These Boots Were Made for Line Dancing

I was out at the Waikele Outlet Mall yesterday because Art needed to buy some energy type gels for his running.

Anyway, while there I thought I'd check out the Factory Brand Shoes Outlet to see if they had some athletic shoes that I've been looking for. I bought a pair a while ago and discovered that when I walked downhill especially, my toe would bang against the front of my shoe. It was rather annoying. My daughter had been warning me that I should buy a larger size for jogging. Since I don't jog, I didn't think it would bother me. Still, I really love these shoes otherwise so I'd like to buy a larger size. Art is always wanting me to exercise so he'll insist I buy 100 shoes if it'll get me outside walking.

Well, I didn't find the athletic shoes I wanted but I found something else. I decided to check out boots for my friend, Diane who needs a better pair of boots for line dancing. She's a size 6. I can fit into a 6.5 or 7. You have NO idea just how difficult it is to find a boot that is FLAT with a smooth leather outsole. However, there it was in the clearance section calling me! Hallelujah! Flat. Smooth, leather, non rubber outsole. Size 7! I'll be spinning forever in these. It fit me perfectly. I hunted and hunted for another pair in Diane's size but there weren't any. If there were, it would have capped our outing perfectly. I'll have to keep looking for another pair for Diane but I'm so excited about mine. It was marked at $89.00, down to $50.00 with a 25% off tag. I left the store paying $39.27 which included the tax! Oh happy days!

This is all fine and dandy but knowing my penchant for breaking and spraining my ankles and feet I can't wear these boots anywhere else because the bottoms are so slippery.

All this brings me to wondering WHO the heck buys boots in Hawaii anyway? I never see anybody wearing them (except at line dancing). It's too hot! So why are they selling them everywhere? Strange...

  1. Congrats on those nifty boots, Kay, and at such a great price.

You do ask a good question, too: WHY do shoe stores in Hawaii sell boots, of all things??

  2. Congratulations on the boots--just your size AND on sale, what wonderful luck! Diane has such a good friend; I hope she finds hers soon too.

I laughed out loud at your last lines -- in Ireland there's always sunblock for sale during the summer, and why?? Even on the hottest days (we get up to 70 when we're lucky) the sun isn't very strong; we're very very north. Sometimes you want to go to a shopkeeper and ask, "Do you know where you ARE??" LOL

  3. Nice boots. Seems like just yesterday you were shlepping around in that boot-cast; and now you're back to dancing. Great.
    Nice price too.
"Winter" finally came to Jerusalem. The weather said it would be 15 C or 59 F. Everyone was wearing sweaters, jackets, scarves, high boots. I couldn't understand them. I was boiling in just a warm shirt. The sun was so warm and the buses were stifling.

Funny, today I actually looked at shoe shop windows for the first time in years. I don't have one pair of smooth soles like yours, and after coming home one wet day with my hiking boot soles all clogged with mud and dog doo (pyoo!) and having to pick it out with a screwdriver, I started thinking about smooth soles.
Wish we could go shopping together and you could convince me to buy something.

  4. What nice boots and at a great price to boot :) I have heard of using sandpaper to rough up the soles of shoes, maybe this would take some of the slickness from them.

  5. they are selling them cause they are fashionable and people buy them. like you. lol! congrats!

  6. Jean: The only answer I can come up with is people might buy them to wear on the mainland or maybe it's just for tourists. I imagine if I wore these around anywhere with my shorts and tank tops, people might stare at me like I was slightly deranged.

Susan: I'll have to keep my eyes open for Diane because the boots she has right now are very ill fitting.

Sun block, eh? Well, they do say the sun's UVs goes through clouds but gosh, I never used sun block in Illinois in fall or winter.

Dina: There's a reason why they don't make smooth outsoles anymore. The rubber bottoms are safer. The smooth outsoles are more dangerous, I imagine. However, for dancing, they need to be smooth so you can make the turns without straining your ankles.

Cheryl: The thing is... I have to keep them smooth for line dancing so I don't strain my ankles. However, if I ever wore these in Illinois over ice, I'd be skating.

Lin: Definitely not fashionable. My outfits in Hawaii consists of faded tank tops over shorts. Seriously, nobody wears boots in Hawaii but there are boot sales everywhere. Go figure.

