I was up late last night so I figured I'd sleep in this morning. It's 6:24 AM right now. About 15 minutes ago a blaring siren went off.
I'd heard that there was an 8.8 earthquake in Chile last night but people didn't seem too panicked. They said there could be a tsunami but the voice of the "expert" in Hawaii sounded pretty bland.
When the siren woke me, I turned on the TV and I'm hearing the broadcasters saying constantly not to panic and to remember the aloha spirit. Tourists are being told to go up to the 4th floor or higher. The first waves are supposed to reach the Big Island by 11:19 and Oahu by 11:52.

This is sounding awfully serious. I hope it ends up being nothing but...
KAY! I just saw this on MSN, turned on CNN and immediatley thought of you and Art. From memory of piccies you've taken I know you're on higher ground, so hopefully very safe. But I'm praying for everyone under the warning that this is just sensible precaution being exercised.
ReplyDeleteWaking up to that siren must be as scary as us waking up to the air raid siren.
ReplyDeleteI heard the warning for Hawaii on the radio and immediately thought of you and Cloudia and Gigi and all.
May the tsunami never come.
Praying for the safety of all in dear Hawaii and hoping for quick help to the victims in Chile.
We await your next post, dear Kay!
OMG! How scary! Kay, you and Art are in my thoughts today. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I read on-line the news of the earthquake and the warnings for Hawaii I thought of you, Art and your mom and family. I am praying that all will be safe and sound! Take care.
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought of you and your family. Let's hope for the best situation.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a scary thought, my college roomate is from Hilo, I've already spoken to her and she says, 'oh, it's okay, we aren't in the Tsunami territory' Well, I've been there, and I think I am more scared than her :( Blessings to all and I do hope it turns out to be minor
ReplyDeleteKay, I will be thinking of you today. Living all my life in Texas I well remember the first tsunami warning sign I saw on the Oregon Coast. Scared me, and I've bee on tsunami alert ever since. I'm hoping for a safe day for you and yours today.
ReplyDeleteKay;
ReplyDeleteHope all is safe where you are.
Was up early myself watching the news!
Mother nature is rearing up again.
Are the sirens like the ones the medwest gets when a tornado is close? Scary stuff to wake up too.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in the Ring of fire area.
I pray all will be ok!
ReplyDeleteBe safe, Kay.
I was very comforted to see your post because it was like hearing from you!! Like the others who have commented before me, you were the first person I thought of and I hope you remain safe and sound!! GBYAKYS: My Aunt Frances used to say that all the time. It is the shortened version of: God Bless You and Keep You Safe.
ReplyDeleteI can only repeat what the others have said. I will keep you, and other friends in Hawaii in my prayers.
ReplyDelete:-(
ReplyDeleteStay safe!
Funny thing? My word verification below is "bless". Someone's looking out for you perhaps!
I hope the tsunami comes to nothing too, or at least as little as possible.
Now I'm thinking of all the people I've heard about who live on tents on the beach... OMG. And the sewer system's vulnerability. OMG again! You're in my thoughts and prayers today.
Well, you are every day, but extra now.
Oh, Kay, my thoughts are with you all! I've had some computer problems and while I did hear about the Quake in Chile, I didn't learn of the danger to Hawaii until just an hour or so ago. I am praying for all of you! Take care, my friend, much love to you all!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
