Downpour!

We'd been babysitting KC for a couple of days to give her mommy and daddy some alone time to jet-ski and enjoy the night happenings in Waikiki. The plan was to bring KC to join them yesterday for another couple of days. They planned outings to Waikiki Beach and perhaps the zoo or aquarium with her.

We've had a lot of forecasts for rain and thunderstorms that never happened. Well... yesterday we had a downpour! There was rain in every part of the island. What happened to the micro-climates?

After dropping KC off with her parents in Waikiki, we headed out to Ala Moana Shopping Center to do some shopping. Apparently there had been a power outage so some of the stores were not opened. I can't remember the last time I've been to Ala Moana in the rain.

What was there for the poor tourists to do? They couldn't do the usual tourist things. A lot of the stores were still not opened. They could see some stage shows at the mall which was nice, but what else?

Tif called a little later to say they might be returning to our house early if the rain continues. Poor KC... Perhaps they'll get to the beach later in the week.

  1. Yeah, I, too, wrote about some flooding on Oahu. I didn't venture out at all. Just stayed home and ate fast food. Ugh! I really don't need that in my diet. Will get back on track today, though.

  3. Oh, it does look wet!! We actually had some sun nearly all day yesterday and Adam took me down to the harbor to get some pictures, but by late afternoon, the sun was gone, the gray and rain returned and looks as though it's going to be a very wet Christmas. Hope KC gets to spend some time at the beach and that you have sun again soon. Have a lovely week and a very Merry Christmas, Kay, to you and your family from Seattle!

  4. Oh that's a shame.
You just can't trust the weather anymore, anywhere.

  5. That's a shame... but maybe KC would like to pick another papaya with Art.
Amazing that Art caught both KC and the fruit!

  7. We've been hearing about the rain there and the path the storm is taking. This time it is dumping on California instead of the Northwest. They expect flooding and mudslides, and heavy snow in the mountains.

  8. The storm never reached us in Hilo. Isn't that funny! But it's a perfectly normal winter storm. I remember being drenched in Manoa Valley once. Never been so wet.

  9. I know that California is having rain, mud slides, it is a mess out there. It hasn't snowed much here, can see some of the grass. Have a Merry Christmas.

  11. Wow! I remember the last flooding that had boats and houses plunging down the Makaha creek, which is usually dry. I hope this storm wasn't as devastating.
