We were pretty thrilled with Loctite when we applied it to our rusted screen door and mailbox.
For a few months, it seemed to have done the job. Then, to our dismay, the rust came back.
We are not happy campers about how Loctite performed at all.
On the other hand, the Sodastream Soda Maker appears to actually work. We bought our machine at Bed, Bath and Beyond.
Art was tired of carrying cases of Perrier or San Pellegrino home from Costco and then dealing with the deposits for the glass bottles.

I just saw this Pickles comic strip in the Star Advertiser and I had to laugh. We do now make our own carbonated soda water out of tap water. We haven't tried any of the flavors that came with the kit because we don't want to add any more sugars to our drinks.
The flavor is just as good as any carbonated water we've tasted and we really like the convenience.
However, I still haven't been able to fold that fitted sheet!
(I tried doing it like this post I did before, but still can't get it right.) Sigh....

Hooray for ISRAELI SodaStream company!
ReplyDeleteI just read the four [post I have missed for some reaon you aren't coming up on my list and I miss yours so much.I had to lookingh for you, there is another blog by this name, oops wrong one but I found you.
ReplyDeleteI agree about the beer study, I read all the studies with a wary eye, one week they say good next it will be bad.
I hope your family makes it to you, it would be great for them to leave the snow for awahile.
I agree the comic does seem mean spirited, kind of harsh for a comic, maybe we are just sensitive, I have never joked this way nor my husband,
I hope you win the battle with rust,
I remembered that one of my blogging friends had bought this and didn't remember it was you, Kay. I'm thinking it's much better for the environment.
ReplyDeleteI myself don't drink much carbonation, it doesn't agree with me. Can you make it less or more carbonated?
Pickles cartoon is one of my favorites and sometimes I think Brian Crane has a bug in my house listening to my conversations. He hits the mark with that couple.
ReplyDeleteKay - How about a tough plastic mailbox? They are pretty sturdy, double-walled like Little Trike Toys for kids. DrumMajor
ReplyDeletetoo bad about that mailbox Kay, does that mean you'll be getting a new one (maybe plastic? (-:)
ReplyDeleteI can't fold fitted sheets either but solved that by just using the same sheet, washing it and then putting it back on the bed...lol. Too bad about your rust...
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your soda maker is working for you even though the Loctite doesn't seem to be.
ReplyDeleteI have never been able to get the hang of folding a fitted sheet.
I don't think you can avoid rust. Even a plastic mailbox has screws on the side that will rust. On the other hand, we have had good results with the black enamel paint David used on our patio furniture.
ReplyDeleteOh, you made me laugh. I can't fold those darn sheets either!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of those soda makers. Interesting. I doubt we would buy one because we don't really like carbonated water, but it is really interesting to know they have such things.
DJan: Oh yes! You can choose how much carbonation you add to your water. We always put the littlest amount.
ReplyDeleteEverybody: We haven't seen a plastic one we like yet, but we'll be looking. Plastic in Hawaii doesn't do well either. Aggravation!
I was just talking to friends at my Zumba class and everybody was noticing how some of the rubber soles of our shoes just melt off.
That soda maker looks very interesting. I'm going to check that out.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it's time to send pictures to the company that made that rust proof paint. Disappointing.
I've never learned to fold fitted sheets either. I just wrestle them down to a managble size. That's the best I can do.
My daughter, who is not a housekeeper, wants her fitted sheets folded just so. I cannot do it. Somewhere in college she learned how to fold fitted sheets so that they are flat. I think Martha Stewart has a video on how to do this, but I'm not that picky about my sheets. Rolling up the fitted sheet and stuffing it in the linen closet does just fine.
ReplyDeleteOh, and bubbly water is good for your digestion.
ReplyDeleteI can't fold a fitted sheet either. My solution is to simply remove the sheets, wash them, and return them to the bed. Voila, they never see the linen closet. Dianne
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you posted about the Sodastream. I have been thinking about getting one, but was on the fence - not sure if really works. Now I know. Next time I am at Bed, Bath, & Beyond I am picking one up. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame when products don't live up to what they claim they do and so many don't
ReplyDeleteGoogle how to fold a fitted sheet and you will see several ways to do it.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to know about the sodastream. DH was thinking about getting one since he drinks A LOT of soda.
ReplyDeleteIt seems almost impossible to keep rust away forever, especially in Hawaii. That is why we stick to black. Black mailbox and black security screen door, that way the rust doesn't show as much. When it gets real bad, we touch up with plain old Rustoleum spray paint. I guess we're just low maintenance lol...
ReplyDeleteL. from W.
L from W: Sigh... we're still learning...
ReplyDeleteActually, what I said was not very helpful since you prefer white!! Ooops :)
ReplyDeleteL. from W.
L from W: Although the screen door has to be white to match the house, I'm at the point where black might not be such a bad idea for the mailbox. :-)
ReplyDeleteKay, your product report is very entertaining! Oh, maybe that wasn't the purpose?
ReplyDeleteRust is a small price to pay for paradise.
We just got a new fridge to replace our 12 year old one that had completely rusted out. It still works, so someone is going to pick it up. Good deal both ways. He gets a beat up but usable fridge, and we get it hauled away for free.
