Tomorrow begins a month of family and parties that we have been anticipating for a long time. It seemed like tomorrow was a long way off but suddenly it's here!
It begins with Tiffany, her husband Ed and our precious dumpling, KC arriving from Illinois in early afternoon. In the evening I am having a potluck here with several elementary and high school friends. We will all be celebrating our 60th birthday together. Am I really going to be 60 in a few days? 40 wasn't so much a milestone, 50 went by without too much to-do but 60 feels important. I feel like I'm truly leaving girlhood behind. I'm a grown-up now! Maybe. I've dug up my high school yearbooks so we can all look at them again. I've reread many end-of-year comments friends wrote in my yearbooks and it sounds like they were writing to somebody else. Who was I back then anyway?
I didn't mean to have the party on the same day that Tif and her family arrives but there wasn't a choice. This was the day all the childhood buddies could make.
On Tuesday, our son Jon and his Sarah will arrive and next Saturday will be another potluck with all my cousins, aunts and uncle on my mother's side. The Saturday after that will be a potluck with Art's relatives.
In between all that is a FULL schedule of meeting other friends and relatives to show off our children and grandchild. I know it will all fly by so I'm hoping to savor this special time as much as I can. Please forgive me if I'm not able to visit you all very much in the coming days.
It'll all be over much too soon.
Sounds like the busyness will be fun busy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is the best anyone could ask for, Kay. Enjoy your family all together!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the 60s. It's not so bad, it fact, it's a great age in life.
enjoy your family, we'll still be here when you return. 60 is grownup to be sure...30 was my hardest age to turn next year i'll be 70 and that is ancient. older than dirt. lol!
ReplyDeleteBirthdays are hell but you get used to it. Sixty isn't that bad. And, seventy isn't either. Eighty, well it will give me some second thoughts about my ball of string. And I don't think I could ever cope with Ninety. I mean Ninety and one hundred are hanging by a thread. The ball of string ran out. You don't have enough time left to rewind the string on the ball and its scattered helter skelter. Thirty was my nemesis. I couldn't get over it. I moaned and groaned about getting old for six months. My wife said I was terrible.
ReplyDeleteBut sixty. That's the slip stream of life. You have been there and done all that and now you are headed for health, wealth and happiness. Sleep in, sleep out, sleep around -- who knows?
Just enjoy. Your ball of string looks new.

ReplyDeleteHaving the kids and sweet KC coming makes my going to Maui that much more difficult! After waiting so long for them to come, I can't believe I'm going to miss them!!! Thank goodness I will have my computer (it even has a built in webcam!)and cell phone.
ReplyDeleteGive everyone BIG hugs and kisses from their Aunty okay?

ReplyDeleteWell, Kay, I've been catching up with your busy life. Loved the story of finding your old house owner, and all of the connections that revealed.
ReplyDeleteI know you are excited for your family's visit, and everything else you have going. Our kids return next Monday for a two week visit, and we're trying to figure out how to get everything in the schedule!
60? What a young thing you are! And Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to you Kay! When is your actually birthday? I'll be 50 on Thursday. Enjoy all your visits and company!
ReplyDeleteYes busy but oh so fabulous seeing all your family and friends. Have a fantastic time Kay. I think turning 60 is pretty painless. I turned 59 back in the beginning of July and when I was asked if I was 60 I said no, I had another year to go but that Gregg told me is was quite painless ;)
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU everybody! I'm getting all keyed up now. We just went to pick up the cake and Tif and her family will be touching down in another hour or so. My classmates will be showing up in another 4 hours. Arrrghhhh!
ReplyDeleteSherri: My birthday is on July 27th, exactly 2 weeks after Art's.
Wow you are really going to be busy, busy. Have fun and happy 60th... Carla
ReplyDeleteEnjoy these precious days with your little dumpling granddaughter and your son and daughter, Kay. And of course, Happy Birthday!
