Day Before the Aloha Run

We went to the Great Aloha Run (Walk) Expo yesterday and picked up our racing bibs.

We'll be getting up at 3:25 tomorrow morning and leave the house by 4:25.

We'll pick up Dennis at his home at 4:45 and then on to Aloha Stadium.

From there we'll catch the 5:15 AM shuttle bus for Honolulu.  The starting gate is at the Aloha Tower.

Art will run the race.

However, it's going to be a challenge for Dennis and me.  Dennis tells me he's got a little flare up of his gout. Wouldn't you know it?  My knees are aching a bit from trying not to be sedentary and doing my computer work/play while standing up and occasionally dancing to Pandora music.  We're both planning to take some anti-inflammatory before the race.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I'd cross my toes, but I don't want to strain them.

  1. Good luck Kay, I'll be thinking of you and hope you and Dennis will feel pain free for the walk, and that Art will have a good run.

  6. Lots of luck Kay, I'm sure you'll all be fine. I imagine you have to start that early because of the heat later in the day. Will it be dark?

  10. Gout!!! I don't know how that could figure into the exercise. That can be quite intense. Good luck to all and safe run, walk, and/or limp, too!

  11. Art is the serious one. You and Art can just have fun. Walk, don't run, and just have fun!

  15. I know you were concerned about Dennis having his eyes on a "finisher" shirt, but it sounds like he'll be sticking close to you.

  16. I'm hoping all is going well with the race. Darn those knees, ankles, toes, and heels. They get our attention just when we wish they wouldn't.

Remember you can always stop by for a frappucino and watch the others pass by. Our friends are running and our daughter is watching their children from about 4:30 am or so. By the time you read this, you will have already completed the race, or perhaps waited at Starbuck for Art to pick you up. Way to go Girl!

  22. Lucky's Favorite: Actually, I'm leaving right now. I just took two Motrins for my knees and a couple of knee braces just in case. Hopefully, Dennis' feet are OK. And Art?... he's all fired up and ready to run.

  24. I almost ran over like 20 runners this morning coming in to work in the dark. It's getting to be a ritual. Runners all dressed up in gay costumes and bright colors do their best to ignore traffic and step off sidewalks and curbs without looking. I do my best to not notice them and try to brake just in time. So far, no flatties (run over runners) but the day is young.

So, do runners really drool so much that they require a bib?

Use your shirt sleeve, works for me!
