Most of the photos are yellowed and faded.

The scanner was able to autofix the photo, but it was still rather faded with unsightly ink seepage.

So... I asked my brother for his expertise and LOOK what he did on Photoshop! I am so blown away!

I LOVE hearing from you!

I apologize for having to use Word Verification occasionally, but the SPAM is making me crazy.
what a SUPER brother! I hope he was a patient TEACHER, too!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is amazing. Your brother could get a full-time job photoshopping old photos for us, honestly.
ReplyDeleteAll of us will have piles of old family photos in similar condition.
ReplyDeleteI know I have.
AND I have TONNES of old colour slides. Tonnes of them!
Perhaps I could do 7 per week or something, & get through them all by the time I reach retirement age...!
It's pretty amazing, yep.
ReplyDeleteThe two little sisters are so cute. They were brave to live there.
Wow how clever is your brother (which doesnt surprise me) - the photo looks amazing. And how cute is your mother and aunty - an adorable picture. I hope your brother teaches you some photoshopping techniques and you can tell us all about it too. By the way your header photo is superb too.
ReplyDeleteYou're so lucky to have him. I have a few I would love to see restored.
ReplyDeletewhat a difference. try picnik.com upload a photo and then play around with fixing or editing it. It's an easier photoshop and free. I made a great collage for my children's book on it-easier than with my photoshop program.
ReplyDeletealso slides can be digitizes at your local costco or walmart store for about 28 cents and they will put them on a cd for you. sure saves time when doing slides.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly the reason Tom wanted PhotoShop and it learning to use it. He has a extensive collection of old photos and photocopies of old photos that need cleaning up.
ReplyDeleteYour brother did a phenomenal job with that beautiful photo!! I have Photoshop Elements and really need to spend some time playing with it. I am so impressed with the things you can do.
ReplyDeletethat is so amazing and good to know.
ReplyDeleteWow! What a difference! That's a wonderful invention!
ReplyDeleteWow, that is amazing. Perhaps I should look into Photoshop.
ReplyDeleteGigi: He has tried to teach me several times but it's really difficult. I can do easy fixes but what he did required a lot more expertise.
ReplyDeleteJean: I really think he could start a business restoring old photos but I think he likes his job at the police photo lab.
Steve: We have tons of photo slides, too. Believe me. I'm not even going to look at those. The Epson printer is able to print slides as well as film.
Dina: They really are cute, aren't they? The family lived a distance away in Kaunakakai. My grandfather traveled by horse to Kalaupapa which is in a secluded area. He was definitely brave and my grandmother said she was always worried that he would contract the disease.
Lilly: Thanks, Lilly. I'm afraid I've only learned the rudimentary skills of using Photoshop. Dennis admitted that you do have to use it all the time to remember the steps to doing the different procedures.
Bobbie: It's always great to have a talented and KIND brother. Thank goodness I have one.
Lin: Thanks so much, Lin. For now though, I'm just giving my brother the photos that I need help with. It's taking up so much of my time. Happily, my scanner does slides as well. I just don't want to deal with that right now.
Linda: It REALLY helps to take a class on this. There is no MUCH to learn.
Joyce: It does require a lot of trying and playing with to learn how to use this program. There's a whole LOT of stuff it can do if you just knew how.
Christine: I'm in awe of what it can do but as I told Joyce, you really have to know how to do it.
Janie B: I really LOVE it! I can't wait to see several of the others restored.
Linda: It's great, Linda but you have to understand that it isn't easy. It would help to take a class on using it.
That is fantastic!!! Looks as though that photo could have been taken yesterday! I hear so much about Photoshop and I would love to have it and give it a try, but just don't think I have the smarts to do anything like this! Hope you have a great week with lots more scanning!!!
ReplyDeleteSylvia
What a MARVELOUS old photo and how fortunate you are to have a brother with Photoshop skills! Isn't technology wonderful ;-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your scanning ...
Hugs and blessings,
Sylvia: I've done most of the scanning. Now it's the organizing, restoring, compiling memories, more organizing.
ReplyDeleteStoryteller: I am SO very VERY lucky to have my brother. And I do count him as one of my blessings.
I've used it to brighten old photos and it works great!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't hard to learn.
By horse, wow.
ReplyDeleteDo you think your grandfather had some miraculous protection?
What a wonderful gift, that you & your son are able to restore these photos almost back to the original photo! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks really good.
ReplyDeleteI´m planning something similar this year. My parents celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary and I want to make a power point with old photos. I wish I could hire your brother... :)
I am so amazed by the difference in the first and last photos! Wow, your brother IS a genius! And what a lovely photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful result of a much treasured photo.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable pair they were; I love this photo -- how marvelous that you and your brother are bringing these back! It would be such a shame to lose family photos like this.
ReplyDeleteYes photoshop and someone who can operate it, are truly a god-send at times! Adorable piccie too.
ReplyDeleteTerrific! What a pleasant surprise!
