Tif just sent me this little conversation she had with KC. Having just been with my granddaughter, I had to laugh. Tif says she can't understand where KC acquired this need for precision. Ummm... I could have told her, but I kept silent.
And a few years later, Jon became the rice bag. I think they both later decided they would choose their own costumes.
After seeing these photos, I suspect KC will never let me choose her costume either.
KC loves her Curious George books and since she was going to be wearing her monkey suit, Tif decided to be the Man with the Yellow Hat when they attended a Halloween party at a friend's house.

Tif: KC, I’m going to be the Man with the Yellow Hat for Halloween. I'm wearing my yellow shirt, yellow hat, olive cargo pants and tall black boots.
KC: Your shirt isn’t yellow, it’s orange.
Tif: It’s orangey-yellow.
KC: No, it’s light orange.
(Next, KC goes to her book shelf to get a Curious George book for reference.)
KC: Your pants aren’t yellow, your boots aren’t brown and you’re not wearing a brown belt.
Tif: Close enough, I’m the Man with the Yellow Hat.
KC: No, you’re not.

A blogger friend asked me what my children looked like when I dressed them as rice bags. Suffice to say none of our Illinois neighbors figured out what was going through my mind.

Happy Halloween, everybody!

Where in the world did you get such a large rice bag? I remember seeing them when I was a kid. My parents stored a large bag of rice in the closet, but since then, rice comes in smaller quantities. Cute, though! lol.
ReplyDeleteI also noticed you changed your format theme. And you love purple!
ReplyDeleteLOL.
ReplyDeleteAre we seeing the beginnings of a stickler?
Cute pictures, now and then.
I think your little rice bags are as cute as can be. Thanks for showing the pictures.
ReplyDeleteKC definitely has a good eye for detail. I think she and Tiffany make a perfect Curious George and The Man With A Yellow Hat.
Happy Halloween.
Very cute pictures! Happy Halloween to you and yours, Kay. :-)
ReplyDeleteKay, KC and many other children today notice so much detail-it is amazing! I think Tif made a good Man with the Yellow Hat and of course, KC was so cute as Curious George!! Love that outfit!! The little rice bag costumes were so cute too!
ReplyDeleteOh, how funny!! Love your photos, Kay! Happy Halloween!

it's fun to look at old halloween photos of your kids when they were little. my oldest son now in his 40s wore a star wars costume with his son last year and he is 6 ft 5 inches. will have to look for it...lol!
ReplyDeletePoor Tif, she can't even "pretend" something is yellow with KC around. LOL
ReplyDeleteThe rice bags were really cute.
Happy Hallowe'en.
K
These are happy=time photos. The rice sack I have not seen since I took a photo of a neighborhood store and a dog was asleep on the bags of rice out in the sunshine. My mom used Gold Medal flour sacks to make aprons, bonnets and dresses during World War II.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit and comment.
They are both so funny. The futon is delightful. Why doesn't she sleep on a traditional mat? She could roll it up and have an empty room to work in every day?
ReplyDeleteOh my, what detail! KC is going to be a fashion designer or a CPA or IT whizzo. Was Tif "permitted" to go trick or treating? DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteLove the rice bag costume!! I recall it was the rage in the late 60s or early 70s to make clothes like shorts or tops out of these bags, but a rice bag costume is the first I've seen. Your husband, Art, hasn't aged much! KC is such a smart kid, who makes accurate observations, the makings of a true scientist....a botanist?
ReplyDeleteL.
KC's so cute (if contrary)! Lol.
ReplyDeleteThey all look cute, even the man in the yellow hat who isn't?
ReplyDeleteThe costumes are so cute and I had not seen a rice bag quite like that one before even though it was easy to figure out what it was. It is fun to try to guess the source of unusual costumes. We always tried to get the obvious current super hero costumes when my son was small because he had strong opinions about it.
ReplyDeleteGigi: Art's parents owned a restaurant and we had a whole bunch of these rice bags. They used them as dish towels, etc.
ReplyDeleteDina: A stickler... Oh yes! Big time stickler indeed!
Mage: My mother can't sleep on a traditional mat because the bottom part would fold up into a rather large piece. We don't have closets that can accommodate it. Beside, her (very) firm mattress is comfortable enough.
Happy Halloween! Love all these cute photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely conversation! Happy Halloween!
ReplyDeleteNext time you come to the Hague, I'll show you the Peace Palace!
I like the Lady with the yellow hat. It works for me, even if KC is a stickler for details. :-)
ReplyDeleteCan I complain here? I made a very cool pirate costume for Isaac, and then his teacher said "no costumes". Boo on her! But we are all going trick-or-treating at the mall this evening. This is a first for all of us, but kids don't come to our house - no sidewalks, long driveway, and Jill doesn't really know here new neighborhood. So we'll all dress up and do the mall, nice and warm and dry indoors.
oh my gosh those kids are so cute!!!!Rice bags ,,, thats something I have never saw as a costume,, lol,, I have missed your posts and will now catch up,, I lost all my blog lists when my blog was attacked and I have just caught up,,
ReplyDeleteKC is observant and a stickler for detail. I love her spunk! She reminds me of my oldest daughter.
ReplyDeleteLove the rice bags!
Awwwww, I think Tiffany and Jonathan looked adorable in their Halloween costumes, and Tiff and KC too. Curious George was one of my son's favorite childhood reads.
