I hope all you wonderful mothers are having a super HAPPY Mother's Day. I just saw this article in the Saturday Star Advertiser and it made me think. I've always given my mother small gifts like face lotion or a "little" candy that she likes. Since coming to Hawaii, we give her more time... time to see family which she loves, of course.
And besides... it's really not how you celebrate, but that you take the time to show your appreciation to people who loved and cared for you. I'd be happy to share my chocolates with anyone.
How did you celebrate Mother's Day?

Hi Kay, happy Mother's Day to you and your mom.
ReplyDeleteIsrael used to have Mother's Day but it got turned into Family Day. Somehow it is just not the same. It was in March, although I didn't even know until the day after.
My mother died in 1968. So instead I always call Mrs. H on Mother's Day.
My son would call me twice a year, on my birthday and on Mother's Day. Now that he is gone, he comes into my mind and heart, and I remember when we celebrated together. And my mother has been gone now for twenty years, but I always think of her and thank her for my life on Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day to you and yours, Kay! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm sending you a Mother's Day hug, DJan... for your mom and your son. I am so sorry for your losses. Hmmmm... which reminds me. My son did not contact me at all today. He's in Ecuador right now and must have forgotten. Sheesh!
DeleteOops! He must have heard me. My e-mail just pinged and it's him. :-)
DeleteWishing you and your Mom a very Happy Mother's Day, Kay! Enjoy!!

Happy Mother's Day to you and your Mom. Dianne
ReplyDeleteWe had a scrumptious dinner. Happy Mother's Day!
ReplyDeletehmmm. I really don't know how we will celebrate Mother's Day. No special plans today. We will play it by ear. Lol. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO YOU AND YOUR MOM, KAY!!!
ReplyDeleteWe too don't fight the crowds on Mothers Day. We're thinking next week, someplace very inexpensive since we've found that what kind of food didn't matter just getting together to take my mother in law out is what mattered most. Some years it was Sizzlers or Chuck E Cheese, and even McD for Thanksgiving breakfast. I don't like the commercialization of most holidays...yet look where we went.... Usually it is for the kids or the oldest person in our family.

We had such a busy day with family today and I ended up doing a whole lot of cooking. Still, it was nice to be with family. :-)
DeleteLots of moms besides our own come into our lives. Happy Day to Kay and her Mom! Thanks for sharing your lives with us; it's so fun to follow. To heck with flowers and chocolate, Kay, stay out of Mom's sake, eh? SHE does the cooking with it. Must try that; vegetables could be more than bland with a splash of sake. Aloha, DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteMy son went to church with me and then we came home and are watching a baseball game on TV. It is cool and rainy and that is WONDERFUL in Georgia, we have the windows open and just played SCRABBLE. (My son always beats me.) Might not sound exciting but it is perfect for me! Happy Mother's Day to you and to your sweet Mom!
ReplyDeleteThanks and right back at ya, Kay!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMother's Day has always been about sharing a meal, and sharing plants and flowers. This is our family's first year without our mother. My younger sister called me this morning, and then I called my older sister. We miss our mother.
ReplyDeleteNeither of my sister's had much going on this year, very low key. Me too, really. Jill and her family were here by 10:00, and Jake made it just before 11:00 and we had brunch together, contributions and cooking done by many. Jake's roommate, Tad, kind of our adopted son, since he is estranged from his family and we have known him since childhood, joined us a bit later. Jill and family left by noon to go buy seeds and try to find a way to grow something in their rental yard. Planting is in the blood. Jake and Tad stayed and we sat on the patio and visited for a long time. Tom sent then home with tomato plants.
Since then I have stayed on the patio, moving from the sun to the shade, reading the newspaper, and now catching up on blogs with my new laptop. I haven't had such a take-it-easy day in a long time. It's lovely.
I'm afraid my day was a whole lot busier than I planned. It's nice to put my feet up now and just try to relax. It sounds like you had a very wonderful day. Siiiigh...
Deletevisiting family...great day.
ReplyDeletea good mother's day to BOTH of you!

I visited my wife in the adult foster home where she lives nowadays. I brought her the flower arrangememt that was ordered by our children.Pretty conventional although meaningful.
ReplyDeleteOh Hank, I didn't know. I know she will have loved the flower arrangement and especially spending that time with you.
DeleteHappy Mother's Day Kay!
ReplyDeleteThank you everybody! I gave mom all your well wishes for a speedy recovery and she is absolutely tickled pink. She said to thank you all so very much!
