Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

We finally got around to seeing Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince late this afternoon. We took my mom who didn't quite understand what was going on. I thought it dragged at times. We haven't been to see a movie in maybe a year so it surprised me that there was almost a half hour of commercials and previews before the movie started at the Pearl Highlands Theatre.

Now then... is it just me or does anybody else feel like Harry should have ended up with Hermoine? I thought so after reading the books. Even in the movie, there was more chemistry between Harry and Hermoine than between Hermoine and Ron. At least that's what I thought but then again, I'm just a muggle.

  1. Haven't seen this one....but have collected the series...my son gets scared whenever we attempt to play the dvd....waiting for him to grow up a little more.

  2. 'Just a muggle' made me laugh out loud!

I think we were allowed to believe in Harry-Hermione in the early books, just so we could be surprised at the twists and turns later on. Fiction's not allowed to be predictable anymore.

And, Ron certainly needed a happy-ever-after, after all his troubles. That's my guess anyhow.

  3. I saw it with my son and oldest grandson, and I too thought it slowed down too much about an hour in. But, we liked it. At least J.K. Rowling kept enough control that the movies are true to the books (at least as much as movies can be).

Movies based on Tuck Everlasting, Bridge to Terabithia, White Fang, and others are so different from the books that they hardly deserve the titles.

Just an opinion from another muggle.

  4. HA HA... Muggle... yes we are!! I too am a fan of Harry Potter. I've just started reading his books. But, I have seen all of his movies. I have loved them all... EXCEPT for this one. Yes! Harry should have ended up with Hermanie (sp?)! They DID have chemistry! I was very disappointed in this movie. It just dragged and dragged on. It was NOT as exciting as all the others. Hardly anything majical happened in this movie. Nothing new, except for the pairing off thing. My daughter says the books all rang true in the movies except for the last one.
    What a disappointment.

  5. We saw this film a few weeks ago and also felt that it just never really got going. But the book's a bit like that too, I think, almost as if the last two books tell just the one story that had to be divided up for the publisher's sake.

  6. After watching the first 20 minutes of the first HP movie, I have no urge to watch the others or to read the books.

I guess this type of fiction is just not my cup of tea.

  7. I'm not Harry follower. I tried reading the first book but never finished it. I have seen several movies on cd, and listened to one book on tape on a road trip. I think eventually I'm like to do a home film fest of all of the HP movies, just to catch up and maintain my cultural literacy :)

  8. I seldom see movies unless or until I make a mistake on the television and land on something that is interesting and watch it.

Thanks for visiting my Pick a Peck of Pixels and commenting on Baby Kitty.

  9. Kay, I agree I thought Harry would end up with Hermione too! If you had to rate all the HP movies this one would get failing marks from John and I. Very disappointing!

  11. I've heard this movie is difficult to follow unless you're a Harry Potter fan.

  12. All those advertisements are the norm now Kay. We try to miss most of them by turning up early enough in time for the previews but late enough that we miss all the advertisements. We also try to go at a quiet time and can be assured of a decent seat rather than go when all the tickets have been sold out. Hermoine and Ron? Now that's interesting, I wonder who they will pair Harry up with?

  13. I think Ron and Hermionie are nice together. Sure it's not as hot as Harry and Hermionie but they will probably stay together longer....what?
Kay I tagged you for a meme, come on over and check it out. I'm hiding under the bed.

  14. Haven't seen the movie, but devoured all the books. I like the pairings Rowling came up with. It makes sense to me.

  15. Ummmmm...haven't seen this one, actually haven't seen any Harry Potter movies. I like your review though.

    So, you're a 'muggle', huh?

    What's a muggle?

  16. Leona: A muggle is a Non-wizard. :-)

It's really interesting to see other friends' opinions on the wizard pairings.

  18. I like all the Harry Potter's a lot! I think that in the book Ron & Hermione had more chemistry than they did in the movie. But I still like that they ended up together! :)

  19. I totally agree Kay. I wasn't sure about that either but it is what it is. I thought this movie was a little slow too and I plan on re-reading the next one before the movie is out because I was a bit lost on this one. It had been so long since I read the books.
