I've warned my mom to be careful when she's on the treadmill every morning. I've insisted that she hold on to the front or side rails (that we paid a little extra for). I've also drummed into her that she needs to put on the safety clip (she's holding) that will stop the machine right away if she falls. And I always have her put on clean gym shoes when she's on the treadmill. She has.... done all the safety measures, that is.
Well... yesterday morning I decided to finally give the treadmill a try since it looked like it might rain.
I got on and soon started to feel pretty confident. I didn't need to hold the rails because I'm younger (than my mother). I didn't need the safety clip because I have more balance (than my mother).
I thought.
At the 25 minute mark my left knee suddenly gave way. That was a shock. It has given way a teeny bit before but it was never anything that would cause me grief. This time it completely gave way and I fell. The machine kept going.
Once I got off, I checked for injuries. A tiny scrape on the shin and a bruise on the right knee that I fell on. The worst part was the morning after. The joint between my thigh bone and hip is really hurting. It's a dull pain... muscle I'm sure... I think.
It's aggravating, but the worst thing is my mom knowing I didn't do everything I told her to do.
Art is just shaking his head. He says he's going to tell on me to our son who might chew me out about this.
Ah well... I've learned from my carelessness and now I know you won't make that same mistake.
OH K a y . . . !
ReplyDeleteI hope you are going to get it checked out, the knee and this latest injury.
Be well!
Oh, no, Kay! So sorry to hear the treadmill turned on you, so to speak. I hope the soreness goes away soon and you and the treadmill are back on good terms before long.
ReplyDelete"Do as I say, not as I do".... :)
ReplyDeleteI'll admit that I'm a little scared of those things. Every year someone on "The Biggest Loser" falls off one, and I just cringe. I'd like to have one though. Since it's getting chillier outside, I know I won't be going out for a run much now. If only they weren't so huge (and scary). Hope you get better soon (and follow your own advice. Ha!).
ReplyDeleteMy aunt fell on a treadmill at the gym. There was blood everywhere. Someone called the ambulance and she was taken to the ER.
ReplyDeleteShe is fine now, but was very upset at the $900 bill for the ambulance!!!
Oh, I am so sorry, Kay! Hope it's not serious! And don't you hate it when this happens -- give instructions to older/younger and then do what you told them not to with lousy results? I do so understand!! Holding good thoughts for you! Feel better soon -- and obey the rules next time, OK?
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Sylvia
I've fallen on my treadmill (not using all the safety measures) and I have also learned my lesson. I hope your injuries heal quickly.
ReplyDeleteSo your not quite ready to join the treadmill dancers yet then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aeeR4Vnvs8U
ReplyDeleteI used to have a treadmill but because the weather is so mild here I always try to walk outside or do a walking video in front of the TV-I don't like treadmills either. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteNot that I would ever wish you any harm, my friend, but you will understand when I say I'm glad it was you and not your mother who had a fall.
ReplyDeleteArt is unfair to threaten to tell your son. I guess he figures you'll tell Tif, right?
I hope you don't have any serious injuries, and I hope you're back to normal soon.

Kay, what are we going to do with you?
ReplyDeleteToday I mentioned you in my post. I am very interested in hearing more about your family history project and how you did it. How did you deal with pictures and stories?
Oh, Kay, I guess maybe that's why I only have human powered exercise equipment. It least if I fall off, it doesn't run over me.
ReplyDeleteI've had problems with my knee, and now my ankle, buckling, or going into spasms. Holding on is now just what I do! Get better soon.
Thank you, everybody! My thigh bone is feeling better this morning. Still achy, but better which reassures me that it's not broken. Phew!
ReplyDeleteLinda: I'll try to do a post on the family history project to explain the steps we did.
Amanda: I did check on the YouTube Treadmill dancers. Needless to say I won't try doing that anytime soon.
Kay, so glad to hear you're feeling a bit better. That was really scary.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are basically OK.

They say pride goesth ... splat! ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I am glad you are okay. I took a tumble on a treadmill when I was in my 30s and lost a lot of skin on my knee. That was the day I learned about the safety clip.
Poor Kay! You do seem to be accident prone.
ReplyDeleteTilly Bud: I never thought of myself as accident prone, but now that you mention it...
ReplyDeleteHmmmm...
I used to go to the gym, and I know not paying attention just for a momemt, you can fall. I fell too.
ReplyDeleteOH KAY!!! Be so very careful. Just makes me cringe to think about it.
ReplyDeleteI bet that really hurt. I hope you had it looked at.
ReplyDeletePlease be more careful...your cyber family would be lost without your daily input!!
