Art was supposed to be the achy, tired, in pain person after the Marathon. However, with advice from his e-mail mentor, Ed (who is the ex-Marathoner husband of my super teacher friend, Gerri) is up and running again. Think Energizer bunny. Ed advised Art to soak his legs in epsom salts at night before bed-time and it really did the trick. Art is feeling great and thinking he might start his regular jogging program again this weekend. On the other hand, I came down with a ferocious cold the day after. I felt like a ton of bricks fell down on me. I haven't been very sick since I retired some 5 years ago. It's been the most amazing thing not to be sick once a year at least. However, that healthy streak is gone. I used my old remedy Alka Seltzer Cold Plus and chicken soup. This time I got the Alka Seltzer Cold Plus PM. I thought I could use a little sleep aid. I took it at lunch time yesterday thinking it would just let me nap a little. WRONG! It was really strong. I got knocked out for the afternoon. I took it at night and slept right through. On Monday night, Art actually videotaped me snoring. It's the first time he's heard me snore. I never snore. No, really. I never snore. Well, there you have it. I'm as tired as I've ever been, congested, coughing, mild headache and feel a little feverish though there's no fever. Yuuuck!
Then there's the other half of Art's Marathon Support Crew, my brother, Dennis. Dennis was getting up from a kneeling position on Sunday and managed to twist something behind his knee and injured it. He had to stay home from work yesterday. My sister-in-law was with him most of the time because she had a root canal that got infected. Yeeeowch!
So here's Art bouncing about the house and I'm going back to bed.
Oh the irony of it all...
Oh poor Kay. Get well soon.
ReplyDeleteOh dear Kay, I am so sorry you are sick. Sending a virtual hug here and hope your brother's injury heals fast too. By the way, well done on being a fantastic support group to Art. Three cheers but I'm cheering quietly so I don't hurt that head that I know must be aching :)
ReplyDeleteAw... I hope you get well quickly! I love all of those Alka Seltzer meds, they always work well for me.
ReplyDeleteSo, are we going to get to see Art's video? ;) Feel Better.
Rest, Kay!
ReplyDeleteAloha, neighbor
Comfort Spiral
Sorry to see you are still sick. Hope you recover in no time at all.
ReplyDeleteThat Art is simply amazing! Where does he get his energy from? What's his secret?
First, I hope you're feeling much better soon.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I'm amazed to hear Art is up and at it already. I assumed anyone who ran 26 miles would be bed-ridden for at least a week afterwards.
Third, I'm a firm believer in Alka Seltzer Plus, too. I've never tried the PM version, though. It sounds as if it packs a wallop!
Oh, I do hope you feel better quickly, Kay! It is so miserable to be sick! Hope you and your brother get well quickly! Glad Art is doing so well, does help to have a great support team, which he had for the Marathon!
ReplyDeleteTake care,
Sylvia
OMG, that would be funny if it happened to someone else! But since it's you, I hope you and Dennis feel better soon!
ReplyDeleteArt's running and round-the-world trekking (and the fact that he looks more like 45 than 65) made up our minds that for our 'steel' anniversary, we'd get a treadmill. We did, and we're all on it every day, even the kids. I'm on for an hour a day (gives me a good excuse to watch Star Trek without feeling lazy LOL) and already I'm feeling a big difference.
So, thanks Art! And Kay, get well soon--don't miss Christmas!
Poor Kay is right! So sorry you are not feeling well.
ReplyDelete(A video of kay snoring,...will that be playing soon!)
Hope your brother is better and his wife too... hate teeth problems!
Get a lot of rest kay!!!!
he truly is the energizer bunny-oh well he can at least take care of you...which doesn't include video taping you snoring. lol! get well soon.
ReplyDeleteget well soon, Kay. Yes, it's so ironic.
ReplyDeleteOh KAy I hope you are up and feeling better soon! Lucky Art out ran all those germs!
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you are ill. Get well soon -- eat chicken soup! Sleep is good; keep that up. You don't want this hanging around during the holidays.
ReplyDeleteOh how awful that the Support Team is down! I do hope you are feeling much better, as well as your brother and his wife. And Art is running already? Jeez...that would have put me into bed for weeks! Take care and rest up.
