Update on My Mystery Bug Bite

I went with Art to his dermatologist visit on Wednesday.  His dermatologist is actually a PA (Physician's Assistant) at Tripler Army Hospital.  She is a very knowledgeable, perky, health professional.  After she finished using nitrogen to burn off some skin growths on Art I asked her about my bug bite.

Photo from Wikipedia

She said  they were arthropod bites which could be anything, even a crab.  It was more than likely a teeny spider or... yes, it's possible it could be bird mites if we have a nest on our house.  We don't have a nest though the pigeons are constantly sitting and waiting on our roof gutters.

I was told that she can prescribe steroid creams to put over the welt which would magically make it go away over night.  No kidding!!!

Now I have to make an appointment with Kathy, my nurse practitioner to refer me to this dermatologist so I can be given this steroid cream.  Oh yes, I definitely will after Tiffany and her family leave to return for the mainland.  Gosh... sadly only a few more days...

  4. I just wonder why you are the only one to get those bites, Kay. And good luck getting the cream. If you still have the bites, are you being bitten anew? Or are the bites there from before? Anything that lasts so long would worry me. Glad you've got expert advice.

  7. Hope you find out what kind of bite it is! I react to insect bites very badly-swelling, itching, etc. so I can sympathize with you!! Feel better!

  8. I was thinking it was probably a spider bite-hope you can get some cream...

  9. I wonder if OTC steroid creams would help if the recommended treatment for now is to bring down swelling and itch. The big mystery is finding the culprit.

Have a nice weekend with your loved ones!

    1. Right now, the itch is gone... pretty much. I'll wait for the prescription strength for the next one.

  10. The good news is that it's not a brown recluse spider bite! So dangerous! Not sure they have them in Hawaii.

    1. Oh my! I've heard of those. It's got a violin on its underside, right. Scary! I have heard that we have the black widow spider in some places. I haven't seen them though. The thing is I haven't seen any small spiders around the house.

  11. Those are some pretty nasty critters there. I'm thinking you would know if you were bitten by most of them! :-)
And I want the name of that cream too!

  12. After you flip the spider over to see what pattern he has.....(uh, not me, they get swatted hard with anything I can grab).... oh good grief....be sure and take your "swelling" pics to the appointment so Kathy will hopefully prescribe what's needed. Sleeping with insect repellent wouldn't please Art, I'm sure. DrumMajor
