My daughter says my son-in-law, Ed is a coffee snob...um... I mean connoisseur. He likes only a couple of different kinds of Kona coffee. One brand he likes is Lion 100% Kona. I can't remember what the other brand is and I don't think he remembers either since Lion is the only one we bring him. He made that decision after we once brought 6-7 different brands for him to try. Ed is also a regular Starbucks customer that Art feels is rarely fresh because he orders decaf which has usually been sitting too long and has a burnt flavor... not that he's particular, mind you.
This summer, Art admitted to serving Ed a mixture of different coffees and he didn't seem to notice. I'm thinking that if Ed did notice, he just didn't say so.
For our family get-togethers, Art serves a mixture of Dunkin' Donuts coffee with 100% Kona. When my aunts were here the last time they said Art's coffees were always fabulous. Art says he thinks the Dunkin' Donuts coffee is very good and he does like his coffee... BLACK. I like mine as mocha (1/3 chocolate milk) so he says my opinion doesn't count. (He meant it's not as accurate.)
One of my cousins swears by Costco Kona coffee which Art says is OK. I find it all so humorous.
Why not try my mocha? Then you don't have to worry about what kind of coffee brand to buy. Then again, you do want real chocolate milk. I wouldn't want to get skim or soy. I'd like at least 1% and you need a bit of crushed ice and....
I make ICE COFFEE every morning with Lion's Original Coffee (International Blend, medium roast), ice cubes, and skim milk. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI used to like Lion's Hazel Nut Coffee, which was very good. Maybe one of these days, I'll switch back to hazel nut.
This post is so funny; I love it! I like chocolate in my coffee too.
ReplyDeleteWe still talk about the Kona coffee you sent us. Before the first pot was finished my husband said "God, our coffee is s--t"... he's right! America *definitely* has a better range of choice than we do, and Kona's the best either of us ever tasted. We tried Dunkin' Donuts coffee in West Virginia and liked that too. Our daughter's going to bring us some when she comes home for Christmas; I can't wait.
I don't drink coffee at all, so have no idea what is the best coffee available here in the UK. I've bought Christopher a 'bean to cup' coffee machine for Christmas, so no doubt he'll be experimenting then.
ReplyDeleteYou guys are funny.
ReplyDeleteEver try Turkish coffee with a pinch of cardamon? Smells great.
The best coffee I have ever had was in Antigua, West Indies. Of course its not available here. I am a big fan on Dunkin Donut flavored coffee and treat myself to one when I go to Wal-Mart, as the DD is located right there. I shall have to try your mocha coffee Kay.
ReplyDeleteI love the smell of coffee but don't drink it. Didn't like the taste of it plus I'm a Mormon...but I do like mint hot chocolate sugar free of course.
ReplyDeleteKay, I've never tried adding chocolate milk to my coffee, I think I will try that sometime, thanks for the tip. But usually just a bit of cream does it for me.
ReplyDeleteHmm... I'm not a coffee drinker, but I've always heard Dunkin' Donut's coffee is the best! I think my DH is just like your son-in-law. I'll have to look for Kona and mix the two! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat giggles this evening, Kay, and just what I needed on this gray evening!! However, I can't contribute much because I rarely if ever drink coffee, but I do find it interesting how people really do get into their coffee/brands/etc.
ReplyDeleteGuess I'll have to try it again one of these days!
Have a great day!
Sylvia
My son-in-law is a coffee snob, hooked on dark roast Starbucks. But he makes it very strong and adds milk and sweetner, so how does he know???
ReplyDeleteMy daughter has become a tea snob, going for expensive, exotic, fruity teas.
My son is a beer snob, with a palate for select microbrews. There are plenty to choose from here in Seattle.
For the other two, coffee and tea make good gifts, since they live in a small town in Eastern Colorado with NO STARBUCKS!
Now I want a good cup of coffee, LOL!
ReplyDeleteAloha, Friend!

This post made me chuckle. Gigi just turned me on to Lion Coffee and I like it -- but like you, I drink mocha so just about any coffee will do.
ReplyDeleteYour iced coffee sounds like something I need right now! I´m up way too early again.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I like mine black too.
I love how Art fooled your son in law with the different kinds of coffee. I do that to my husband sometimes. I hates onions, but I smuggle them into the foods I make regularly.... :)
I think many of us are like that with our favourite drink. I don't care about everyday tea: supermarket's value range or some PG Tips, it's all the same to me. BUT:I drink Earl Grey tea and it HAS to be Twinings.
ReplyDeleteYou made me smile on a very wet morning; thank you.
Kay,how interesting !!I liked the way Art makes his coffee.Coffee smell makes me binge on chocolate cakes, pastries for an unknown reason.I am a big time tea-lover,like your son-in -law i too have my preferences...on trips i carry my own tea leaves and convince the hotel-staff to use it for our tea and i love it sugarless.
ReplyDeleteCoffee for us is reserved only for special occasions and that too the rich version....i add little milk and coarse sugar to the instant coffee powder and beat or whip it with hands till it reaches a creamy consistency...i add one heap full of this mix to each cup and pour hot full cream milk over it,stir it a little and sprinkle lots of chocolate powder on it....yummmzzyyyy .My otherwise calorie conscious hub loves to dip a chunk of chocolate bar on it alongside( like a biscuit).
CORRECTION.....whip it with a spoon in my hand.
ReplyDeleteGreat post about coffee, which is my favourite drink at about ten AM. I drink always instant coffee when I am alone, but I brew coffee ,like you do, when I get visitors and the brand I use is always a Dutch brand, for there is nothing more to get here. It's either" Douwe Egberts"or "Van Nelle".
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit. You are right my house looks like an Ikea catalog, because we bought most of our furniture at Ikea's.
Well it's 10:36 AM I've just returned from my shopping and there is a very strong wind blowing I am going to have a cuppa!!Have a great day!
I do grind my own beans. I make sure I buy bird friendly, fair trade, shade grown coffee and grind it. Starbuck's plain coffee always has a burned taste as they over roast their beans. It doesn't matter in a latte or mocha, but it does if it's plain...
