Renee has been taking Zumba toning and exercise classes for a month now and really feels the difference. This was my second time.
Zumba is an aerobic dance exercise class using a lot of South American and what looks like Indian movements. It's quite different from my line dancing class where the foot movements are precise, your arms don't move much and we're taught the steps carefully.
In this Zumba class, you don't get a ton of instructions. We just follow our teacher, Stephanie and mimic her movements as best as we can. She is very popular and there are now about 60 people signed up and growing. The time does fly by and I have to say I'm enjoying it a lot. It's fun to spend time with Renee and meet some of the women in the neighborhood. I think meeting new, friendly people is the best part of my Mondays now... even if I have to sweat to do it.
POSTSCRIPT: Sally wondered how much the class costs. I only take this class on Mondays although you can go twice a week, and then there's a toning class with weights, etc. It costs $30.00 for 10 lessons. Everytime you go, you sign in. When you've gone 10 times, you pay another $30.00. I really liked that since I am apt to miss lessons when we're on a trip or whatever.
I'd like to take a rumba class, if only there was one nearby. Friends who've taken rumba really love it.
ReplyDeleteAt least more people are joining the MWF exercise class I attend, so that's making it more fun.
Good for you, Kay! Not that you need exercise, but I'm glad you're having fun and meeting your neighbors. And I know you're bringing something great to the group, too, because you're such a wonderful person.

This sounds like an exercise class I would like. They have them here, but I haven't found one scheduled after my work hours.
ReplyDeleteGood for you for trying and being able to do zumba. I tried it and thought I wouldn't be able to walk out of the place because of my knees. I am open to doing it again, but the place that offers it here is quite expensive. I wonder what the going rate is other places.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a fun class. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteWe've got Zumba classes at our gym too, Kay. I'm thinking of trying one soon. Now I can't wait! :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a go-getter!!!!!
ReplyDeletefun exercise, I've started a line dancing class-costs $1/class-can't beat that price...lol!
ReplyDeleteWhoa! It is $80.00 for ten lessons here. That's why I haven't gone. I pay less than that per month for my gym membership and I love the pool.
ReplyDeleteThis is one way to keep toned up, good for you Kay, you always seem to be up for a lot of things.
ReplyDeleteI'd been doing Zumba at our athletic club. It is one hell of a workout!! Bring a towel!!
