. I wonder what would happen to all my comments and others if I switched back.

  12. I wondered the same thing as Betty above since I don't usually go back to a post twice.....I would not know that there was a reply to my comment.
I hope you get some comments from those you are hoping to hear from.

    1. I only go back to comments I made on other people's blogs perhaps 50% of the time so I'm sure I've missed some, too.

  13. I have the same reply feature, it's a good thing!

  14. As much as I try to not read blogs, they are so addictive. For a thinker (me), it is heaven...bloggers generate so much to think about lol

  15. I came back to see if you'd replied and you did, but I didn't get an email. There is also no where to "check" that I would follow up comments emailed to me.
That's something I've been wondering about. Some people have that, and others don't....

  17. I'm like you, I love comments. My biggest problem is getting to all my favorites every day. I've got about one fifty here and on OD that I always read....many are personal friends, and I like to leave notes on their blogs. Sometimes I make it. Sometimes, oh guilt, I read two or three and have to remember all three when I leave a note. More guilt if I forget something. :)

    1. I feel guilty when I can't comment for a while too. Right now I'm back doing my photo scanning so it's taking a WHOLE lot of my time. Everybody is very forgiving though.

    1. Actually, often it's just me replying to cyber friends so the numbers are a little deceiving.

  21. You get so many comments! I don't quite get it. The analytics show that I get quite a few visitors (around 50 a day) but very few comments. It does make me wonder. There are some blogs i read that have such inane topics and posts yet the comments pour in by the hundreds. I guess I just see the world differently than most people.

    1. Like I told Kay D. the numbers are deceiving because there are days like today when I am replying to quite a few people. It raises the numbers. I also have a wonderful group of cyber friends here that visit each other quite often. My back-up Wordpress blog gets very, very, very few comments. I get some likes every so often, but Blogger with all its problems is my home.

  22. Hi Kay! Well that is a great tutorial, many of my non-blogger friends do tell me that they want to comment but don't know how to post one. This sure is a good help.
With my kids and work I get little free time left with me for other activities but I want you to know that you are always on my mind.Regards.

  23. I don't even know how you did this post, but I do know how to comment!
I have lots of readers who never comment as well. Most of them are relatives or friends. I know because when I see them and start to share something, they say "I know. I saw it on your blog." :/

    1. I did a Print Screen, pasted it onto Publisher, added the arrows and then added the notes on PhotoShop.

I have friends who tell me the same thing. LOL

    1. Both operations were supposed to have been successful, but one eye still tears up and overflows. The doctor can't understand why it doesn't drain like it should. The latest one which had the infection is working very well now and drains beautifully. She still has the plastic plugs in, but will have them removed in another month.

Thank you so much for your comment, Pat!!! It's such a pleasure meeting you.

Thank you so much for your comment, Ranita. Comments are a Blogger's lifeblood.

  27. Your tutorial is a great idea. I love comments too but also find that many people read, try my recipes and still never comment! I can see that stats so I know a lot of people come by but only a few comments are ever left. Friends tell me or others how much they love my blog but I never leave a comment.I do wonder why. Anyway, love your blog and happy to comment!!
