When we offered to take her to Sam's Club to get new glasses with transition lens, she was all for it. (This is after we priced the cost of glasses around town.)

Here are mom's old glasses.
We went to Sam's Club, met Alex the Super-Optician and chose the largest frames we could find because we knew she wanted large frames that would shield her eyes from harmful cataract causing UVs. Well it was OK at the store but after wearing the glasses for a few days she just didn't like it. She didn't like the oblong shape. She didn't like the line of the bifocals which caused her to have to move her glasses up and down to watch TV or pull weeds, etc. She just didn't like it and that's that!
Alex read about her plight on my blog and encouraged us to bring her back and fix the problem. We finally got her to agree to it and brought her back. This time Alex found frames that looked almost exactly like her original ones. We even got a $41.00 refund because these frames were cheaper than the one we chose earlier.
Mom was happy at the store and said the new pair that Alex chose worked better. She said they were even clearer (I'm sure because it's a more current prescription).
Keeping my fingers crossed. I'll bet Alex is too.
POSTSCRIPT: After 5 days, Mom is loving her new glasses and really loves the fact that the transitions give her an instant sunglass effect when she's outside. Phew!
I think Alex is my hero. I wish he worked at our CostCo. I'm so impressed with the way he has helped your Mom, what a great guy! We don't have a Sam's Club around here. Your Mom looks great in her new glasses. I'm interested in getting a pair of transitional ones after reading this post. Thanks Kay.
ReplyDeleteAll's well that ends well. So nice that everyone was patient, honest, helpful, caring.
ReplyDeleteI have two pair of glasses but only one are the transition lens, so they end up being the only ones I wear. It's wonderful to have instant sunglasses and I don't even realize how much they have darkened until I see a picture of myself. I got mine current prescription and lenses at Costco and they have been great!
ReplyDeleteYour mom does look much better in the new ones.
hurrah, it's so nice when problems are solved!!!
ReplyDeleteSalutes to people like Alex. The new pair suits her well ,look at that beautiful smile .
ReplyDeleteIs there a special award for heroes like Alex? Optician of the Year, perhaps - there should be:-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Your mom looks so cute in her new glasses. BRAVO, Alex!
ReplyDeleteAs person who wears bifocals, I know how important it is to have them fit right. So glad you discovered Alex, and Mom is happy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad for your mom!!!! And she looks cute in them too!
ReplyDeleteHooray for Alex! And I bet he's pleased, too!! Glad the new ones are working out for your Mom!!!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
Glad the story has a happy ending.
ReplyDeleteI thought transition lenses took a long time to change back and forth. Does it happen quickly now? I like real dark lenses, so I have magnetic clip-ons over my trifocal lenses that came with the frame. Somehow, Mom looks YOUNGER in the newest glasses! Alex is a saint and needs a bonus! DrumMajor
ReplyDeleteGreetings ! I've been lurking here many times, and come over from Sylvia's .
ReplyDeleteThe minute I saw your Mom's photos with the two frames, I myself liked the earlier ones better. I am so glad you had Alex to help you out, and your Mom finally has the ones she likes !
Kay, your mother could have used her OLD FRAMES with NEW LENSES. That's what hubby and I do at Lenscrafters. I am shocked Sam's Club did not consider it.
ReplyDeleteDrumMajor: The transitions change color in seconds. I don't even notice it happening either until I take them off and look. I do feel the difference though in that I stop squinting.
ReplyDeleteGigi: Alex did suggest it, but they would have to take her old glasses for a couple of weeks and she'd be without for that time since she doesn't have a spare pair. She loves it that now she has a second pair, just in case.
ReplyDeleteYeah for Alex! I wish I could go to him too.
ReplyDeleteAlex is a keeper. He has really gone the extra mile for your mom and he even reads you blog. How cool.
ReplyDeleteyour mom looks so happy with her new glasses, well done!
ReplyDeletewow, she looks great!
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing service. I am SO impressed by your mom's Alex. Imagine him reading about it on your blog and encouraging her to return!
ReplyDeleteOf course, your mom is so cute I'm sure all young men want to make her happy, just to see her beautiful smile.
I was glad to hear he suggested new lenses for her old frames but of course I understand she wouldn't want to be without glasses for two weeks.
I hope she has room in her luggage for that spare pair for your trip to national parks where there aren't a whole lot of opticians! If she doesn't have room, then ask Alex for a copy of her prescription, just in case.
Hi to Art and a hug for your mom.

Good old Alex! That's what I call service.
ReplyDeleteI need reading glasses from few years ago. I regret to say, my eyes demand me to be fitted with own specs within a short period of time. Your mother's smile gives me a relief.
ReplyDeleteI love my transitions..not so crazy about the bifocal but the progressives made me dizzy
ReplyDeleteMichelle: I've had my progressives for several months now and I am STILL adjusting to it. I can't seem to find that "sweet spot." I also have to take off my glasses to see anything three feet in front of me.
ReplyDeleteyour mums glasses look great,,such a pretty lady,,its amazing what a difference new glasses make,
ReplyDeleteAnd she looks very pretty in them, too.
