Master Bedroom Project

Our daughter and her family and our son and his girlfriend will be arriving in a couple of weeks. Therefore, we took a walk around the house noting the things we needed to do to be ready. We were mostly concerned with making sure the house was safe for 2 year old KC who will probably find any errant nail we may have dropped somewhere.

We have furniture in our 2 guestrooms that serve as my office and Art's. However, we don't have much in our master bedroom except for construction materials. (These photos were taken AFTER we put away most of the stuff.) The latex bed we ordered will arrive on Friday so we needed to clear a space for it. Then we looked around the room to see what kind of bedroom furniture we should look for.

I don't think I can get it on Craigslist. Our son says we should get something we really like that matches in our master bedroom for once instead of buying it second hand. Once we get the master bedroom furniture (ummm...plus the 2 nightstands for Art's office) I think it will feel like our move to Hawaii from Illinois will be complete.

We won't need to get another thing.

I think. I hope.

  1. Your bedroom seems so spacious. Decorating it will be fun. My favorite furniture store is INSPIRATIONS in Pearlridge. I got a 3 piece leather set for $1995 -- sofa, loveseat, and chair. Very durable.

  2. Let me just say that I do thoroughly enjoy stopping here and seeing and reading what you guys are up to next. It is special to me because I get to see other people working and the things they do. And also, Kay, thank you for your comments when you stop at my blogs.

I have noticed you mention Craig's List several times in your posts and wonder if you have had any regrets buying that way?

  5. how fun to see your living quarters take shape and become your retirement home. I bought my first bedroom set new when we retired here. After many years of having used and make do furniture and it was so fun. We decorated in southwestern decor-have fun shopping. I'm sure you'll find something else to buy later...lol!

  10. Hi everybody... I just wanted to quickly answer Abe's question about Craigslist.

To be totally truthful, we've almost ALWAYS brought home things and found out we needed to do more work on the item than we thought. The bed required about $100 more worth of stripper, cleaner and sealers to get it looking nice not to mention the support structure below that Art had to make.

Other furniture pieces had a tiny something broken or had holes, etc. However, we had so many things that we needed that this was the more cost effective way to get the house furnished. Nobody notices the things we know are there anyway.

So do we have any regrets? No, not yet and we've met some really nice people this way, too. This whole thing is like treasure hunting, I guess.... or maybe like gambling. You just don't know when you're going to strike gold.

  11. You are nearing the finish line! And what a good reason to push toward the goal. Family in the house!

  12. I imagine you are really looking forward to having your family there; enjoy every moment.

As for the bedroom, you just have to look until you find something that appeals to you--new or used. You just need a few pieces now that you have a frame.

  13. your bedroom, in fact the house looks very spacious. I agree with Jo, new or used, as long as you love it. You're so conscientious about toddler safety, I'm the same...sharp corners, that sort of thing.
