If you look way down on my side bar, you'll see I have a Feedjit Live Traffic Feed widget.
According to Feedjit,
Since I'm now living in Hawaii, I've been wanting to see how many islands I can get. There are 8 main islands in Hawaii. They are Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, Kahoolawe and Hawaii (also known as the Big Island). Only 6 of the islands have more than a 1,000 people. Kahoolawe used to be used for target practice by the military. Niihau is privately owned.
Yesterday, I was thrilled and excited to see that I had someone from FIVE islands who dropped in to check out the blog. Woohoo! If only somebody from Molokai would log on I could stop looking all the time. I've never been to Molokai. For one thing, the air fare is astronomical!
So if somebody on all the other 5 islands would join in our worldwide comment conversation that would be even more fun, don't you think?
According to Feedjit,
"Feedjit's live traffic map shows the geographic locations of the last 100 visitors to your blog or website on a small map. If you move your mouse over any point on the map the city and country for that visitor will be displayed."I've ignored it for a long time, but lately it's been fun to see where the latest person who checked on my blog was from. There is no way to know who the person is.

Interesting info about the Live Traffic Feed, Kay. I just gave it a try and "found" myself on the world map. What a rush!
ReplyDeleteWhy is air fare to Molokai so expensive? It's just a short jump across the pond, isn't it?
Kay, you are really world-famous!
ReplyDeleteLong live blogging.
I wonder if your widget does not recognize Jerusalem. They have me in Tel Aviv instead.
Hope you get Molokai.
Sorry, but I can't hear that name without being reminded of the leper colony.
Nice that the nun who helped St. Damien care for the patients will be canonized this year.
Hooray -- Hope the map finds Kansas okay; you know the Wizard of Oz keeps moving it around. Same question: why is it so expensive to fly to Molokai? I recall most inter-island flights to be about $60 to $100 each way. DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting, I'll have to check into it.
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I read this. Every once in awhile I check to see where people are coming from on my Feedjit too. I could change my town from Bellingham to someplace in Molokai and then you'd THINK you hit the jackpot. Too bad I don't know any city names over there... :-)
ReplyDeleteI just added this to mine yesterday! It is fun to see where the people come from, I hope someone soon visits from that island, I would go there and blog from there for you, no problem, I would hate to leave all this horrid snow and ice and cold temperatures but for you I would!.I'll leave now,,lol
ReplyDelete(just kidding)!!
That is a great geography lesson! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI had this on my blog but once I hit 156 countries, I had no change for a year! I gave it up.
Love checking out other parts of the world.
cheers!
feedjit is fun for those who never comment so you realize as a blogger than many more are actually reading your blog...hey-you never told us about the race...
ReplyDeleteThat is so interesting and I know you'll have someone from Molokai visit you soon....
ReplyDeleteHave you read the book...Molokai? It was very good.
I love feedjit ,have it since the very first week of my blogging.Kay I heard that soon Google friend connect widget (through which we follow blogs)is going to close from 1st March ,don't know if it is really true.
ReplyDeleteLucky you have such a map on your blog stats page. Wordpress doesn't. Wish it did!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool. When I have time, I'll check it out. San Diego CA is me. :)
ReplyDeleteEverybody: The air fare to Molokai is extremely expensive because very few people fly there. We wanted to take my mother there to see where she spent the first 6 years of her life when my grandfather ministered to the Hansen's Disease (leprosy) patients at Kalaupapa.
ReplyDeleteI wish the same recognition could be given to Brother Dutton who my grandfather knew as has been given to Father Damien and Mother Marianne Cope. Brother Dutton was at Kalaupapa for 44 years, taking over after Father Damien died. He also died at Kalaupapa. My grandfather told me he really respected Brother Dutton and that he was a very good man.
Kavita: Which is the Friend Connect? I hope it's not on my side bar.
Gigihawaii: Sigh... yes, that's why I haven't moved over to Wordpress although my back up blog is there. I like being able to have these widgets. Maybe that's why Wordpress doesn't have as much spam problems. Not many widgets?
Lin: I did post all about the Great Aloha Run on Monday. I posted a little late because I was hobbling to the finish line in the morning. Scroll down to find the post on Monday.
ReplyDeleteYup, I noticed myself on the feedjit. Only 1 from W.?
ReplyDeleteL. from W.
This is soooo fascinating!!!! Thanks!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy young brother and his wife and children just love Moloka'i. I'd love to see it sometime, too.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, let's hope someone from Moloka'i visits your blog, to round out your all-Hawaiian visitor status!
I didn't read about the run, either. Haven't been well this week and have missed a lot. I keep trying to lie down but Lindy dances and "sings" in the kitchen to get my attention. Feed-the-dog is her only priority.
Sigh.
Hi to Art, and all the best to your mom.
K
You should go to molokai, there is a lookout that has a view down to kalaupapa, right at the phallic rock. You don't have to pay any extra for someone to break into your car at the parking lot, but you may have to take a number to get a good thief.
ReplyDeleteEverything closes at sunset, there is no 7-11 or anything, although I think they have a restaurant now that may stay open till 7:30 or something. When the sun goes down you go to sleep. There used to be a bar (yes, ONE bar for the whole island) called the Pau Hana Inn, but it's long gone. The straights sat on one side and the gays on the other. If you were from out of town you took your chances. My hunting friends took me there once, and of course pushed me to the wrong side of the room and sat back to have some laughs. I think the property is owned by New Hope now and they use it as a retreat. Not sure if the seating arrangements are still the same :)
Considering you did all that research on your maternal grandpa, you have to at least look at Kalaupapa peninsula once. But, since you're up there go sit on the phallic rock anyway. Couldn't hurt. Or, maybe you can get a special dispensation considering your family ties, to go visit the peninsula. There's a flight every week, I think, although it's not listed anywhere. I've seen the planes while hunting in the mountains above the peninsula.
aloha,
walt
Walt: We should all go, Walt. He was your grandfather too! But, sheesh! Did you see the price for the flight?
ReplyDeleteInteresting and scary at the same time. Big Sister is watching you. Dianne
ReplyDeleteBlessings.....
ReplyDeleteI use to have one of those, i wonder if i still do, oh yeah i still do, it gives me statistical numbers. I can get more details if i click.
have a great weekend........
Blessings....

