Mosquito Romance

I almost wrote Mosquito Sex, but thought I might get spammed by cyber nuts.

Every time I get to my computer in the morning and look out these days, I see this cloud of (what I thought were gnats) mosquitoes. They're very hard to photograph because they're so tiny and they move around so much. We do have a lot of mosquitoes in Hawaii, especially during the rainy season, but I've never seen these tiny guys (and gals).

I was wondering why I'd been getting bites every so often when I haven't heard them buzzing in my ear. The big ones buzz. Out of curiosity, Art used a magnifying glass to look at what we thought were gnats and discovered that they were teeny tiny mosquitoes. Arrrrghhh! I hate mosquitoes and these can come through the screen.

Ooops! Close your eyes. I didn't realize I'd caught a pair in the throes of passion here. You didn't think I was a voyeur, did you?

Here's a whole bunch I found on my desk!

Arrrghhhhhh!!!!

POSTSCRIPT: I'm noticing that people are thinking the mosquitoes are having a carnal time in the air. I'll bet they could but this pair was actually clinging to my glass window pane.

The more you hate them, the closer they get to you:)

  5. My 11 mo old grandson lives in Pearl City. No wonder he has bites all over his face and limbs! Poor thing!

So far, Foster Village, where I live, has not been inundated by these mosquitos.

  9. Your new header is awesome. I love it!

I'm not a misquito fan either. They're real acrobats aren't they. Who would have thought, sex in the air.

  10. Terrible, mosquitos so small they can come through the window screen!
I don't remember seeing mosquitos at all when we were there in December, but they don't usually bite me. They do, however, bite Dick, although I don't remember him complaining. Aha, he says he was bitten once, but one mosquito-bite is a bit of a non-event, isn't it? LOL
I hope they are soon gone. Dreadful for you.
Hi to Art and all the best to your mom.

I love your header - absolutely stunning :-)

  12. Those are tiny little buggers. I guess they look a lot prettier to each other than they do to us :)

  14. Your header brings back memories!
We have a mosquito problem in summer here, and can't really sit outside after sundown. But at least ours can't come through the screen!

  15. Are these the day fliers? We get both day fliers and night fliers. They can't get through our plastic screens, which have a very fine mesh. Also we have a Skeeter vac mosquito trap that effectively keeps the numbers down.

I think with all the rain you have had, the amount of standing water has bumped up the numbers of mosquitoes, and that could be just temporary. We always have mosquitoes here.

  16. i guess there are lots of them in your warm weather climate. We have lots of them here in the summer. Thank you for coming by.

  17. We would be eaten up by mosquitos, if we didn´t have screen windows. We are very careful to always close the doors right behind us, because we have so many bugs around here.
But I´ve never seen mosquitos "doing it" before. :)

  19. Oh Kay, I just LOVE the header photo, so pretty and hopeful! Lifted my spirits right away. As for those pesky mosquitoes, horrors. We have them here in the summer as we live on a tidal brook/marsh. We cannot sit outside as they would carry us off!

  20. "Skeeters" as we call them here in the South, are just a part of life down here. But those buggers are really tiny! Ours are big enough to lift a car! lol Your new header is gorgeous. What a pristine place!
