Bloggers who have followed me for a long time know what a pain buying pants have been for me. From quite a while ago my children kept telling me that my pants were not up to the current fashion standard. My daughter said I needed to stop wearing "mom jeans." Even my son-in-law agreed that my jeans needed to be updated.
I finally gave in and let my daughter buy me a new pair of more fashionable jeans to wear to Egypt several years ago from Old Navy. I bought what I thought was comfortable. However, there was some stretch to it and after wearing them for a couple of days, they almost fell off of my hips when I was running across the street in Cairo. Just imagine what a scene that might have caused.
For one thing, at my age I don't have much of a hip anymore to hold those low waistbands up. On top of that there's been a redistribution of my body fat. It's now located in front of my hips. When I wear those "fashionable" jeans I get this horrendous, bulbous, blobby love handles. And on top of that... my blouses were too short for the lower waisted pants. Therefore, when I put my hands up, what did you see? Yup! Not pretty! So I had to update my blouses too.
I finally found some Docker capris that I live in now and Style & Co. jeans for when I travel (with a little higher waistlines).
Imagine my surprise when I opened the L.L. Bean catalog last week.
MOM Jeans!!!
They certainly don't call it that, but that's what it is alright. The waist is higher and what do you know? They even added elastic! I couldn't believe it.
What was that saying?
What goes around, comes around.
Sure enough!

Wahoo! Success! No matter what you are wearing, your smile will steal the attention!
ReplyDeletegreat news for you Kay, lol. They really are making things better, a style for everyone these days.
ReplyDeleteThink I am in grandma jeans, a whole nuther catagory.
ReplyDeleteComfort and covered are my goals these days.
Hi Kay! I just got my Internet connection back after almost a week, and it's good to read all your interesting posts that I missed.
ReplyDeleteGreat. Now can you convince Tiffany to OK the LL Bean jeans?
I always have better luck just buying men's jeans.
Always feel sorry for our Israeli girl soldiers who for years now have had to wear the low-cut pants as part of their uniform. That style is certainly not for every shape.
It has turned into cold and wet winter here in the high hills of Jerusalem area, so today I took out from the closet my cold-weather favorite: fleece-lined GAP blue jeans. SO warm and cozy!
You're singing my song. It is refreshing to read that I'm not the only lady who thinks like you about jeans. I regularly complain about jeans at my place. I'm thrilled that mom jeans are returning in style, but they never left my closet. The brands with lycra are more comfortable. My only complaint about jeans is the layers of fabric in the zipper. My tummy needs to lose ten pounds and so does the zipper.
ReplyDeletehmmm. I think I'll stick to muumuus instead.
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting for women bloggers to take all the jeans out of their closets and photograph them for a blog post. I have at least a million pair and none fit. I dare not spring for a $35 pair without being "absolutely sure" and with jeans there is no such thing. Do I sound defeated by denim? I am.
ReplyDeleteI have been waiting for SO long for higher-waisted jeans to come back in style. (Although I think they've always been there at LL Bean, I'm reluctant to buy clothes without trying them on first.)
ReplyDeletetrue, jeans tend to stretch, as in, you leave the house without wearing a belt, and by the end of the day, your jeans will be below your okole (butt). I use plastic electrical wire straps on the side loops.
ReplyDeleteI've got a closet FULL of jeans, but I've moved to cargo pants. I now feel absolutely naked without those two pockets on the side of the legs. And I would buy my pants from L.L. Bean if I were you. If they don't fit, you can send them back, but I'll bet they do! Good news!
ReplyDeleteKay, everything comes back in style sooner or later :)!!
ReplyDeleteI wear mom jeans too for the same reasons...it's okay!
ReplyDeleteMom jeans are the best. I won't wear anything but them. I go for comfort nowadays, not fashion.
ReplyDeleteLOL!
ReplyDeleteKeep those pants up, Kay!

Oh, you are making me laugh. I confess, I never gave up my mom jeans. Since I wear a size 18, and my hips are in front too, the only way pants will stay up is if they curve up to my waist. LOL
ReplyDeleteSo if we are Moms, just what is wrong with "Mom jeans" anyway?
ReplyDeleteStyle takes a backseat to comfort.
Good idea! I don't like those low risers either. My belly fat flops out. Ha!
ReplyDeleteI have some of those low risers and wear them with longish t-shirts, so there is no gap. But when I want to be comfortable, I'm glad for my mom jeans from L.L. Bean; they fit perfectly. I also found a pair of mom jeans at Value Village for a few bucks, and they are super.
ReplyDeleteI guess Oprah would recommend Spanx! But who could wear such things in the Hawaii heat and humidity?
As someone who is 65 and isn't a trend follower I, too, was told to "get with it" and buy the newer jeans. I have since given all of them to Goodwill and started buying "classic jeans" so that I can be comfortable and look nice again. Most of our female population has "muffin top" when they wear the drop waist jeans so I don't know how they think they look nice. All hail what has been around for a long time: jeans that are comfortable and in a style that can hide all those parts of us that are not flattering.

Hello! I'm so sorry your comment did not come out on my blog. A friend just told me she tried to comment, but it didn't show so I checked my Comment Moderation. Sadly, her comment is still not there, but I found yours! :-)
DeleteI have to keep looking for classic capris and shorts for Hawaii. I hope they start getting rid of these drop waist styles!
