OK... Art has broken down and agreed to sign up for Netflix which I did right away. Then I saw the problem. I don't know what I want to see. Have you seen a movie that you could recommend? We've just seen The Dark Knight (Batman) and wasn't very fond of it. It was too dark and violent for me. I like happy endings or something that looks like a happy ending. I hate Horror movies because they give me nightmares. I guess my brain doesn't separate real from fantasy well enough. When my brain sees something that looks like blood, it just thinks it is blood... not ketchup. I HATE sad endings. I like a movie that makes me feel good at the end, and no, it doesn't have to be Cinderella. We like Science Fiction (Avatar was great!), comedy (hated Borat), romance (Pride and Prejudice...sigh...), drama, historical drama, action, mystery, musicals, etc.
So then, seen any good movies lately?
Lucky you, Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen ANY movies lately, so I'm no help. But as you remember, I would grab anything with Peter O'Toole. :) Does Netflix have such oldies?
We have the cheapest Netflix account, which allows us to have one movie out at a time. BUT...you can download many many movies for free, including lots of oldies. We watch them on our projector and it's almost as good as being in a theater.
ReplyDeleteDid you see the latest Star Trek movie? That was good entertainment.
we enjoyed the documentary and life histories on netflix plus current movements that aren't R rated although some PG-13 are a little too wild for us. Watching a tv series from Britain right now called "The House of Elliot." It's like a mild soap opera but with interesting british characters. Invictus was good about Nelson Mandela.
ReplyDeleteI regularly sign up and drop Netflix. I always have good intentions but seldom stop long enough to watch a movie. I'm not big into movies but do enjoy documentaries and history programs.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy Netflix and I have their cheapest one, too. I'm not real fond of movies these days, but I love concerts and music. You can find almost anything, even old movies, concerts -- classical and pop and everything in between. It's pretty inexpensive entertainment and I really do enjoy it. Hope you find some good ones! Have a great week!

Sorry Kay, I haven't seen any good movies lately. Netflix sounds like such a good idea. Our son has it and has been trying to get us to sign up. Thanks for stopping by with your very sweet comment. I certainly enjoy my visits here.
ReplyDeleteJULIE AND JULIA, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams
ReplyDeleteKay;
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same problem. I am a memeber of netflix and when it comes to putting down movies that I want to read, I go blank.
We just watched the boy in the striped pajamas...it was just way to sad...I like happy endings too!!! Sorry, I was no help.
Julie & Julia - me too - we just watched for the second time
ReplyDeleteMen Who Stare at Goats - George Clooney and Jeff Bridges - very funny
the Last Station with Helen Mirren and Christopher Plummer - story of Leo Tolstoy
Death at a Funeral with Peter ?? (the little guy) - recommended by my neighbour who said, "I laughed so hard I peed my pants"
We've been down the Netflix road for a year now and can't seem to find time to watch the movies sometimes. I try to just look at the list of Acadamy Winners sometimes that helps and the family/Disney(my fav's). Good luck...oh and I loved Julie and Julia.
ReplyDeleteThis is so NOT a question for me. The most current movie I have seen was UP. We rarely turn on the TV and seldom check out the coming crop of movies.
ReplyDeleteWe have had a Netflix account for several years, the basic one. I find it helps when Netflix asks us to rate the movie we just had out and then they give "suggestions" that I might otherwise not think about. I love watching "Thirty Something" on my laptop, its thru Netflix.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch movies much either. I like regular TV too much. Every now and then a movie comes out that I think I might like, but I rarely get around to watching it.
ReplyDeleteWe're working our way through the Monk season. Monk is the obsessive compulsive homicide detective who always solves the case. It's just the remedy for tired brains.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a movie person, so can't recommend anything I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteFunny, I just had a conversation this weekend about horror/thriller films -- people say 'it's just a movie so no reason to be scared'. Pfft! I feel like, if I'm going to invest two hours of my time and five bucks or more of my cash, then I want the suspension of disbelief that makes the experience *real*. And I don't want to pay money and time for a bad experience -- my life has plenty of those! I'll pay money to laugh, however. I want to laugh during a movie, and feel good as I'm walking away. So, no horror for me either thanks! I have a rough enough time when Bambi's Mom falls down.
:-(
THE JAPANESE WIFE (Indian movie with English subtitles, though the protagonists do speak English). It's a haunting love story.
ReplyDeleteLast movie I saw "That's Complicated" with Meryl Streep. All of her movies are good.
ReplyDeleteWe like movies but don't see that many. We get movies through Comcast cable On Demand, but I am not impressed with the choices. So many movies are just junk.
