Weight Gain Check

I checked my weight a few nights ago and discovered I'd gained six pounds!  SIX pounds!  On me, it's always around the middle, NEVER on top.  That middle pot, I mean part is a fat magnet.

Because I'm not tall and the rest of me... wrists, neck, ankles are thin people think I don't have to watch my weight.  I do.  I am pre-diabetic and my cholesterol and triglyceride levels have to be carefully watched.  When my weight goes up, so do those levels.

At my last check up Kathy, my nurse practitioner/primary care manager was not pleased at the results of my blood tests after all our rather decadent food type travel this year.  She gave me three months to fix myself.

Art and I usually check our weight almost daily. He checks to make sure he's not losing too much from his running and I check ... well... you know why.   I'd stopped checking and this is what happens!  Granted, I checked my weight at night which is when its heaviest.  They say it's better to check in the morning.  It's actually good for me to check more often because it warns me that I need to change what I'm doing.  This link at MedicineNet.com is a great site.

I found that standing in front of the computer for too long caused my back to ache a little.  However, when I added movement using the Pandora music, it's made it far better on my joints.

AND... I've already lost a couple of pounds in the last few days.  Four more to go.

  1. I understand your 'nightmare', lol. The same thing happens to me. I've been avoiding the scale. Maybe it's a lot of water gain.

  2. You've picked a hard time of year to lose weight. Good luck!

  3. I am to have my blood levels checked again in January, since I'm now on a larger dose of statin. I'll be interested in seeing what my new diet (wheat free) might make. I don't like to get on the scales but it's the only thing that keeps me honest. :-)

  4. I'm like you, Kay....any weight gain is in my middle. I really have to watch it. It sounds like you are doing a good job getting rid of the gain. I wish I could find a way to stand up at my desk at work.

  6. David won't weigh himself until after he has had a BM. And he removes all of his clothing, too, before stepping on the scale. Lol. Needless to say, I don't do either.

  7. Not the best or easiest time of year to lose weight, but I'm sure you'll do it -- I mean you've already lost some!! Hooray for you, Kay! Have a wonderful, calorie free day!!

  8. Kay, I have become convinced that an antecedent variable drives both the onset of diabetes and weight gain. Also, I know too many people who are overweight and do not have prediabetes or diabetes, and too many folks like my David who are very thin and are diabetic or very nearly there (I assume as the Doctor put him on Metformin).

  9. I have faith in you to lose it all. I do like your dancing at the computer. May have to try it. I did lose 5 pounds recently but don't recommend it. I had a nasty cold and food tasted yucky. Now that I am well, I am hungry again and bet those 5 pounds come home to roost. Hope they don't bring friends.

  12. I used to be slim, until high doses of prednisone made my life a nightmare. I know what you mean about blood sugars and triglycerides and everything. Combined with foot pain and other things, it is hard to maintain, never mind lose.
You, however, will succeed. I know you will.
Hi to Art and all the best to your mom.

  14. I'm working to maintain my weight loss through the holidays. I managed to take off a pound or two after Thanksgiving, but it keeps coming back. If I can keep from making a net gain, I'll be happy.

  18. Anytime I want to lose weight, one cup of noodles in the morning, one lb of salad in the late afternoon, & the odd apple & banana in between, and I'll lose 1 lb per day, for as long was I want to keep losing.
