Memed by Meggie!

OK... you can come out from under the bed now, Peg...

Peggy of Musings of Meggie just tagged me with a meme. I can't take the stress of passing on awards or memes but I'll play along just because Peggy is part of my blogging family and you know how hard it is to say no to your family. :-)

"This meme is a simple one. Collect the book that you have most handy, turn to page 161, find the 5th complete sentence, and cite the sentence on your blog. Next (of course) is to pass it on to 5 others."

Here it is, drum roll:

Book (right on my desk next to me where Art left it for me to research): Lonely Planet Japan

5th sentence: "An Asian restaurant that's been on the block for years is Erawan, where spicy curries and green papaya salad are served in a setting reminiscent of an outdoor Thai cafe on some southern shore...except here, you get a glittering urban view from this top-floor dining venue."

I guess now everybody will know that we're (Art actually) is planning another trip to Japan. We're going to Japan again because it's the only place my mom is willing to go to. This isn't a problem at all because there's a WHOLE lot of Japan that we have not seen. My mom hasn't been to these places either so it'll be another adventure in spring. She says that at 80, her traveling days are over. We've told her that at 80 she needs to see as many of the amazing places there are in our world as she can.

If there's anybody else who'd like to pick up this meme, please, please do! It would make me and Peggy happy.

  2. Oh you will love how much Japan looks like Hawaii I would imagine. I know I wouldn't recognize any of the places I was at in the early 1950s. Your mom will surely love the places you get to see. She has been to Kamakura I am sure of that. Matsushima is nice if you like oysters. Gosh. Even Mt. Zao has some nice places with hot springs.

Thanks for visiting my blog Pick a Peck of Pixels and commenting on the Flat Ear squirrel sitting in the snow, eating a peanut.

  3. You don't stay home long enough to sleep on the mattresses enough to give them a depression.
Bon voyage! When are you coming here??

I know, this is not my blog, but here is the 5th verse of p. 161:
"And you shall not profane the holy things of the people of Israel, lest you die.'
(God speaking to Moses in the Torah)

  4. I love Dina's comment about your mattress! How true!!! I cannot believe you are going away again! I know you must love it, but I could never, never go away as much as you. I guess I live a very sheltered life. I will be very happy to hear all about your escapades!

  7. Kay, enjoy your trip to Japan. Have you ever bathed nude in the public baths and springs? That's something I would never do. Too embarassing. LOL.

  8. Okay, Kay, I will do this. It seems simple enough. As you, I too choose not to do this sort of thing. So, check out my page! :)

  10. Ok, YOURS has made me hungry! LOL That is a really beautiful portrait of Peggy.

My daughter is just dying to go to Japan. I tell her to study hard, work hard, save up, and you know, LOL. She's trying to learn the language meanwhile, and I'm jut hoping that when she finally gets there, she comes home again!

When we visited DC over the weekend we were able to drive under the cherry trees that were Japan's gift to America; the kids liked that story.

Have a wonderful and safe trip when you go!

  11. Cloudia: Thanks!

Linda: I've been falling asleep everytime I start reading, too.

Abe: We've been to Matsushima a couple of times and we've also been to Mt. Zao. We've also seen Kamakura a couple of times. We're going to be totally different this time. One of the places we're thinking of is Koyasan to visit all the Buddhist temples there.

Dina: That is such a perfect line! Wow! We're having a hard time traveling your way now. We seem to be locked into traveling to Chicago and the Far East for a while.

Joyce: I don't have to worry about getting a depression because I already have one. :-) Ah well. Art does love to travel.

Peggy: We'll be in Chicago in spring after Japan. I like seeing your photo on your Facebook and blog. :-D

Gigi: I did it once when I was on a college trip to Japan. I'm rather shy about doing it now but who knows what we'll be doing this time.

Dez: I'll stop by and see what you're up to.

Susan: Japan is really an amazing place to visit. BTW: I saw a news magazine (Was it 60 Minutes or was it History Detectives? Arrghhh.... I can't remember.) that said the cherry trees are not really the trees that Japan sent. Apparently the trees from Japan had bugs so they had to burn most of them. There's only a few planted someplace else that actually came from Japan. In an effort at diplomacy the American government kept the bug story quiet and planted other cherry trees instead. I don't know where those trees came from however. So now you know the rest of the story.

  13. OK, OK. So maybe I'll catch you in Chicago someday. I really have to make that trip to America to see the family one day.

  14. Cheryl: I sure will!

Dina: Since you'd be in California to visit your son and family, it would just be another hop to Hawaii before you head further to Australia. :-)
