The bathroom is clean. Our hair is cut. Our one suitcase is packed with Kona coffee and macadamia nut candy. So we had a little time...sort of.
We got up early to fight the crowds and traffic again and headed out to Honolulu for the Senior Fair. My sister-in-law had to work, but my brother, Dennis was able to accompany us into Honolulu. It's great having him with us since he knows Honolulu like the back of his hand. He works for the Honolulu Police Department crime lab.
He was able to guide us to avoid traffic to get to Honolulu. We laughed when we saw the crowds at the Blaisdell Center. Wouldn't you know it seniors would be the ones to usually get up early to go anywhere?
Mom got her blood pressure checked.
After dropping off the Travel album with Auntie Grace we went to lunch and then to Marukai which is a membership store that sells a lot of Japanese groceries. I went to the Hello Kitty kids section since we wanted to see if there was anything KC might like. Everything was over priced. Dennis pointed out this sparkling wine warning (in small print) that it does contain alcohol.
I saw this little girl pick it up and bring it to her mom. There is something so not right about this!

Then came Dennis' turn. He and mom also got their flu shots from the Kaiser Permanente booth. (Art and I got ours at Tripler yesterday.)
We then walked around the center visiting a lot of the displays. Sigh... no, we didn't buy the Butter cookies. However, we collected a lot of freebies. Art signed up for his Zippy's Senior Card (must be 65) so he can always get 10% off his check from any Zippy's location. It costs $.99 for 2 years. It'll cost you $2.00 if you go to Zippy's to do it. I did the prize wheel at the Walgreens booth and got a $5.00 gift card to use at any Walgreens in the country. Whoopie!
We sure did have fun. Well, I did anyway.

Since Hello Kitty is aimed at children and specifically girls, I'm surprised that wine is for sale, albeit low alcohol.
ReplyDeleteThe Seniors Fair seems like such a great idea, I've never heard of anything like it in the UK. I've never bothered with flu jabs, but I suppose it's one of those things that I ought to at least consider now that I am a senior. The Hello Kitty wine ought to be banned, I'm horrified!
ReplyDeletewhat a great occasion,, shocking about the wine though,,
ReplyDeleteyou certainly manage to keep busy and do interesting things...
ReplyDeleteThe fair looks like it was so much fun and a very useful visit!
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is something very wrong about the sparkling wine in the Hello Kitty display.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me....I need to go get my flu shot today.
Hello Kitty sparkling wind - such a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteGetting flu shots - such a good idea! glad it worked out!
I know you must be very excited to be leaving for Chicago - maybe you're on your way now! One suitcase? You must have left jackets and such there?
I'd like to know whether you had a direct flight to Chicago or did you have to make several stops en route. Continental has a direct flight to New Jersey and from there I can take a cab to New York. Just wondered if there is one to Chicago.
ReplyDeleteBlessings....
ReplyDeletehmmmmmm.... am sure you are right about the wine but most parents don't think much of it.
looks like a lot of fun was had.
A nice day out but that wine's advertising should be a little more out there. BIG SIGN ON BIG PRINT, "SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN, CONTAINS SOME ALCOHOL." These big companies get their hooks in early, whether it be for tobacco or alcohol.
ReplyDeleteAlcohol in the Hello Kitty product? You must report this to the FDA. Thanks for the tip. Have a good flight. Dianne
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to see a place like this from your point of view. I don't like the Hello Kitty wine for kids, either! What a great beginning for your adventure, though. I look forward to what happens next.
ReplyDeleteWe got our Zippy's card and love using it!

Again, I learned something new...Zippy's senior card. I don't think we'll go to the senior fair so we'll probably pay $2 (cheaper than gas to go to the fair lol).
ReplyDeleteL.
oops...must be 65 to qualify for the Zippy's senior card. My father has one (just remembered), darn should have used it last time we ate there. I wonder if it is only a discount on his meal, and not for the whole group. Sorry for the rambling...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice trip to your home away from home...and I also think any alcohol in unsuspecting food items is definitely wrong. We don't need more trap doors to fall off the wagon.
L.
L.: Yes, that's right. You do have to be 65. I should make that correction, thank you. But, also yes, you can use the card to pay for the whole tab. Love it. My husband says it pays for half the tip in the restaurant. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the additional info that it can be used for the whole tab. No wonder at our last meal, the waitress even asked if we had any discount that could be used. She seemed a bit hesitant handing our bill to us, yet really didn't spell it out either (our mother in law was in our group of 10, I'm now sure she was refering to the senior card). Senior cards used to be "over 55", no longer a norm since the boomers became of age lol

I had to laugh when I read : Wine could contain alcohol...But it's dangerous if kids have access to the alcohol department, though in our supermarket they also could pick it easily. On the other hand they are always accompanied by their parents.
ReplyDeleteYour posts are always very entertaining Kay!
morning Kay,
ReplyDeletestarting to read your articles, oh....my baby boy waked up!
I gotta go to him.....
I'll be back at night!
Looks like a day of fun and I agree you are always busy going here and there. I agree about the wine, what are they thinking and parents should be the wiser.
ReplyDeleteHi Kay!
ReplyDeleteI used to like Hello Kitty when I was a kid.
I didn't imagine Hello Kitty is popular in the world!