  7. Ha! Wednesday morning, I was at Macy's and bought a pair of Australian sheepskin and wool lined boots for my trip to Mauna Kea, where it is freezing even in August. It was on sale for $90. Great buy!

Unfortunately, the Institute for Astronomy plans to go to the observatories on Haleakala next year. It isn't that cold as it is not as high up. But in 2011, a trip to the observatories on Mauna Kea will be scheduled, so I will wear my new boots then.

  8. Super! What a treat! That doesn't happen too often! Right size and right price! Amazing -- these days! And, yes, I do wonder why they stock boots in Hawaii????

Have a great day, Kay! And dance away in your new boots! Perfect!

  9. Gigi: Aha! Now I know who buys those boots.

Sylvia: What's more there aren't all that many line dancers over here either. I'm doing it for the exercise and to keep my forgetful brain working. And there aren't all that many people going up to Mauna Kea like Gigi either.

  10. It might be the reason some aunts own automobiles and can't drive. I wear house slippers most of the time. It is so familiar that I do wear them to places we shop. It is what feels good to me that counts.

  11. Kay, our first winter here we went to [famous name shoe store] to buy Amoeba sandals, and all they had were winter boots. We just about died laughing -- until several stores later we still had no sandals. We finally bought a pair of reef shoes t hold him until March. Right afterward I found sandals in Waikiki.

  12. Abraham Lincoln: When it comes to footware, it is all about feeling good to me. I absolutely refuse to wear heels.

Quilly: Isn't that beyond absurd? I would recommend the Outlet Mall at Waikele. They had a nice selection of all kinds of footware (including boots, LOL).

  13. Those are very snazzy boots Kay and a great bargain at that. I know you're going to have many happy hours twirling in them.

  14. Nice boots Kay! I guess they were there just waiting for you to buy them!! Enjoy!

  15. Denise: They're so slippery you can really twirl! Can you imagine what they'd do on ice?

Sherri: Sometimes things just work out. Sigh...

  16. maybe that's why they were on clearance Kay, nobody needs them! Don't like the sound of slippery bottoms, one fall is all it takes whatever your age.

  17. Well, here in TX we wear them everyday (well the guys mostly); BUT, Everyone who goes dancing wears boots. My favorite boots are Ropers. I have 3 pairs, one in green and other in red, and black. But we don't line dance here, here we TWOSTEP, Polka, and Waltz! Yes, the boots have to be slick to dance. But, once you dance a while, they will scuff up some and you won't slip, but they still slide across the floor nicely! I Love my Boots!

  22. My daughter came back from living in Oklahoma with two pairs of cowboy boots..the everyday and the special. Nobody wore tennis shoes out there. Those are fine looking boots..I am so happy that your foot got better so you could enjoy the line dancing again...

  23. Christine: You're probably very right. I wish they had another one for Diane though.

Dez: I wish it were cooler so I could wear the boots with jeans instead of my shorts. Sigh...

    Cloudia: Ummmm... what are UGGS?

Mare: The sale part was the capper for the deal. :-)

Line Dancing Girl: Hi there, nice to meet you. I should let you know this is my 3rd BEGINNING line dancing class. Someday I'll graduate.

Michelle: Over here, it's pretty much all flip flops, sandals, tennis shoes. In fact we're constantly warned that flip flops aren't very good for our feet.

  24. I truly doubt it's much cooler in south Florida but Rachel wears boots here practically everyday. It's a fashion statement which she loves. Now many other girls are wearing boots too. She just loves to be a trendsetter. Ah youth!

You got a fantastic deal and you will just love it when you do wear them!!

  25. I hope you have happy, dancin' feet.

  26. Joyce: It's amazing to me how people can wear them in hot weather. It was hot wearing them to line dancing tonight.

Linda: My feet weren't too happy tonight. Doggone it! There wasn't enough padding on the inner soles. I'm going to have to replace it with those gel soles.

  27. I love 'em! When we visited cousins in Texas years ago, they took us to a little country dancing place, and loaned us some boots. They were so comfortable that I ordered some when I got home. I hardly ever wear them, but they are just great. The brand name is Justin.

  28. Nan: They are a lot of fun. I have a feeling we won't have Justins here in Hawaii.
