Bed Update: More Troubles! Arrrghhhh!

First of all, yes, we knew that most people in Hawaii have the California King (longer, thinner) mattresses. However, we were told that Eastern King (shorter, wider) was available but that sheets were hard to find. We checked ahead and found that you could find the Eastern King sheets everywhere.

So we decided to get the Eastern King mattress (with bunkie boards for a lower profile)..... as you all know.

I had all these lovely plans of now finding JUUUUST the perfect zen-like bedroom set. Clean lines....light wood (so it doesn't show scratches)... low profile... platform... ahhhhhh....

We went to Homeworld, Honolulu. No platform bed suites for Eastern King. Well, they had one, I think but we both didn't like it.

We went to Rooms Hawaii. Nothing we liked. We didn't even check for platform suites there because there wasn't any style that grabbed us.

We went to C.S. Wo: Nada. Mostly ornate Asian.

We went to Homeworld, Aiea. Nada nada.

Went to Inspiration Furniture, Aiea: They had three bedroom set styles with an Eastern King platform bedframe. It's a very popular, modern styling type store but the bedroom furniture quality is pretty shoddy. Of the three, this one style was just OK... The price was good though.

We went to Honolulu Design Center today: It turned out to be the flagship store for Inspiration Furniture, Aiea. It had a lot more furniture but only three more designs which were sort of like Ikea particle board but 4 times the price.

Remembering how I've been known to change my mind, Art is reluctant to buy juuuust yet. He wants to take one more trip to Rooms Hawaii just to see if there might be a possibility there that we missed.

And then... that's it! Decision time. It's not like we've got many choices here.

  1. Good luck, Kay. You inspire me to want something better for my bed. However, there are so many other demands on our wallet. How can we possibly afford all of it?

We still have to pay for our new draperies and our new leather reclining sofa.

  3. Wow, Kay, what a lot of shopping. At least you and Art are agreed on what you want: my husband and I have completely different ideas when it comes to decorating which is a whole 'nother problem.

Good luck finding something nice that fits, and good luck to Art that he doesn't end up making it himself! LOL

  6. O.K. I am thinking maybe the perfect solution for the bed problem would be for Art to build you a platform bed! Problem solved.

  8. Have you shopped online? I typed in Japanese bedroom furniture and came up with all sorts of stuff I would trade my bed that we bought in 1955, for.

    Wow. Check this one out...

  15. Gigi: I wouldn't wish this shopping on anybody. Yuuuck!

Kavita: I'm needing some zen meditation to get through getting settled in Hawaii.

Susan: If he had to make just the bed, I could see Art wondering about making it himself. I wouldn't put it past him. But we need a complete bedroom set with dresser, nightstands, etc. Sigh.

Wenn: I sure do have a nice husband.

Lin: We have a headboard in the guestroom. We're working on the master bedroom now.

Cheryl: If it were just the bed instead of the whole bedroom suite, I could see that.

Peggy: Isn't it such a pain?

Abraham: I've been very hesitant about shopping on-line for this or anything else. A lot of places won't ship to Hawaii and is they do you have to give up your first born child to pay for shipping. HOWEVER, this afternoon... I'm considering it and tried out a place in Colorado to see what it would cost. Thank you for your suggestion. We'll see what happens.

Dez: Thanks, Dez. I'm waiting to see what the on-line shipping cost would be.

Caryn: Serenity... ah yes... I can't wait. Once we get this done, our big purchases for settling in Hawaii will be almost over.

Betty: Well, you've hit the nail on the head. You do want it to last. The furniture we've seen so far seem so flimsy. We're thinking of buying on-line but how do you know it'll be good if you can't see it for yourself?

Sherri: Thanks, Sherri. Keeping my fingers crossed that we see something we like somewhere.

Janie: Actually we need a furniture store. That would help.

  16. Christine: You're right and that's what Art keeps saying. He thinks we should wait until we see something that really fits our needs. Sigh.... OK....
    Slow meditation here....
