Strangely, Art and I both had wart like growths between the pads of our feet recently. His was on the right and mine was on the left. He got it first.
I don't recall ever having this problem before. I ignored it until it began to irritate me when I walked on bare feet around the house. Art's skin growth, warts or calluses bothered him when he ran. We're still not sure what it was.
His doctor recommended salicylic acid.
After his shower, Art dried off his feet and I brushed on the salicylic acid liquid. He waited for it to dry and just went to sleep.
After about 2 days pieces of skin came off, but not all. It took about a week for all the hard skin to fall off or be peeled off.
Then I noticed I was getting something on my foot too. No, I wasn't running.
Since it took a bit long for Art's hard skin or whatever it was to fall off, I thought I'd follow the directions and do it twice a day. I did it after my shower and in the morning when I got up and worked at my computer.
After about 3-4 days, whatever it was fell off. Then it was a little tender so I put a band aid on it for a day. It's feeling better now. Keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't come back again.
I hope this photo of the bottom of my foot doesn't gross anybody out. I guess this is what my kids refer to as TMI (too much information). They'll be shaking their heads as they read this post.
POSTSCRIPT: I just looked on line and what do you know? There was something on a Dr. Scholl's website. It is a hard skin thing, sort of like a callus and people do get it. I guess we're not alone after all.

A plantar wart, from the sound of it. I'm a bit of an authority on plantar warts, unfortunately, after getting a plantar wart that developed into a "family" of plantar warts on the heel of one foot (probably from the dormitory shower while in college). Really painful, but even worse was the surgery to remove them! And even sadder was the fact that they grew back. The surgeon explained that if the "mother wart" isn't removed, then it continues to reproduce. So, I used salicylic acid pads the second time around and got 'em for good! Because of that experience, I wear flip-flops in the shower when I travel.
ReplyDeleteHi Kay!
ReplyDeleteprobably you mean " Uonome " in Japanese.
I have it, too!
I sometimes try to get rid of it with nail-scissors.
but it appears again always.
my mother tells me my shoes don't fit my foots. especially heels are bad for my foots. these days I hardly wear heels though.
by the way thank you for your sweet words for me.
actually I got back from my mother's house 2 weeks ago.
every day I'm busy but of course I enjoy spending time with my baby.
there are many things that I realized for the first time when I became a mother.
sometimes I feel lonely when I imagine my baby grows up.
because men separate from their parents.I mean daughters can go shopping and talk about something with their mothers but men don't do that with their mother. and in Japan they spend time with their wive's family basically.
I can't explain it well in Enlglish. I hope you can understand it.
I haven't ever had any but I will keep that product in mind should one appear.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you had good results. Hey, that may be TMI for kids but it is PSA (public service announcement) for us older folks. Thanks.
I like what Patti said: PSA for us old folks! Didn't bother me a bit. Good macro photo, too! :-)
ReplyDeleteYo Kay -- Ouch! The plantar (foot) cauliflower kind of warts have a hereditary tendancy, and can be spread by frequent sharing of space. Got some from holding hands with the first husband, my son had a big one on his knee, and I've had one on the back of a heel. A dermatologist has the best luck with freezing ours, because the over-the-counter acid wart treatment wouldn't work. In the '60s, my brother's toe warts were cut off--bleh and a mess. Nowadays, freezing is much easier. (They just freeze with blown-on nitro, they blister up, then come off.) One dermatologist tried repeated laser zapping -- it does too hurt more than a rubberband -- and it didn't work. Good Luck! DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteI hope they've gone for good, Kay (but keep the treatment handy, just in case)
ReplyDeleteI think your foot is cute...lol! Glad you solved the problem...
ReplyDeleteSorry about your wart but I'm laughing at the TMI..... my kids always tell me the same thing.

David has had a wart on his foot for over a month! His podiatrist prescribed acid patches as well as a cream, and he freezes it, too. He told David he would never perform surgery on it, because that would lead to scar tissue which would be extremely painful to the point that David would never be able to walk on it again.
ReplyDeleteWe plan to go dancing with friends in mid August, so I hope it clears up by then.
I wonder what the difference is between warts and corns. I get a corn every now and again, where my little toe rubs against the next toe, and it's a complete pain in the proverbial! Did you take the photograph of your foot or did Art?
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your TMI statement. My kids would say the same thing. Patti is right. This is a PSA. I guess when we get older, we discuss things that the younger generation would be horrified about addressing.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your foot is healing.
Sometimes writing about things that are important to us comes before the Eeeeeewwww's of our kids. LOL Yes, I had a year of surgery to get rid of mine....and still they come back.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Patti, important information. I am sitting her wondering how you got the photo of your foot. Are you a contortionist?
ReplyDeleteWow, that's some sexy feet there kay! Is that a racing stripe on your foot??
ReplyDeletewalt
Everybody: I'm thinking it wasn't a plantar wart because it didn't have a cauliflower look, just extremely thick skin built up on each other like calluses.
ReplyDeleteAya: Don't feel lonely yet. My husband always went home to visit his parents and treated his mother (and father) dearly, making sure she had everything she needed. He also encouraged me to enjoy her company. How close and thoughtful your children are usually depends on the relationship you build while they are growing up.
Amanda: Yup! It's my foot alright.
Dianne: I took the photo myself. I'm a bit more flexible than Art is.
Walt: Verrrry funny.
I hope it works! I had some warts on my hands that required surgical removal after all else failed and even then dermatologist said they might come back. It's been a couple years now and they haven't -- yet.
ReplyDeleteI've always been paranoid about me feet. I work on them constantly. I only have two and I need them to remain in good condition. I used to watch my mother trimming corns on her feet with a razor blade and vowed I'd never let my feet get in that shape. I use a file to keep dry skin from collecting on my heels etc. I also use a foot cream every day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you and Art may have picked up a little virus that was lurking around. I've used this wart medicine from time to time since I was a young girl. I also file the bottom of my feet from time to time since I'm prone to calluses on the ball of my foot.
Weird that both of you got it. Glad you got rid of it (hopefully for good).
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it's worthwhile using a mirror to look at the bottom of your feet every so often. Those warts or callouses will led to permanent bone spurs at the wrong spots if they're left to rub against bone.
ReplyDeleteSuch useful and interesting posts this week, Kay!

I'm not going to say EEEW! I always heard those warts arent' contagious, but obviously they are.
ReplyDeleteoh, you know another thing too. If you ever get a splinter while barefoot, make sure you dig out the hardened skin, scar tissue, just to make sure it don't end up ingrown. For real. Spent years digging one outta my soles before it finally stopped.
ReplyDeleteRon: Wow! Thanks for the heads-up. This can get annoying. I've never had this before. I really don't think this is a wart because it's in the exact same place as Art and another friend said she had the same problem too. Weird...
ReplyDeleteI am sure this is going to benefit many .In fact it is good that you shared that foot picture.Hope that the tenderness goes away soon and the wart never returns.
ReplyDeleteI have never had this problem but will keep this product in mind just in case. Have a nice weekend.