Kay! You've just GOT to get your Mom to dictate or write her history and upbringing. How amazing to be part of the story from such a unique time in Hawaiian history. Was she born on Molokai? Were her parents with her when she lived there? Any photos? DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteDrum Major: Oh yes... Art, Dennis and I worked our tails off for a couple of years to put together a family history album. I wrote about it here:
ReplyDeletehttp://travelerswife.blogspot.com/2010/10/family-history-project-im-done.html
I'm really proud of the work we completed. It was an incredible journey of discovery.
Kay, you are such a famous blogger that someone from Molokai is bound to pick up soon.
ReplyDeletecan i ride your coat tails?

ReplyDeleteCloudia: I'd rather ride yours.
I have 5 regular readers and I know where every one of them is from. I had 6 and 7 for a while but that didn't last. Just trying to be humorous. Everbody already knows this but it's worth repeating that the trick to attracting a lot of readers is to blog daily or almost daily. The topic doesn't really matter in the overall scheme of things. Visitors are just looking for something 'new' to read. No hiatus allowed. Don't bother to feed the pets. Just blog. In all fairness, Kay, do you read any Molokai blogs? Bet not. Are there any, dunno. You know, some of the older people there might remember your grand dad doing religious work in the leper colony. Dedicated man.
ReplyDeleteoh, forget to ask, wanna do a gasoline price post. Wasn't thinking about Molokai people but I bet they're paying $6 a gallon.
ReplyDeleteGee, I guess we can't just sneek in. I enjoyed the trip down your side bar, you have some interesting things and pictures I haven't seen before when visiting.
ReplyDeleteI was unaware of the number of islands. Thanks.
Found this so interesting Kay. I enjoy the widgets, especially showing where people are from. I like it because it improves my geography and I am getting pretty good at identifying the flags. I hope you can get your 5 island discussion :)
ReplyDeleteKay, if your grandfather had been Catholic he surely would have sainthood by now.
ReplyDeleteThat is interesting. I've never used this widget. It would be interesting to see who drops by and from where, but I just never have added it.
