Christmas in Hawaii

My daughter, Tiffany and her family returned to Chicago this morning at 6:00. They will arrive at O'Hare Airport at midnight, Chicago time. It will be cold, very cold.

However a good hunk of Christmas day was spent at Koolina Beach. Although they did get to experience the "Hawaiian rainy season" the sun came out enough that they were able to get three wonderful beach days in. KC was upset each day when it was time to leave the sand and surf. It's hard to believe that a year ago, she was afraid of the sand.

When they saw this little sand snowman that someone built, it reminded them of what awaited back home.

The house is awfully quiet now. We've put everything away. There was a downpour this morning when they left, but the sun has peeked through this afternoon.

I keep hearing KC's voice echoing off the walls.

  1. Oh, Kay, you and Art are going to hear that little voice for a while now, but how wonderful you had her there for a visit. I was thinking about you when we were in Honolulu for a few days before we flew home, and I imagined you busily doing kid-stuff!
Koolina looks like a pretty beach, and not too crowded. What fun to find a sand snowman.
We went down to Waikiki, and Dick swam a bit, but was somewhat put off by the signs saying "Jellyfish" and of course I didn't even try. I'm feeling better now, but very tired.
Thanks again for our wonderful tour. We had taped some TV shows while we were gone, including Hawaii Five-O and Dick was tickled to see places he had photographed appearing on the show, especially those giant Christmas figures!

  3. So glad they could spend all that time with the two of you. You will miss them, but aren't you headed to the mainland soon?

  4. Ditto the above comments! David said he saw you and Art at Macy's. What a coincidence! He didn't find a bedspread he liked at either Macy's or Sears. I hope you had better luck.

  6. Ah, but that little voice is echoing precious memories. Parting is hard, but it makes the time together that much sweeter.

  7. Gigi: Actually, we found the perfect quilt at Ross in Pearlridge. I can't remember for sure if we mentoned it to David. It was so great seeing him.

  9. It's wonderful that they could come to Hawaii for Christmas. Then you get to see them again soon!
Never enough time though, I'm sure.
Our kids left Christmas day and we took a lot of the decorations down already too. Seemed right.
Happy New Year Kay and Art!

  10. Our house is a lot emptier today, too. Two thirds of our guests left (Son #1 is staying through the new year.) It's ALWAYS good to see them!

  11. Even if the weather seems less than ideal to us, our guests are always happy to be out of the cold. I'm sure you miss your little guy a lot.
We have a short break now, with our daughter and son in law and grandson in Kona. We spent a lovely Christmas Day over there (even though we had to spend part of the time buying a car to replace the one that was wrecked), and they are returning to spend another week with us.
I love that snowman! What a gag. Of course we have real snow here, but it's something of a drive up Mauna Kea to get to it. I think we'll pass!

  12. Oh, wait. I'm confused. Guess you have a grandson and a granddaughter.

  13. Hattie: Alas... I wish I had a grandson and a granddaughter or a granddaughter and a granddaughter. But as it is, I have only one granddaughter who I'm missing right now.

  14. Oh Kay, how wonderful. What wonderful memories you have and that KC has for the rest of her life. She will tap into those wonderful times and they will make her smile.

  15. This is our first day back home. I am happy to be back in my own house, but my mind and heart often stray back to that home in Fort Morgan, Colorado, picturing what Jill and her family are doing. I called her this afternoon, just because.

  16. Glad you had a nice visit with KC and her family. Love the sand snowman. We still can see the grass in spots and tomorrow and the next day we are having a heat wave (57%).
