KC's Photo Album

We sent KC a 58 page digital photo album of their Trip to Hawaii which we printed for her (as she requested) and mailed in a flat rate box.  It arrived in Illinois in 3 days.

Tiffany called to say KC loved it and that her mom and dad both had to read all the captions and speech bubbles for her.

We're suspecting she'll probably have it all memorized soon.

I asked KC what her favorite page was and she said it was the one where she and grandpa planted the papaya seedling.

I thought she might say the Disney breakfast at Aulani or Discovery Center or Trip Around the Island or the Waikiki Aquarium or the beach.

But no... it was that special time where she planted that papaya tree with grandpa.  I wonder if she remembers planting that first papaya tree with Art when she was about a year and a half.

Well, she won't forget this one since she'll always have this hard copy.  When you think about it, perhaps she'll look at this more because it's printed rather than on the computer.  Sometimes old fashioned is best.

  1. What a neat idea and she is so adorable. Isn't it like a kid to treasure those things that involve people and not money spent. Great lesson for us adults.

  2. How wonderful that you sent this to her! When our son was little, we took him to London. What does he remember from this trip? Playing tiddly-winks with his English grandparents in the hotel room!
    Beautiful photos.

  3. That's a great idea that my granddaughter would probably like too. I put together an album like that from pictures my family had gathered when I was growing up. I made copies for my siblings. Photo albums are great to have and digital photography make it easier to put together nice collections.

  6. One thing I have from long ago are pictures. I rarely print any of them any more, and you make me realize that they will probably not be preserved. Hard copy pictures are definitely great for posterity. She's so adorable, Kay.

  7. No doubt the printed copy will get a lot of hands on use, but it will be nice to have the digital copy in years to come when her time comes to be the family historian.

  8. that is so sweet!!! children sure love to look at photos and here the stories about each one.
My 3 year old granddaughter will sit for so long and hear stories about her as a baby (she's still one to me/ha)

It's sad that most pictures are stored on computer and phone and not printed. I'm gonna start printing more.

    KC will treasure her album!!

  10. Because of your projects, I printed out my travel blogs (with comments from readers) and am storing the pages in binders. Lol. Thanks for the idea, but my way is effortless. Can't be bothered with research, etc.

  11. No doubt KC loves her time spent with grandpa....she was even her grandpa's helper (or shall we say grandpa was KC's helper lol) picking the pineapple (in the picture from your post the other day). She's indeed very special and discerning to love the deeply meaningful rather than the fleeting fanciful. Beautiful photo book, just like your blog.

  12. The photo of KC says it all. What a treasure you have given her. I would bet that for the rest of her life, this will be one her most treasured items. In many ways, I'm not surprised by her response regarding her favorite memory. Kids like the simple, bonding times over the fancy trips or commercialized activities that we sometimes think they will treasure most.

  17. There is still a place for books, printed out that you can hold in this digital world. Good work-a treasure to preserve your heritage as a family.

  18. My daughter made flip photo albums of the family for her children when they were young. They would look at it like a story book and she would tell them over and over something about each relative. The children did not see us often but when they did, they knew who we were immediately and would want to see our chickens:) Those little photo albums are practically shredded now.

  19. KC'S is certainly riveted to her own, personal album! What a meaningful gift to give her. I made a much smaller album after a great-nephew's visit a couple of years ago but never heard if it was enjoyed or not. Such is the difference in families.

  20. Such a lovely idea, Kay, and such a lot of work for you, I know. But now you'll forget all about the work because KC has received your gift with such enthusiasm. And I'm sure you're right, she'll have it memorized before very long.

  22. I agree, Kay. Nothing like pictures you can hold and look at over and over again. I made photo books for my grandkids after their trips with us too. Much easier than DVDs. I'm sure K.C. will enjoy it a lot.
