I have pretty much spent the day scanning. I've finished one photo album between 1948 to 1963 and I'm exhausted. I'm sorry to admit that I'm glad we were too poor to have our own camera in those old days. I'm not doing my mother's pre 1948 photos yet because I know my brother will want to adjust the scanner to handle those photos with more care.
I did scan this photo of me with my parents and grandmother (paternal). It was a rare photo taken in a studio. I was the first born so they probably wanted to document it. I think it's rather interesting to see the fashion of the time. My mother sewed all my clothes in those days, right down to the underwear.

Here's my kindergarten class. Can you guess which kid I am? Clue: Even back then, I had to be a teeny bit different. Perhaps I didn't understand the photographer when he told the kids to stand tall and look straight ahead. I think this was the first and last time I was in the middle row. After this, I was always smack dab in the front. Sigh... I guess my growth spurt came much later.
Answer: I'm in the middle row, third from the right.
The only trouble with technology is that it soon becomes obsolete. Remember when video tapes were superseded by DVDs and we rushed to have them transferred to DVDs, because our VCRs no longer worked?
ReplyDeleteWhat will replace DVDs and scanners???
That's why we should never throw out the original photos, no matter how worn...
What a little cutie you were!
ReplyDeleteI love old photographs, but I haven't been able to put in a whole day scanning yet! An hour or two at a time is plenty.
ReplyDeleteThat studio photo is fantastic! Your Mom is so pretty in it, and dig that double-breasted suit on your Dad! I wonder what our grandkids will think of our clothes, looking back...
Spotted you *right away* in that class photo btw LOL My son has the same talent!
nice black n white photos!
ReplyDeletegreat photos, be sure and back up your digital files probably twice. An external hard drive is one way and on the internet makes them available for other comptuer literate family and friends. I can find you in the photos what a cute little girl with a look of mischievousness in her eyes..
ReplyDeletewhat lovely photos, great quality scans too. You're so organized.
ReplyDeleteWhat a precious photo of the four generations! I´m glad you have this as a reminder of your grandmother. I started to scan my mom´s photos a while ago too, but can´t seem to find the time to finish it...
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos! I know it's a big job, but I bet you're having fun with all the memories! You are such a cutie and I spotted you in the middle of the first row immediately! Have a scanning good weekend, Kay!

I especially enjoyed the studio photo. Our daughter-in-law is Japanese and the wedding was in Japan. In all the photos her mother had her hands folded nicely in her lap and her father had a hand on each leg, near the knee, and no one is smiling. Much more formal than American studio pictures.
ReplyDeleteYou were a cute kids! Love that shrug. At least you weren't the girl will the full on frown!
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful photos! I finally learned that same "tilt" of the head for pictures! It makes the photo much more fun, than just standing straight, facing front. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your dad's hair! I've seen hair worn like that these days. Ah, styles do come full circle.
I love your kindergarten picture-how cute!!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the photo of you and your parents I thought how much KC looks like you! Your class photo is so cute.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at old photos and I wouldn't have guessed you.. I admire you for scanning..I do need to do that..
ReplyDeleteWhat great photos! You are having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are absolutely priceless, just love these photos Kay. What treasures they are and you were an adorable little girl.I need to get back to all our old photos. I did very well for a while but now must get back to them.
ReplyDeleteYour mum is quite alluring. Wish I had been around in those days!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have picked you in the class photo without the clues. Not even if I hadn't spent more time gazing at the teacher instead of the class.
I love all the pictures and I did guess right, you can tell by the picture above it. Don't you just love school pictures any way. Have a great week.
ReplyDeletebare foot was the style back then. No Nike.
ReplyDeleteWow, what history. Great photos to treasure.
ReplyDeleteI spotted you right away. I have seen that head-tilt before! Cute.
How does it not hurt to go barefoot?
I saw boys walking the trail in Ein Gedi with no shoes.
Oh Kay! This is adorable!!!! What a cute little girl!!!! What a project to scan all of those photo's. I should probably do that also. You gave me something to think about . . . not sure I want to think about that undertaking . . . but thank you for the thought!!
