A Whopper of Calories!

I was looking through my Boy Scout Makahiki Book and found a coupon for a Free Whopper with Purchase of a Sandwich Value Meal. We decided to go to Burger King and get it just for fun since we hadn't gone fast food in quite awhile. Art said he could use the calories since he's been training for the Honolulu Marathon again.

It was quite tasty and we enjoyed it. However, as we were leaving the place I happened to notice a big poster listing all the calories, fat, etc. in each item being sold. The Whopper had 660 calories. The medium fries had 400 calories. I don't remember what the unsweetened ice tea had. Probably not much, I would think.

Art said running a mile would burn 100 calories. Since he's probably run 10 miles he's OK. Let's see. I walked a couple blocks. Sigh... Not good.

Wait... wait... I did clean two bathrooms yesterday. I wonder how many calories that burned.

Sigh... I guess it's going to be another good long while before we do fast food again!

  1. I just have to have a fast food fix about once a week. But find I don't need 3 meals/day when I do. We can't live each moments focused on calories just keep it all in balance and GO FOR A WALK! LOL!!

  2. Isn't it depressing that a burger and fries amounts to almost a full day's allotment of calories? It ain't fair! It just ain't fair!

  3. It's very hard to eat healthy when eating fast food. Like Lin, sometimes I just have to have a fast food fix. Isn't it sad how quickly we become addicted to fast food? We just have to keep those splurges to a minimum.

  5. Thank goodness we don't have any fast food places in our little town. However, that doesn't mean to don't visit them when we go "out of town"! I try to have a salad and bottled water but the hubby does love those big ole greasy burgers! I guess once in a while is o.k. But do we really need fast food that comes in humungous proportions and soda served in half-gallon containers??

  6. Ditching the fast food was the best thing in my life but I do lapse once in awhile. Sad.

  7. It's okay once in a while - after all, 'a little of what you fancy does you good' ;-)
I envy you being able to grow pineapples - how wonderful!

  11. those Whoppers are dangerous, Kay. I usually have the occasional hamburger from McD's they're not bad on calories but it doesn't seem to be quite enough for lunch!

  16. Well, I hold the mayo or sauce. Does that help? Actually I don't go for fast food that much. I prefer big fat burgers from a slower place, where I can ask for them my way, with avacado and pepper jack cheese and bacon and... They probably have even more calories!
You can have a 1000 calories, as long as you don't eat much else that day. And I never finish the fries.

  17. I don't eat fast food very often just for that reason-too many calories. Isn't it amazing how many calories are in that food! It does taste good every once in a while though.

  18. So true - when I take the kids for fast food I just have a coffee, and eat when I get home!

  19. Not to mention the sodium level is very high in fast food :( But we break down every once in a while, like when we dropped the car off the other night and McDonald's was right next door. All in moderation I guess and it's nice to have a treat once in a while.
