Reducing Blog Photos

Blogspot used to let you know how much space you have left for photos on your blog.  Since their upgrades, I don't see that information anymore.  Since I was already close to 70% full before, I feel like I need to conserve the megabytes I put on my blog.

I just checked online and found this answer:

The 1GB limit is for Picasa storage space.  It's a total by Blogger (Picasa) account, for all blogs owned in that account.

I've also seen advice that you should downsize the photos you post so that you can maximize Picasa storage space.  If you hit the cap on your storage, you can buy 20 GB more for just $5.00 a year so no sweat.

Still... I am downsizing my photos.  For one thing, if someone steals it for whatever reason they'll be getting a very reduced file that they won't be able to do a whole lot with.  It's really easy to reduce files these days so it doesn't take me long to do it although my brother set this magical something up on my computer that I can throw photos into and it spits out reduced photos automatically.

I've been warned that I should remember whatever photo I put on the web is forever.

  1. The magical thing your brother put on your computer sounds like just the ticket. I first select the photos I want to include in a blog post, then I move them into a folder on my desktop. Then I open one, choose "file" and "save as," then rename the photo and select a much smaller resolution(or whatever it's called) for it. Then I move on to the next photo. It takes time!

  3. I hate dealing with blog photos. Scary thought that whatever we post is on the Internet forever.

  5. Yes, I always size my photos for my blog. I have 2.2 GB left for storage, but that will last a long time because I size my photos, using Photoshop.

  7. I have no storage limit on my premium Type Pad account. There is a simple tool to reduce the size of the photo as it is displayed on my blog, but vistors can click on them to get the full resolution photo.
As the world of blogging gets more complicated, I'm glad I've stuck with Type Pad. It's not perfect, but nothing outrageous has happened to my blog, so far, and I seem to be able to manage it OK.

  8. I am still confused. If I run out of space, I buy more. Occasionally, I go in and purge the photos from old blogs. They may be forever, but I doubt it. Dianne

  9. I personally never understood the need for posting super huge photos on blogs. What, the reader gonna miss an important detail? With some things it's so, but those are far and few between. On the forums I'm on, many members are new to the internet especially posting photos and talk about giant size photos. Takes 5 minutes scrolling to get to the text.

  10. I don't use bloggers photo features. I use Snapfish then add the pictures via html. Mine are pretty good sized because I am as blind as a bat. :)

  11. Mage: No kidding! I have no idea how to do that.

  12. You can add a very simple script to the body tag of your webpage:
this will disable the right mouse click, either with the mouse or from the keyboard by using the keyed workaround. Of course, disabling the right mouse click is not a serious deterrent to a sophisticated user. There are still other ways to copy content from any webpage; you can also look into, if you are serious about it, embedding content into your pics which is not visible, just small binary markers to identify the pics as yours. Then you can copyright the photos for a small fee directly with the US patent office online, and send out webcrawler utilities or spiders that will tirelessly search the web to find out if anyone is using your pics or other content illegally without your permission. Other people place a small watermark onto their photos to identify them as theirs. You can charge a fee for licensing your pics if you wish, to those to whom you wish to grant permission to reprint your content/photos. If that sounds like too much to do, there are also photo services online that will accept photos from you and they will take care of the copyrighting part and licensing part.

  16. Hi Kay!
I don't use blog spot's place to save pictures.
I put the address of the place where I saved pictures on the blog spot.
why don't you do the same thing not to reduce the pictures?
    it's just a suggestion!

and I totally thought of the same thing as you actually.
    I really love my son.
So I was wondering if I had one more kid, I could love the kid as much as I love my son.
(is it a wrong expression of english?)

  18. Since photos are a huge part of what I do on my blog, I'll just keep on puttin' those big ones up. I spent the $5.00 long ago for extra storage. after foolishly dumping about nine months of blog photos that I have never had the time to put back.
