My nephew told me about Groupon a few months ago. I did sign up for it, but haven't seen any discounts that I would like to buy yet. When Tif and Ed were here last month they bought discount tickets for jet skiing. Although they got a good deal on the jet ski experience, they were gouged on the shuttle to the boat area.
Last week, Tif told me about livingsocial.com/. She said I should sign up for it and get the $20.00 off of an Amazon purchase by paying $10.00 to Livingsocial.com. She warned me to do it quickly because the "deals" don't last long.
I did it last Wednesday. I see that the Amazon deal is completely sold out now. I'll be applying that "coupon" toward my... ta daaahhhhh... Kindle.
Other than that, I haven't wanted to buy any of the discounts to restaurants, spas, horseback riding, etc. Sounds like a nice concept though. I'll see what the future brings.
POSTSCRIPT: Aaaaaackkkkkkkk! I did it! I ordered the Kindle!!!! Aaaaackkkk!
Wow, once you get that Kindle I hope you won't be too busy to blog.
ReplyDeleteA few Israeli boys invested just a few tens of thousands of shekels and started Grouper. Now your Groupon came and bought them out for a reported 8 million dollars!
you are getting to be a real techie! lol...
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Kay, with your Kindle! Both my daughters have one and are very enthusiastic about it.
ReplyDeleteAwww, shoots! I was so hoping you'd buy a Nook so I could hear you tell me about the great deals at the public library!!! Now, I'll never know.
ReplyDeleteThe free books that Kindle offers don't interest me as I have already read so many of them.
Gigi: Oooh... I'd love for you to tell me which free books were good. You can always download books from the Honolulu Library on your home computer. You can also just click on to the Overdrive system and see what books are available easily. Here's my post:

Just click onto Overdrive from there.
Neither are available in Myrtle Beach, SC yet. Oh well. Soon I hope. I have many friends who use Groupon.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on ordering the Kindle. I really enjoy my Sony Reader when traveling, and I read it at home, too. In fact, I haven't been to the library in almost a year. I must get my card renewed! In the meantime, I have been re-reading the books on my own shelves, and using my Reader. I'm sure you're glad you made a decision about which e-reader to get!

Well let me know how the living social coupon works out will you. We had a friend offer this to us last week but the Hubster is always very wary of offers like this where you have to pay to get something. So I'd like to know!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the Kindle, you won't regret it and if you need any help, just ask.
I'm a Luddite and have no interest in a Kindle but I do hope you enjoy yours. As to bargains, I'm an unrepentant eBay addict.
ReplyDeleteMy son told me about Groupon and LivingSocial at Christmas, both of which started in the UK last year. I haven't found anything I want yet though. There's also something similar called Top Table, which just specialises in restaurants. I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on with your Kindle. One friend has a Kindle and another an iPad, and they both love them. I still get a kick out of the feel of a book whilst I'm reading, so will probably wait until my eyesight tells me that I need something else.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by "Aaaaaakkkkk! You have made a decision. Now be thrilled! And excited!
ReplyDeleteWell done, Kay! One less decision to worry about.
ReplyDeletecongrats on your Kindle!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many versions of these group buying websites out now, it's hard to keep track of the deals. But I guess it's fun if you do find something worthwhile every now and again.
Kay, I use Groupon all the time here in the DC area -- used it for Christmas gifts (Canvas on Demand)(Sailing lessons for son) and recently for some Car Wash discounts. Haven't used the restaurant ones yet because they're mostly in the district and we live out near Dulles Airport...but I keep checking!
ReplyDeleteHi Aunty Kay,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on buying your Kindle! Hope you like it :)

You know, Kay, I'll be magnanimous here. If you decide you don't like the Kindle -- for any reason what-so-ever -- you can just send it to me and I'll see that it never troubles you again. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would congratulate you also but I don't know what a "Kindle." is?
ReplyDeleteThe same thing here. We get the coupons, but we haven't found one we would use yet.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves hers...and I have the Nook....
