How Do You Break Your Fast?

Our breakfast is almost always, pretty much, sort of the same.  It depends also on what kind of fruit are available although we usually have papaya throughout the year.  My mother eats her breakfast at 5:00 and has the unenviable task of dividing the papaya into three parts.

Art and I eat later.  We don't enjoy waking up at 4:30 like she does on most mornings.  Whereas mom eats oatmeal every morning, Art and I alternate our breakfasts.

On one morning we eat cereal with our fruits (fresh and dried).  Art eats his fiber type cereal and I eat a cereal concoction of about four different types that I like at the moment.  I have coffee with a little chocolate milk mixed in.  Art drinks tea.  We add soy milk or yogurt to our cereal.

When we took this photo a friend had dropped off blackberries and strawberries so we had additional fruits on top of our usual papaya and apple banana.

On the alternate morning Art makes the breakfast with prunes, craisins, apple banana, cinnamon and Quaker oats.

He cooks them all together (except the bananas) and it may not look great, but is quite tasty.

Then he adds the banana on top of the oatmeal with a dash of soy milk.  It's really very good and is extremely filling.

It starts our day off very well.  What do you have?

  3. Very nutritious breakfast! I have a piece of rye toast with a hard boiled egg and vegenaise, sprinkled with habanera hot sauce with a cup of black tea. Then at the coffee shop an hour later I have my usual 12-oz latte, made with nonfat milk and a single shot of espresso. That's my normal breakfast, unless it's Sunday, and then I have scrambled eggs and polenta.

  5. Every morning I have my coffee with a half cup of raw almonds. Super easy to fix, helps keep the sugar count down, and surprisingly, sticks to my ribs until lunch time.

  6. We have our coffee, at least two cups each. 1/2 papaya with a scoop of cottage cheese. Then, whatever we feel like eating. Sometimes a bit of our leftovers. Sometimes toast with cinnamon or avocado/sugar or peanut butter/honey. I eat oatmeal at least once a week. But we're not as disciplined as you are lol

    1. How funny. We eat our avocado with sugar too. It must be an island thing. We have that for lunch though.

  7. Our breakfast is more or less the same, muesli or oatmeal with nuts, raisins, wheat germ and bran. Today I'm having muesli with fresh strawberries and organic milk and yogurt (I don't like soy milk). I can eat dairy foods, no problem, and have low cholesterol anyway, so that is my indulgence. And a big latte!
Your mom is smart to take those early morning walks. I think I might start doing that. It's a great time of day to be out and about.

  9. Blessings....
Breakfast is seldom the same for me as I go with whatever i feel like, that can range from fruits and toast to boiled eggs or just left over from the night before.

I say whatever makes you feel good and full go with, to each his/her own.

    stay blessed.

  10. Most days its high-fiber oatmeal, small glass of V-8, half a grapefruit, and a half cup of blueberries over the oatmeal. Oatmeal is zapped in rice milk. When out-of-season, frozen blueberries are thawed in the micro.

  11. I'm going to come to your house for breakfast. I'd love to have papaya available all year 'round without it costing a fortune, because it's so good for the digestive system.
These days I breakfast on toast, with a side of water, like a prisoner in solitary, and will do so until my digestive system learns to tolerate more interesting things in the morning. Sometimes, if I'm feeling adventurous and wide awake, I'll make myself scrambled egg whites. How exciting is that?
Dick and Lindy get up earlier than I do. Dick has Special K (no, not because he's thinking of me) with several things added: wheatgerm, blueberries, flax seed, walnuts and skim milk, plus, after all those healthy things, Splenda. Then he has an orange, of which he gives 1/8 to Lindy, then drinks his coffee.
I miss coffee. Sometimes I miss it so much, I have hot chocolate to console myself.
Tomorrow, when I move to Hawaii for the papaya, I'll come to your house for breakfast, LOL.

    1. Wow! Lindy eats oranges? That's fabulous! I should send my granddaughter to your house so she can learn from Lindy. I'll be waiting at my house with a papaya for you, Kay.

  13. When I'm home I have a breakfast shake of SlimFast powder, skim milk, tofu, half a banana and frozen blueberries. I have about three ounces of orange juice.

  14. Your title--my first thought was how to break the 25 hour Yom Kippur fast. haha
I like your idea of adding chocolate milk to coffee. Must try that. I'm usually too sleepy or lazy to fix more than toast in the morning.