ReplyDeleteI hope you feel better soon, Kay! That sucks to be sick around Christmas!
ReplyDeleteDina: Thanks, Dina. I'm trying, I'm trying. Art keeps asking me every half hour how I'm feeling.
ReplyDeleteDenise: Thank you for the hug, Denise. It's a weird feeling to have everything outside so BRIGHT and cheery looking while I'm feeling so yucky.
Dez: NO ONE will hear that video. Actually, he was doing it in the dark so it's a dark screen with me snoring. At least it was a consistent snore, not like his that rise to a crescendo.
Cloudia: I hate enforced rest. Sigh.... But I am.
Gigi: Art's secret? I already know. He carefully watches what he eats and he exercises everyday. He also makes sure he gets his 8 hours of sleep a night. It's not unusual to see him go to bed at 8:00 at times.
Jean: The Alka Seltzer PM really did pack a whallop (for me)! I could actually feel the fog coming on.
Sylvia: Thanks, Sylvia. I'm not on the upswing yet. My brother says he's a bit better today. And Art? Still going and going and going.
Susan: It made Art feel really happy to know you're all keeping healthy on a treadmill. I have my Nordic Track which hasn't gotten much use. I need to put it where I can watch a movie, too.
Peggy: Nancy is on antibiotics so I think she's on the upswing. My brother will need to be careful he doesn't reinjure his knee. And me...more chicken soup.
Lin: To be perfectly honest, he was probably getting even. I taped him snoring some 20 years ago. LOL
Christine: It really is quite funny. I'll laugh when I feel better.
Quilly: There's a LOT of truth to what you say.
Janie: You're right! I've got so much to do and more so as the holidays get closer. Arrrghhh!
Cheryl: How funny... it IS putting me in bed, isn't it? Doggone it!
ReplyDeleteBetty: I have so much to do. I have so much to do!!!! Yiiiikes!
Mend quickly and well, Kay!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that Art recovered so quickly and hope you do too Kay. I am glad it isn't one of the really nasty bugs..I just got an H1N1 vaccine as I am in the 'high risk' group which is kind of disturbing. Have you had your flu vaccines?
ReplyDeleteGet well soon...i think it is the mental stress too which added to your sickness, you were so worried about him. Please get well very soon.My regards.
ReplyDeletegood grief! Well, I guess it makes sense that the runner is the healthy one.
ReplyDeleteTake care.
Kay feel better soon! Sorry Dennis got injured too! Atleast Art is peppy-he can take care of everyone!!! How is your Mom doing?
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you're down with the lurgy Kay, keep taking lots of Vitamin C. I know what you mean about the lessening of illness once you retire from teaching, it's quite noticeable. I swear by hot water with honey and the juice of half a lemon each day, more often if I get a sniffle - and a small tot of whisky in it, if you can take alcohol, would help you sleep.
ReplyDeleteKay: I sure am trying. I do have a bit more shopping to do and then there's the holiday dinner to plan for....
ReplyDeleteMichelle: I've had the seasonal flu vaccine but not the H1N1. I think they're only giving it to children and pregnant people so far in Hawaii.
Kavita: I will tell Art about that mental stress part that he put me through. However, I think it was also the "freezing" damp while watching the surf meet earlier in the week.
Linda: You know... he is really quite healthy (knock on wood) and I do believe exercise and eating properly and getting his rest has a great deal to do with it. His family history is not so good so he's got to make up for the genes this way.
Sherri: He's trying his best by taking over a lot of the food preparation and helping my mom.
Amanda: Hmmm... whisky? I'll mention that one to Art. We do have a lemon tree so I could try that next. Thanks a bunch!
I hope you are feeling better, winter colds seem to be the worst. I hoe your brother Dennis knee is much better and getting infection from a root canal can be awful painful. I hope you all get better and I am wishing you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Art runs so fast the germs can't catch him.
ReplyDeleteMargaret: Thanks, Margaret. I'm hoping we're all in the upswing before the weekend.
ReplyDeleteDina: There might be more truth to that than we imagined.
