Leaping Into Blogging

I began this blog in a Leap Year on February 29th, 2008 so technically I should only truly celebrate my Blogaversary every 4 years. Ah well. The funny thing is I don't think I even thought about the significance of the day when I finally began. It seems incredible to think I've been doing this for almost three years now. I started the blog as we prepared to move to Hawaii. I'd tried several times to do a blog, but couldn't get past a title. I'd read that people often did themes for their blogs and had some catchy name to reflect their interest. But, what was I interested in? Sigh.

I finally gave up and decided to just leap in using the generic Musings. Dina (who was a dear friend in Illinois) of Jerusalem Hills Daily Photo encouraged, cajoled, nudged, held my hand through the set-up. It just struck me as so incredible that here was Dina in Israel, e-mail texting back and forth with me, walking me through creating my blog life until I could fly on my own.

In July of last year, on a whim, I somehow started writing a post a day. I guess I just wanted to see if I could do it. I plan to continue this until my Blogaversary (sort of) in 10 days. I'll do it until March 1st. Then... I plan to relax a bit. Maybe.

  2. You plan to relax a bit, from blogging, you, Kay?!? I'll believe it when I see it.
Not that you don't deserve a rest, after 3 years of faithful blogging.

Jerusalem Hills DP celebrated 3 years just yesterday. So we were new bloggers together.

I got inspiration from following a blog in a neighbor country,
    http://cairogizadailyphoto.blogspot.com/
and then got encouragement to start from its author, Maryanne.

So now we are all one big community of friends that did not exist before Feb. 19, 2008. Quite wonderful when you think of it.

Thanks for all your musings, Kay. They help me learn about you, Hawaii, life, and the world.
    Blessings to you always!

  3. I'll miss seeing your blog name popping up on Google Reader as regular as clockwork, but no-one will be able to blame you if you slow down a bit; blogging every day is one heck of a commitment.

  4. it gets to be quite the daily habit that i look forward to. I started 3 years ago last November and was so happy to meet you a few months later cause you were one of my first followers and then many of your friends joined me. A friend of mine in Ohio was my blogging mentor and emailed me with advice and how tos. Now I teach classes on creative blogging-what a fun trip. thanks for your support and friendship...

  5. I so enjoy reading your musings and learning about life in a completely different place. It's hard to blog daily - I haven't managed it yet and admire you for succeeding :-)

  6. Hi Kay,

I started my blog more than 4 years ago -- November 20, 2006. Hard to believe, but I have managed to squeeze in a daily post since then. Sometimes, there are 2 posts in one day so I sometimes skip the next day. There really is no rhyme or reason to it.

I love your blog! Don't give up now, Kay. Continue to write something new every day. I always look forward to seeing your new pictures and new stories!

  7. Congratulations on your 3-year-old musings. I like your blog title and it's definitely better than "sigh". LOL!

I started blogging on October 21st, 2010. Today is only a four months cerebration. Let's see how long I will be able to maintain my blog...

  8. I had to look up my first blog. It was April 8, 2008, as we were getting ready to travel to Erupoe - two riverboat cruises around the Netherlands and on the Seine to Paris. You were the first blogger to "find" me, and I think it was photos of Kuekenburg Gardens and the tulips that caught your eye. In this big blog family that grew up around you, I feel like we are blog sisters.
I don't blog every day, but I try to have something at least every third day. I always look forward to seeing 'Musings' pop up on my blog list.

  9. You don't have to quit entirely. Just do a post when you feel like it. That's kind of what I do. I'm not very regular about it. I'll miss you if you stop. It's been so great to get to know you and your family through this outlet.

  10. I also have you to thank for getting me hooked on blogging. I would like to post everyday but I don't think my daily comments would be all that interesting. So I put if off 'til tomorrow...and then the next day...etc.
I am going to follow your lead. Cross your fingers. And thanks, Kay.

  11. Kay;

DITTO, you were my inspiration, my muse and my biggest supporter!
I love reading you day to day, but understand the need to relax.
I know also that traveling is a love that both you and Art enjoy so much. (can't wait for your visit to Illinois)
So just enjoy my friend. Whatever you want to do, I want for you.

  12. Congrats on almost 3 years! I think blogging everyday gives you more inspiration, than if you blog only when "it" strikes. At least for me it´s that way. My computer was "out of order" for a few days, so now i´m having a hard time getting back into things. My mind has gone blank...

  13. Congratulations on three wonderful years of blogging, Kay, and I'm so glad I found your blog soon after I began blogging. I don't even remember the date I started because I didn't have any thoughts about how important blogging would become to me! All I remember was that in was sometime in mid July of 2008. I can't even imagine a day without blogging and, of course, photography! That was something else that I had never done! Taking a few pics on vacations and of Sam Schnauzer with a disposable camera was about all I had ever done! These days I almost sleep with my camera!! You have always been an inspiration, Kay, and I thank you and hope you continue just as you are! Enjoy your week!!

  14. I can't imagine you relaxing, but I can understand if you don't have time to blog every day because you're too busy doing other things. I'll miss you, though.

  16. Bravo, Kay.

Remember when NaBloPoMo use to be write 50,000 words in a month, never mind if the substance is all jiberish, just the volume, talk about free-style writing, then they downgraded that to a post a day for a month....but an entire year of daily posts!! You can count on one hand the number of bloggers on the planet who've done that. Ever.

  17. Ron: Actually... I'll only have done the daily posts since July so that's just 8 months. Now look what you've done! You're making me think of another record. A post a day for a year? Hmmmm...
    Nah...
    Then again....
    Nah...
    But...

  21. I always look forward to visiting you, Kay and am delighted to have found you. With all the work I do with politics that makes me crabby, you're a beautiful refuge! Long may you stay!!!!

  22. Congratulations on your impending milestones! In my original blog I wrote a blog post every day for a year; at the end it was nice not to have the obligation hanging over me and to just write when I wanted to.

  23. Relaxing isn't a bad thing. I did a post a day for over a year. After awhile it becomes a job rather than a joy. Lately I am just too tired to think of anything witty to say.

  24. Congrats, and gratitude to Dina!

You are an important blog friend to so many of us, Kay.

  26. Congrats! Amazing isn't it. Mine will be 5 years in June! WOW! Posting everyday is definitely a challenge. I've been doing it every day but plan on taking a break a bit myself! Good luck and I'm glad I found your blog!

  27. How nice to meet Dina, and it's always a joy to meet you here when ever you have the time to blog.

I've been keeping a paper journal since 1974. Somewhere in 1999 or 2000, I started a blog at Open Diary....a closed "Hive" journaling community. It crashed once long ago and so I don't have the real start date. That first entry I found notes that the font is too small and I couldn't add pictures. You can see I figured it all out.
