Early Christmas Tree

It just goes to show you that I don't remember what we packed in our boxes when we shipped them to Hawaii after all. I guess I had more ornaments than I remembered and I see why. I couldn't bear to part with a single ornament that my own children or students gave me through the years. I'd written the names on the ornaments of the child who presented me with the beautiful holiday gift.

As we set the tree up and placed each ornament, it brought back countless memories of sweet and loving faces through the years. There are also ornaments that my children made out of paper and ribbon with the year they made it. I'm going to ask Tif to have KC make one too.

Well, now that's done I can concentrate on Thanksgiving on Saturday.

  1. You have inspired me to make use of the ornaments I made myself more than 20 years ago! Maria told me my tree looked "boring" without them, so here goes!

  2. I love your tree!! I always use ornaments like yours and while it doesn't look as "perfect" as other "perfectly-themed" trees, it's perfect for us because it's our history, just like yours.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

  3. Wow. You are early with your tree. I'm glad you saved those meaningful ornaments.
I have so many ornaments that are meaningful - ornaments my kids made, ones that I made for our first trees, some I gave the kids for advent, some the kids collected (pigs, horses) during their collecting phase, some from students, some that reflect our hobbies, and many we've collected as souvenirs during our travels. I would have a hard time parting with any of them.

  8. That's what our tree looks like too, we even have two decorations left from my own mother's childhood. Mind you, we won't be putting ours up for another month probably, since we use a real tree and it wouldn't last us until Christmas if we put it up too soon.

  9. Maybe you have an olive wood ornament from Bethlehem?

  11. Beautiful tree! I had to laugh at this post, Kay; every year I try to weed out ornaments for a flea market sale and so many are by my kids, or made by my mother, or were gifts from friends no longer with us, or, or, or... LOL All irreplaceable!!

Good luck with the Thanksgiving preparations, too!

I can't get your mother out of my head. I hope she's feeling better, and getting well. I hope the dreams are just our own way of comforting us when we're down or ill, and mean no more than that. I hope this morning you're all doing fine.

  13. Lovely tree, Kay. Like you, we have kept all of our kids' homemade decorations over the years; it's what makes a tree special.
