Mailbox Medley

We need a new mailbox! As you can see, our mailbox is an embarrassment. However, we can't seem to decide on what kind of mailbox to replace it with. You all know how hard it is for us to make a decision.

Remember what I said about rust in Hawaii? Illinois with its extreme temperatures never rusted our mailbox there.

We walked around the neighborhood to check out what sort of mailbox everybody else had.

We have no idea why this mailbox was in a bucket.

Some of the mailbox stands were even more interesting than the mailbox itself.

This mailbox stand was made of gears and cogs.

Then there were the mailboxes with big bushes around it.

Perhaps this barbed wire creation was to ward away potential mail thieves.

We found this surfboard mailbox stand very appropriate for Hawaii.

Once we're done choosing our windows, we'll have to decide on a nice, sturdy mailbox.

  1. You'll have to personalise it! Mailboxes aren't seen a lot in UK - usually the postie brings the mail to the house and puts it through the letter box in the door. Houses which are fenced with security fences have mailboxes but they're dull affairs compared to the ones I've seen on various blogs:-)

  11. You guys never run out of things to choose and decide. Every time you write about it I smile. You really have a lot to choose from with the mailboxes. I loved the one with the surf board stand.

  12. Too cool! We have HOA so all the mail boxes in our neighborhood are black on a white post. Well some white posts like ours need to be painted because it is green from mold due to the humidity. We just painted it last summer.

  13. Those pics were great. You could almost make a coffee table book of mailboxes, so many different kinds. Didn't really think about that. Good luck with your choice!

  14. very whimsical assortment of mailbox photos. I'd keep the mailbox that you already have though, more safe and un-attractive to prying hands.

  16. Your mailbox looks like ours, except in order to be a real twin, it must leeeeeeeaaaaan over more, 20 to 30 degrees outta do it!

I think the bucket was to hold the cement... next time you are there trying moving it 2 or 3 feet to the right. Then next time, the same distance to the left. You can be the inspiration for a new children's novel, The Mailbox Who Wouldn't Stay Still.

Somewhere in hawaii a lonely engine is missing its camshaft. Looks like a big one, too. Might be a bus. "You can run your bus or you can have your mail; but ya can't do both." Old engines don't fade away, they get your mail.

  17. Oh yeah, the barbed wire.
I don't know about you guys, but I've never found a more successful solution to guard our mailbox from all the cattle rampaging up and down our street. Before the barbed wire, we almost had a milk shortage, da buggahs would just lay around all day reading junkmail and sniffing those free perfume scratch and sniff thingies.
