Craigslist Buy in Kailua

There's this weird thing about the Windward side of the island. Whenever you go there you feel like you're going to the other side of the rainbow into another dimension. The Windward side is the wetter more lush side of the island. I live on the Leeward side about 20 miles away. It's dryer and hotter. Sigh... However, all my friends and relatives live on the Leeward side. It's rather a strange thing about Oahu.

You go through this long tunnel that's cut into the mountain and when you come out, it's like you're in another world.

I think it's the prettier side of the island. I hope nobody on the Leeward side gets mad at me for saying this.

I was actually taking a quick look on Craigslist this morning to see if they had some taller nightstands. Instead, a 6 feet x 4 feet magnetic whiteboard caught my eye. They were asking only $45.00 but it was in Kailua... the other side of the world. Art, always kind to limping people said he would take me to look at it.

When I saw the white board, I was disappointed. It was bent and dirty even though they advertised it as hardly used. However, they were right that magnetic whiteboards are expensive. I'd looked for one a long time ago and large boards cost several hundred dollars. Art looked at it and said I should give it a try.

I must say, I'm really pleased. It cleaned up beautifully after Art straightened it and it filled up the huge blank wall. I can now play with it all I like adding my magnet collection from our travels and moving around our family photos. It's been a happy Monday!

  1. I love that idea--now I need a whiteboard! LOL Our poor refrigerator is covered with things, and I hate it. This is much better, and a perfect place for photos.

We live on the windward side of our island; thatched roofs here often have rocks tied on to them to keep them from blowing away. Everyone tells us the west is the most beautiful part, but the rain keeps us from seeing much of it! LOL

By the way, would it be possible to clone Art for the rest of us? And how's your foot these days?

  2. What a clever idea. I've only thought of whiteboards in the context of school, but how clever to use one for an evolving display.

  4. A house full of interesting actions......good buy ,KAY...and you two managed a perfect placement for it...that tunnel must be a long one to take you to another world....your island looks beautiful whether be this side or that side.

  5. I never knew that whiteboards could be so huge! Ashton would love one of those, especially when she was younger and played "school" with her cousins. I would love one to use just as you have and what a great idea for displaying your photos! And thanks for explaining "windward and leeward", very interesting!

  6. Really pretty Kay and so functional.
I need one like that or something similar and such a perfect place to put it!
    Love it!

  7. Thank YOU for the laugh this morning!! I LOVE that photo of Art. He looks like Eeyore and I can almost hear him saying "OH GOD! ANOTHER project!"
That photo is priceless. I must admit though, you are extremely creative Kay. I love the finished product; what a great idea!

  8. You certainly find all kinds of cool bargains on Craig's List. What a bargain for you! Your home is really looking nice as the days go by. Congrats!

  9. Great artistic shot of Art.

I was afraid you need the big board for your To Do list. :)

  10. I haven't bought anything off of Craig's List but I have sold about 18 things on there. It is great!

  11. I think if I lived on the leeward side I would make a point of eating at least once each week on the windward side.

Art looks like the driven man. I am sure you don't drive him. I mean he is just driven to make your life easier.

  12. Lookin good! All those white walls won't be so white by the time we're there. :) Dad is great, esp driving you to Kailua. Did you eat there? Eating there once a week is a great idea.

  14. The white board looks great. Good idea, and great find, after fixing. Good old Art.
We were in Hawaii a long time ago, on several islands. I remember on the big iskand, seeing cactus on one side and jungle on the other.

  15. Susan: I'd love to have a cloned Art because we've got enough work for 10 Arts over here.

My foot is progressing... slowly. Thanks for asking.

Amanda: I'm really loving this magnetic whiteboard, I must say.

Lin: I don't know if all teachers have whiteboards but I do have three. :-)

Kavita: Thanks, Kavita. Actually many a tourist might skip Oahu because it's got Honolulu on it which is a concrete jungle.

Cheryl: I love the whiteboard because I can change pictures whenever I want and not worry about framing them. I don't have enough horizontal spaces to display framed photos.

Peggy: It really fit that space perfectly. I'm so happy.

Nancy: You're absolutely RIGHT! That's exactly what Art was thinking.

Gigi: It's funny how you can find something out of the blue when you weren't looking for it.

Dina: That board wouldn't be enough for all the "To Do's" that Art has.

Sherri: Congratulaions! That's terrific. I've never sold anything on Craig's. I only buy. :-)

Abe: I told Art what you said and he chuckled. Driven, eh?

Tif: No, we didn't eat there. You have a nice daddy, Tif.

Jean: Thanks, Jean. We're really pleased and so far everybody has liked it.

Linda: That's very true of the Big Island also but in a different way. We go through a tunnel to come to the other side.

  17. Last week I was happy because I really enjoyed the Windward side of the island more than the Leeward Side. The Windward Side is lush and cooler and seems more like traditional Hawaii than the drier hotter Leeward Side.
