I'm reposting a cute Hawaiian Christmas song, It's Christmas Once Again in Honolulu that we get a kick out of. (Please click on these purple links to hear the songs.)
Interestingly, I found the same song with slightly different lyrics called It's Christmas Once Again in Santa Barbara. And then there's It's Christmas Once Again in San Francisco.
I wonder how many cities Barry Devorzon sang this song for.
This is our third Christmas back in Hawaii and we're used to Christmas without snow now. Art and I grew up in the islands, but lived for 35 years in Illinois where things are a bit different in December. We lived where we could tell it was the holiday season by all the giant menorah lights in front of synagogues counting down the days before Chanukah and houses everywhere decorated in Christmas lights. We lived in a close neighborhood so there were a lot of back and forth walking in the snow to get to holiday parties. There is a certain wonder to walking in lacy falling snow at night with lights twinkling on so many of the houses.
Here in Hawaii, there is another kind of wonder. For one thing, December is the rainy season as many tourists probably know, and with it are the gorgeous rainbows following you everywhere. I see this outside my window all the time.
Granted Art is not happy about the clouds preventing energy from getting to his solar panels.
As the song says, we've got a lot of Christmas in our hearts. Tonight, we're attending a Christmas party where they'll be having lau laus, poke or kalua pork and probably a Hawaiian type dessert. It will be fabulous fun to spend loving time with these wonderful friends and their family.
We're definitely feeling the holiday spirit!

Kay, I love the rainbow-just gorgeous! I hope your Christmas Party was wonderful!
ReplyDeleteyour friends in Illinois will send you snow for Xmas.
ReplyDeleteEvery part of the world has its own charm in celebrating the holidays and I wouldn't mind celebrating in Hawaii. It sounds like a beautiful place I would like to visit some day. I've been to Chicago at Christmas time and it was pretty in the snow. We had a dusting of snow last night in PA and that is enough for now. I don't need a white Christmas because I want to visit the grandchildren on roads that can be traveled. I like your seasonal photos; it's a beautiful time of the year.
ReplyDeleteNice rainbow, Kay. Correct spelling: POKE (with an E, not an I) and pronounced POE-KAY, not POE-KEE.
ReplyDeleteHaole is pronounced Hao-lay, not hao-lee.
Wonderful rainbow. We've had a few years of snow on Christmas but I can really do without. We're having the family Christmas Eve here and the last time we tried it snowed and NO ONE came! Have a great holiday! Carla
ReplyDeletewe don't miss the snow at Christmas-that's why we retired to Southern UTah...and the desert.
ReplyDeleteThe rainbow picture is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteOur Christmas snow will be what hasn't melted from a couple of weeks ago...not so pretty anymore.
I hope Art gets some sun for his solar panels.
What a gorgeous rainbow! I've had warm or rainy Christmases in Texas, cold and snowy ones in Montana and a little of all three in the northwest! It's a beautiful time of the year though wherever your are when you carry Christmas in your heart. A lovely time of the year -- whatever the weather! Enjoy and have a wonderful day!

Beautiful rainbow Kay, enjoy your party, the food sounds fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGigi: Thanks for being my editor, Gigi. I'll make the correction right now.
ReplyDeleteI just listened to the Christmas in Honolulu music video. Fantastic! First time for me.
ReplyDeleteHas all the snow melted on Mauna Kea? I got depressed living in Honolulu around the holidays. My Mom was on the East Coast and I missed her terribly. I suppose Mom is home. Dianne
ReplyDeleteThat rainbow sure is pretty, I love rainbows but this year after a rin I saw only one. You know every time I see a rainbow it reminds me of Judy Garland singing the song in Wizzar of Oz. You know what, that movie was on last night and I watched it. Hope you have a nice Christmas.
ReplyDeleteDianne: No, I think Mauna Kea is quite white right now. I heard just a couple of days that hail fell.
ReplyDeleteWe are getting our usual rain in the Pacific Northwest, with nary a snowflake in sight. However, just a few miles away in the mountains, it's snowing, right where it belongs!
ReplyDeleteLove that rainbow picture, Kay. Enjoy your beautiful warm Hawaiian Christmas... :-)
Rainbows are almost as good a snow. I spent many years in Florida praying for it just to be cool enough to wear a sweater.
ReplyDeleteYes Kay! Actually it should be Christmas every day! A time of peace, a time of sharing, a time of hope!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the lovely song and the photo of the perfect rainbow.
Have a great Christmas time.
That is one pretty rainbow Kay .My special holidays greetings to you and your family kay .Stay happy ,healthy and blessed.
ReplyDeleteI remember Mr. and Mrs. Santa. We have a photo or two of them, shot from your car.
ReplyDeleteI can see how that Christmas song could be adapted to several different cities, but I like it featuring Honolulu.
I was going to say I don't remember much rain last December, then I remembered getting soaked going back to our hotel from Waikiki beach, and I remember puddles, if not actual rain, when we were on Kauai.
We have a bit of snow left, but there was a lot of melting yesterday, so there's also a lot of ice. No fun.

A Christmas rainbow - that beats snow any day in my book!!! Listened to the song - it was really cute! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteTom and I did our gift wrapping today. that mound of brightly wrapped gifts piled in a corner of our bedroom really makes it feel like the big day is near.
ReplyDeleteI also went over my menu plans and created shopping lists. The turkey came out of the freezer and into the refrigerator. The holiday spirit is in the air!
We're celebrating Christmas in Seattle this year. I love Honolulu's Mr. & Ms. Claus: got to see them a couple of years ago.
ReplyDeleteWow. I'd rather have a huge bright rainbow like yours than any store-bought decorations.
ReplyDeleteWe hardly ever see them here in Israel.
