Fun With Son Jon

Ever since I first heard Josh Groban sing, I was captivated by his voice.  I don't buy very many CDs, but I bought his.  I introduced Josh Groban to Mom and she promptly fell in love with his voice too.

I had to ask my Venezuelan friend,  Daisy to tell me what this song was about.  It's nice to see the English translation is also offered with this video.  (Oops!  I see you have to actually go to the Youtube site to get the translation.  Sorry about that.)

Well... for some strange, incomprehensible reason my kids are not enamored of Josh.  Why is that?

Jon and his Sarah lived in Washington, D.C. many years ago, and Sarah worked for a bookstore.  She was offered free tickets to a Josh Groban concert.

Jon called to tell me they would go juuuust because they knew how much I liked him.  Jon said he'd tell me all about it.  When the call came, Jon said they lasted only until the half time intermission and that the audience was filled with middle aged women.

Puhleeeeze.....

A few days later he sent me a couple of pencils advertising the Josh Groban's concert.

I understood that my son was having fun with me.

A while later, my son-in-law, Ed received tickets for a Bears football game from his company.   The Bears were playing against San Francisco.  My daughter, Tiffany said this was a BIG deal.  We were down front in the center of Soldier field  in Chicago.

OK... you know I'm NOT a sports fan and I'm really NOT a football fan.  I never know what's going on.  Actually, my son-in-law's friends couldn't go which is why he ended up offering it to us.  Ed knows I never know what's going on in sports.

However, I decided to go not just to spend time with Tiffany, Ed and their friends (and eat hot dogs and nachos), but for my loving son, Jon.  LOL!!!  I had them take this photo so I could e-mail it to my sports fanatic second child.

Touche!

    1. I guessed 0 too, Kawika. But Art (the electrical engineer husband) said 15 and explained why. I always believe my husband, but I checked on the Internet also and what do you know? Art was right. The correct answer is 15. For a Youtube video on it to explain how you get 15 check here:

    2. Order of Operations--had lots of fun with 6th graders doing these kind of problems.

I'm in the Josh Groban group. I like his singing too. He and Charlotte Church sang at the closing ceremonies of the Salt Lake City Olympics.

  3. interesting how our tastes are different. I was just emailing caryn about my taste in music. I listen mainly to new age music now-it soothes me but drives my son nuts...lol!

  4. I think it's interesting how different our tastes can be in things that we enjoy doing with our spare time. I don't listen to music much and didn't know anything about Josh Groban. I kind of like his music, thanks for introducing me! :-)

    1. Yes, I did hear from Peggy. Her leukemia is in remission right now finally so that was exciting news. Her son got married which gave her such happiness. I wish she'd get back to blogging, but when her own blog suddenly wouldn't let her enter to post, I think it discouraged her. It's scary to think that can happen.

  6. I will have to ask my kids if they like Josh Groban....I have no idea. I think he has an amazing voice.
    Good one on Jon.

  7. Oh that's so funny...now we know where your son got his "having fun with me" from. I always appreciate your posts because they make me chuckle. My husband provides all the comedy I need, my own comedy central lol

    3. Awww....Kay, you're so nice to say that. Whenever anyone compliments him he says, yeah I'm just one big joke lol But I like people who have a sense of humor since I'm always so serious and negative (chicken little).

  8. LORD KNOWS WHAT THEY WOULD THINK OF ROGER WHITTAKER, ONE OF THE GREAT SONG INTERPRETERS OF OUR DAY WITH A WONDERFUL VOICE. Sorry, didn't mean to "shout." You could tell them to cut the ageist crap but that would be inconsistent with the tenor of your blog; it would be too bass. HENRY HANK CHAPIN

    1. How embarrassing. I had to google Roger Whittaker because I didn't recognize the name. However, I have heard his songs before. I love The Last Farewell. His voice is like butter. Beautiful! Too bass? Very funny.

    2. HENRY HANK CHAPIN My very limited point, which I didn't explain, was that Roger Whittaker appeals to the middle-aged crowd and might be considered square by some younger, edgier folks. But, he is truly a good singer with many signature songs.

  9. I love Josh Grobin's songs! I was fortunate enough to go to his concert here in Charlotte a few years ago and it was the best concert I have ever been too! What a wonderful person he is!!

  10. Okay Kay -- maybe you're not as old as you really are. Roger Whittaker, Pat Boone, and all those good guys, Bobby Vinton. My son "borrowed" my Beatles One CD, and my high school concert band CD of classical tunes, so I was honored. He even chose Iz's Over the Rainbow/It's a Beautiful World for the Groom/Mom dance at his wedding. I think I like the Canadian Tenors even more than Josh Grobin. Nice listening. DrumMajor

    1. Oh definitely, I stuck it out to the bitter end, not really knowing what was going on. Art says we did win though. We think.

  12. You obviously went to that game with "forethought and malice", carrying that CD with you. Very funny. What we won't do to connect with our sons, whose worlds are so different from our own.
I have to admit though that I would prefer the football game to the Josh Grobin concert.

    1. How funny. You're right though. And you're also right about the lengths we sometimes go through to connect with our sons.

  13. How funny. I do like his song "You Raise Me Up". I think Josh really does mainly appeal to the female set. If you had brought an Ipod, you could have listened to Josh at the football game to make it more bearable and drown out all the yelling.
Actually, I would have really enjoyed that football game.

  14. Never heard of Josh Grobin, although I'm going to listen to your link, but I'm with you on the football. I refuse to understand the concept of first downs, although every time I tell that to a man they immediately start to try to explain them to me. If I happen to go to sporting events I always volunteer to make the concession visits, as they are the highlights of the trip to me, I also volunteer for the worst seat as I feel it is only right. I do enjoy basketball and baseball, but can't settle down to a whole game. If at home I overlap on the computer or maybe with a catnap.

  15. Sports are a foreign language to me. I don't listen to much music but I can speak and write Spanish so I understand Josh the singer in this video.
