But first, breakfast at Ken's House of Pancakes. KC felt she should have her own menu to read.

One of our stops was the Thurston Lava Tube.

It was fun to see the Halemaumau crater. We could see gases billowing from the crater.

Devastation Trail was our last stop where we saw the destruction from the 1959 eruption.

We left Jon and Sarah to their camping and we returned to Oahu last night. This morning at dawn, we said goodbye to Tif's husband, Ed who is returning home to go back to work while Tif and KC continue their visit with us. Jon and Sarah will join us again tomorrow evening and we'll get to hear about their adventures.
We visited Volcanoes Nat'l Park several years ago and were intrigued to see red, hot lava flowing from Kilauea Volcano. What an amazing place.
ReplyDelete(What did KC choose after reading her menu??)
looks interesting and fun to have all your family around. I bet they are enjoying their trips to Hawaii.
ReplyDeleteWow. I am impressed with this place. It is amazing. Looks like the Moon.
ReplyDeleteKay, my parents have been to the volcano nat'l park twice and they always say it was so interesting. Maybe someday I'll get to see it. Sounds like you all are having a wonderful, wonderful visit!
ReplyDeleteYou are having days to treasure. We'll always be here when ever you return!
ReplyDeleteLove to all of your family, keep having a fantastic time!
thanks for the interesting volcano photos. So KC can read then? (-:
ReplyDeleteWow, such cool (I mean, hot) places!
ReplyDeleteKC with the menu is precious! It's almost as tall as she is.
Keep having fun. :)
Love to the kids from Auntie Dina.
What a lovely birthday you had. It's mine tomorrow, but it's going to be a pretty quiet day. Number One Son is visiting at the moment, but has to leave at lunchtime and apart from that we've got nothing planned.
ReplyDeleteThe menu photo is PRICELESS! And the landscapes you visited look amazing. We're hoping to go camping too, this week or sometime. I hope Ed gets home safely and doesn't miss the fun *too* much!
ReplyDeleteTHAT's where you've gotten to! What fun!
ReplyDeleteThe Apollo astronauts did train on Mauna Kea in a place now known as Apollo Valley. I love being from the Big Island and living in Oahu....Nice place to visit.
Aloha, Kay

Wow! My head is spinning. So much happening, and so many folks to share it with.
ReplyDeleteWe've been non-stop here too. Today, Monday, we are at home and slowing down. Mounds of laundry have been done and the packing up has begun. Departure time for the kids back to Colorado is very early tomorrow morning.
