I was running into all kinds of trouble with Blogger the last few months. It wouldn't let me comment on certain kinds of comment pages.
Even though I knew I was signed in, the options at the top of my blog that should show wouldn't appear. I also couldn't go to a direct edit from my blog page.
The weird thing is when I use Art's laptop with the OLD Explorer (I don't know which one it is) everything works just fine. It's the new one that causes me all the grief.
And then Cloudia mentioned the Firefox browser a while ago. I'm still partial to Explorer, even the new one because I find it easier to enlarge fonts and I know where everything is... sort of. I had to do a search to find out how to enlarge web pages on Firefox. (You use the Ctrl key with the + or - button.) Waaaaait a minute.... I see the Zoom Out - and Zoom In + button on the left of my Firefox screen. Was that always there? Sheesh!
However, doing comments on blogs and working on my own is easier with Firefox. Somehow, it appears to be more compatible with Blogger.

Remember that half the time I don't know what I'm doing on the web and I still don't understand half the functions on Blogger. I'm using the new post editor and it's maybe better, but I'm not positive yet. It's got new features but I'll have to get used to it. There's so much to learn and I'm not a good technology learner.
On the other hand... maybe this is good for my brain. It's certainly taxing what little gray matter I have left.
Oh... and the other thing I like about Firefox. When I make comments on other people's blogs, it does a spell check automatically. Not so with Explorer. How cool is that?!
POSTSCRIPT 1: OK... I spoke too soon. Now my sidebar is acting goofy even on Firefox. Sheesh!
POSTSCRIPT 2: I just found a blog called Beautifully Invisible when I visited Nan at Letters from a Hill Farm. Beautifully Invisible is a new blogger who is keeping her identity anonymous. However, you do see very quickly that she is technologically advanced. She gives a very detailed and illustrated HOW-TO on switching from Blogspot to Wordpress. I found it very interesting. It still sounds a bit spooky for me and so far... Firefox is working adequately, but if you'd like to try moving, this was very helpful.

It's a losing battle with these computers.
ReplyDeleteThanks for Cloudia's advice.
Blogger was crazy for many bloggers the last week or so. I got many error messages when trying to publish comments I received.
Firefox is my preferred browser.
Good luck, Kay.
I give you credit for trying new programs on your computer. One would think you are a computer whiz!!
ReplyDeleteIt can be very frustrating lately. One day I couldn't comment on any blogs as I kept getting that 'service unavailable' message. Now everything seems to be okay today but it's been an ongoing issue for some time now. You just don't know what to expect from one day to the other.
ReplyDeleteI think you do a great job,, I sure could use spell check in my comments,, thank goodness I have spell check in my posting blog entries, or my real stupid would show.I once was a spelling champ but since my head injury i'm lucky if i spell my own name correctly,, have a super duper daay!!
ReplyDelete"I also couldn't go to a direct edit from my blog page."
ReplyDeleteThat's what I miss most.
I have three browsers on my Macs (Safari, which comes with it, Firefox, and Chrome). I found that Chrome is the best one for blogging, and since it's made by Google, that makes sense for Blogspot. I reverted back to the old editor since I got very frustrated with the new one.
ReplyDeletethere's a new post editor??? well I have a mac and use safari...lol!
ReplyDeleteI found Internet Explorer was letting me down - or I was letting it down, whatever - so I changed to Google Chrome which seemed infinitely better. I might try Firefox, though.
ReplyDeleteMy Blogger is bloggering about again, losing the blogs I follow, losing my followers, not allowing me to comment . . .
On the advice of Son #2 I switched to Chrome several months ago (on both my kitchen computer and my laptop). It seems to work well on both.
ReplyDeleteWow, you almost have me switching with that spell check feature. Somehow, words even correctly spelled don't look like they are in the comment box. I sure waste time checking perfectly good words and miss the horribly misspelled.
ReplyDeleteSo many choices these days. I was using Firefox at my brother's and liked it. I have Chrome as the default on my iMac, so if I click on a link in my e-mail, it opens in Chrome, but I usually use Safari. I've been having plenty of trouble with Blogger lately, so I don't think it has too much to do with the web browser.
ReplyDeleteOf course, I could be wrong.
I keep losing my followers from my blog. They'll disappear for a day or two, then come back without fanfare.
Who knows? But good for you for trying to work it out, my friend!

The finished product -- your blog, itself -- looks fine to me, though. How cool is that? Keep doing what you're doing!
ReplyDeleteExplorer 9 isn't working well with anything. They need to go backwards with it. I too use Firefox, but I think Blogger is burping a bit this morning. I can't leave notes a lot of places.
ReplyDeleteI'm hearing some people are considering switching to wordpress...apparently there is a free version and it works!
ReplyDeleteWordPress has a site that will handwalk you through the change from one blogging application to WordPress. I love WP and wish you all were on it. Leaving comments on Blogger is such a a pain. I have to go through so many steps. With a WP blog, I just press comment, write, and hit post. I'm glad I have more time now that I'm retired. For a long time I never commented on Blogger blogs for that reason of all those steps. Which sometimes don't work, or they work too well and post my comment 5 times!
ReplyDeleteOh my. I need to write a new post, but I am getting nervous after reading about all the difficulty folks are having.
ReplyDeleteAloha from Waikiki;
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing that, Kay. I think Blogger is having issues.
My new blog posts are still not updating in blogger/reader OR links on others' blogs
So I ESPECIALLY appreciate YOUR visits! Thank YOU

I'm having the same isues on my desk top computer, but my mini uses Firefox and doesn't have the same issues. I don't get it either, but I'm afraid to change anything. I might lose everything. Like you, I know just enough to be a danger to myself and others.
ReplyDeleteAnd right now my desktop is acting very strange. We're waiting for our son-in-law to arrive next week and hopefully sort if out for us.
In addition, I hate Firefox on my Mac. Safari does wonderfully well for me. My husband, on the other hand, swears by Firefox on his PC. I almost get hives when I have to work on a PC. Not really, I taught on the things for years, but Macs are just so much better at doing everything. Another reason I quit teaching: the school district refused to let me buy Macs even though I had written the grants with which to buy them.
ReplyDeleteI had those problems too but still am slogging through with Explorer. It's better now.
ReplyDeleteSorry you're having technical problems. I've been using Firefox for a couple of years now and I really like it.
